so i thought.. if you go over your overdraft limit, but you bought it back in line on the same day then you are safe..
basically on monday morning i had 2 direct debits that went out.. it did not show me as being over my limit, but i knew i had a couple of card payments that hadn't showed up monday that would take me over my limit.. so i went to the bank and deposited some..
then i come online today and find out they are charging me £70(2x35) for unauthorised payments.. and found out that they had added the card payments onto yesterdays date on the statement today.

at no point does my account show me as being over my limit..

should i have been charged here?

Get your accountant to move a slug of your tennis winnings into your current account and that should stop it happening again.

A fee we charge when a card transaction, cheque(whether guaranteed or not), standing order, direct debit or other instruction that we pay results in or increases an unarranged overdraft. (See notes 5 and 6)

found this

as stated, it did not cause me to go into an unauthorised overdraft(hence they never charged me an unauthorised overdraft fee)

I think they'll argue that there's a cut off point of lunchtime(ish) for cash deposited to be credited against withdrawls for the same day

I got the same letter today from the halifax. Charge of £35 as i paid £150 into the bank on Friday afternoon for a DD i knew was coming off that day. Thought it was ok because money was in the same day as the DD was due. Phoned the bestards tonight but just got a wee smarmy priick at the end of the phone reading out a standard answer. Sorry Sir i cannot refund your charge as we paid the DD in the morning so the funds need to be in your account the night before, blah, blah, blah. Is there anything else i can help you with Sir? Yes feck off ya thick**t and get a real job instead of call centre minimum wage. At least i now feel that i got something for my £35. Robbing**ts.

the only thing i can find that i'll argue is that little quote from their t and c's i copied.
my statement doesnt show me over my limit
Report SNOOCH November 10, 2009 9:02 PM GMT
my statement is the same, not over limit. It was the fact they paid the DD when they were not enough funds at that time so the computer auto charges you.

Just got off the phone to a gentleman, i hyped myself up, ready to have a big moan and he goes "Seeing as we havent cancelled any charges for you in the past, I can actually cancel both of these ones as a gesture of goodwill today" (or words to that effect)

then of course asked if i wanted the ultimate reward account
then asked if i wanted a credit card
Report Andy Murray November 11, 2009 8:03 AM GMT
he also said they process direct debits before credits, ie.. if i get paid on the 7th, that will be processed after my direct debits have been taken on the 7th
