Adults still smoking in front of children
Posted Tue Oct 27, 2009 12:44pm AEDT

The anti-smoking lobby group QUIT is launching a new campaign targeting smoking around children.

The executive director of QUIT, Fiona Sharkey says new research by the Cancer Council of Victoria shows that more than four in ten adult smokers are still smoking in front children.

Ms Sharkey says passive smoke is harmful to children's health and also affects their attitudes towards smoking.

"We also know that smoking around children serves to normalise smoking and kids look to their parents and say, well that must be pretty normal to smoke," she said.

"We know the biggest predictor of whether a child takes up smoking is whether its parent does."

Does anyone here want to admit to smoking in front of a child????

AND IT GETS WORSE THE MORE I THINK ABOUT IT

DO YOU SMOKERS ACTUALY SMOKE IN FRONT OF PETS???????

Now that it's impossible to smoke anywhere in public, at work, on public transport, in bars and clubs or even soon on the street.

That means that a lot of babies, children and household pets are probably going to be subjected to a hell of a lot more of fag smoking and lung destroying and illness provoking smoke.

None of these kids, babies and fluffy animals asked to be brought into these houses of torture and injury and cancer and disease against healthy living.

Children and animals will need to be monitored more closely to see if this form of child abuse of inflicting damage to health is becoming worrying or serious enough that the kids and the animals need to be removed to smoke-free safe houses.

Surely all-parents that smoke at home in front of their kids knowing the risks are evil, lazy, weak, selfish uncaring child abusers who couldn't give a s hit that maybe they are setting a bad example and leading their kids to death in showing them smoking is good, mummy and daddy are doing it?

Should all babies be adopted at birth from smokers?

Should the RSPCA protect pussy cats and doggies lungs too?

I THINK WE NEED TO BAN SMOKING - PERIOD.

Yeah, those ba$tards forcing you to breath toxic smoke into the lungs of your child. If only they had thought of this consequence.

more smokers are staying in now with a few cans rather than going to the pub, so it's obvious that more smoking is going on in the home. i think the smoking ban has backfired

Obese kids who are fed high sugar diets by their parents are at far greater risk of health problems than they would be by passive smoking.

EMR -I suppose if you start of with the presumption that smokers are selfish its a hard question as to who they shoudl infect with smoke ,strangers in a pub or their own kids at home. I suppose some are selfish enough to not step into the garden or yard when at home and in the company of theri own kids but tbh if that is the case the kids have more to worry about than a bit of smoke

I don't have kids but i have smoked in front of children. these fecking nazi's want the government to regulate every aspect of our lives for our own benefit. Feck 'em. the government should be encouraging smoking as a way of reducing pension payouts and increasing tax take.

should have been left to the pubs to decide if they wanted a smoking ban in their pubs

Given the low parenting skills of a lot of the population im surprised they didnt think of this, LF, after all they have encouraged the feckless quite a lot.

err I think there is also no law banning me from smoking in a designated area-if you choose to bring your kids into that area then why should I feel guilty.

I'm asking it now:

Do YOU smoke in doors in front of children
By:
madsimon
When: 09 Nov 09 17:47
fouraces--i dont expect smokers to not smoke in outside areas even if my kids are there. ITs enclosed spaces where smokers ought to look at themselves if they smoke and others are present especialy kids
By:
fouraces
When: 09 Nov 09 17:49
Yes I will smoke indoors in front of kids.

Me and my wife both smoke and have no desire to have kids- if you visit and bring your kids you will know I smoke-if you choose to stay or leave that is your perogative.

Non smokers will be the one's laughing when all the smokers catch lung cancer and die a premature death.

I've heard the latter stages of lung cancer are agony.

Good luck with that.

well fouraces -you are a lot more likely to die of smoking related dieasers than car driving ones--As I said though I have no objection to smokers msmoking outside only inside and with compnay -so i am perfectly willing to have cars being banned from being driven inside to show fairness .

how many people die or need hospital treatment from smoking related diseases everyday compared to people dieing or needing hospital treatment from careless motorists causing accidents everyday
