I've been waiting 3 months now and the amount is pretty substantial. Any hardship routes I could follow?

Oh my. You can speak to a supervisor who says they will put it through as urgent.

I waited about 10 weeks or so.
Report a bitofinterest November 8, 2009 3:03 PM GMT
i wouldn't say no to one
Report Mully November 8, 2009 3:04 PM GMT
Will give them a call in the morning. I'm told it's a new security system in Bristol causing the hold up.
Report Slobodan Milosevic November 8, 2009 3:05 PM GMT
I believe they implemented an new computer system that came into play about 2/3 months ago.

During the weeks running up to the handover they processed no applications so there is a backlog, a hefty one.
Report punterfleecer November 8, 2009 3:06 PM GMT
yea thats true about the new computer system
Report Pokermonster November 8, 2009 3:06 PM GMT
I was incredibly fortunate.

Submitted my return late in October and have already received my repayment.

NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM ALERT FFS!! DONT PANIC!
Report punterfleecer November 8, 2009 3:07 PM GMT
the new system is a system that holds all your details in one "folder"

in the past all details were scattered in every office

you have to bear in mind that, that is a company with 80,000 staff dealing with 60 million people +

don't expect efficiency from that company since the government was happy to sack 25,000 staff in the past 5 years

I want to pay them some money to wind up an estate. Four months later, and despite three unanswered reminders, I have heard precisely nothing.
Report Rum Tiddle November 8, 2009 5:59 PM GMT
I had a refund for £100 a few weeks back. They shouldn't have taken it in the first place. Robbing bar stewards.
Report Crisp77 November 8, 2009 6:37 PM GMT
If you get your agent to file it online you normally get the refund within a week. If not ask your agent to go online and request the refund immediately. If you haven't got an agent...unlucky.

the problem im finding is everytime i ring them they say sorry its not showing on ur account yet it can take upto 6 wks if it hasnt been seen to then send us another copy i had this 4 times so far
Report Crisp77 November 8, 2009 6:54 PM GMT
if only - is this off a filed tax return? Or do you not fall under self assessment?

If it is a tax return then by sending it in April they should have processed it by now. I assume it was done by paper because if you accountant would have done it online the refund would be rapid.

Uncanny-lunchtime post and a letter arrives from Edinburgh...calculation and refund to bank in a few days. Yippee!

______________

if they owe you ,you have to wait years .

if you owe them ,you get a sharp reminder of possible court action within days.

theys the rules

paye refunds are a few weeks, unless it is a small amount nd then it is adjusted in next years tax code.

S/A is different game. originaly hmrc expected a large uptake of electronic filing. This came in much too low as no one expected the tactical protest.

the tactical move is to ALWAY submit in paper and not electronic. This assumes that if HMRC will be too swamped to scrutinise you.
Report Coachbuster November 10, 2009 12:30 AM GMT
They p1ss me off, always trying to get out of paying ,making you beg for whats rightfully yours.

Trying to bamboozle you with words which exist only in law books.

I had to send 6 letters over 2 years to get 200 notes of them one year.

Passing the buck between tax districts, various tax codes blah blah

Its obvious they owed me in the first place or they wouldnt have settled .
Report Coachbuster November 10, 2009 12:31 AM GMT
Thank god i dont have to put up with that sh1t anymore
Report Coachbuster November 10, 2009 12:33 AM GMT
Anyway ,thats my moan for the day .
