A hell you don't notice, probably isn't all that bad!

We do notice it, we're just used to the pain. Desensitisation.
If you want to know what Nazi Germany was like, I suggest the novels of Erich Maria Remarque. |

Of course, some people are comfortable in today's Britain, just as some were comfortable in 1930's Germany. The qualities required for survival in both were in some ways similar, in others different.
i am uncomfortable in today's Britain, which I see as degenerating throughout my lifetime. Is that objective? Hard to know. There was a lot of violence in the 50s and 60s with youth gangs. I wouldn't have lasted 5 mins in Nazi Germany, due to my bad attitude toward authority. |

england would be full of germans speaking the germanic language. oh wait, that's exactly the conditions before and after the war. plus ca change

They did not, however, suffer from the same ills that we do now. Junk food, poor physical and mental health, the class system, feral youth whose minds have been addled by drugs, the list is endless.
Global warming? Not a problem if the Nazi's ruled the world. The Govt wouldn't worry about what big business thought. If they were out of line, off to the camps and get some new ones in! OK moon Light, let's rip the above BS apart, shall we? *You think that people in the 1930's did not suffer poor physical and mental health? Life expectancy was considerably lower than now, and lower still in 1930's Germany, There was limited care (if any) for those with mental problems, and nothing like the access now enjoyed by virtually everybody to health care. *Junk food. There wasn't any at the time. What's to say it still wouldn't have been developed i the intervening years? *No class system? Hardly. Given that our own Royal family is mostly German, and there were no shortage of Schlossen with incumbent Barons. Where do get the no class system idea. Any victorious Germans would have knighted themselves and become nobility, just as in most of the wars throughout history. *No feral Youth? Possibly the stupidest of your assertions. Where do you think they did their initial recruiting, in the wake of a depression? There was, and at all times in all countries, has been plenty of "Feral" population. It's to do with poverty. *No big business The Nazis worked hand in hand with big business, as governments do now. Big business provides funding, and would still have been vital to the Germans as it was in the 30's, just think about all the German companies that did well from the war. and, "off to the camps" is the one biggest reason it's a good thing they didn't win. hth. |

By:
2smiggy, why don't you try reading a book? Putting aside the fact that the nazi criminals took over an advanced nation state by murder, terror and concentration camps, they were also utterly incompetent.
Germany was an economic disaster area by October 1935, with massive discontent over food prices and and shortages. The heil hitler salute was no longer seen in Berlin, even among zealots. If the entire state had not been locked down by terror there would have been an attempt at counter revolution. Morale was restored by invading the Rhineland and we know the rest. |

in fairness, germany in 1936/37 was very well run. until hitler went mad the same sort of country would not be too bad IMO ABSOLUTE and total rubbish. You think 1934 would have been OK, with the state murdering people by the hundred, burning books, ostracising communities for no reason? You think hitler went suddenly mad in 1936? FFS. |

By:
Just spotted your 12.35 post, LF.
Quite right. I'm going to look at the horses and football instead now. |
|
By:
I can't pretend to be neutral and cool about these idiots. Some of the absolute horse** you see on here can only be by neo nazis trolls or complete fcukwits. I often find it hard to tell the difference.

they had employment, good state run infrastructure, and low crime. if you were happy to follow government policys ( pre war before you start with bull about being anti jewish etc) then it sounds ok to me.
|
|
By:
My sentiments exactly, ghostdog.
I've been known to get a bit annoyed by them myself from time to time. I completely fail to understand why they try to idolise hitler and his gang. Perhaps its the same reasoning which makes them buy the loudest fireworks and have pitbulls/staffys. I have no time for thick and aggressive people. |

By:
Smiggy.
They killed everyone who argued, or was 'intelligensia' or was in opposition. The rest is bull. |

No, It wasn't ok. See my first post.

By:
smiggy, you are either an Adolf fan or seriously thick. Either way, sort yourself out.
Everyone who disagreed was in a camp within weeks. The first to be beaten to death were the social democrats, not the communists. |
|
By:
all against the killing part in fairness. what they did is terrible.
but the way society is going at present there must be some better way of running everything. i doubt the louts with pit bulls and fire works would have beenn tolereated back then. |
|
By:
i am neither. you have your opinions , i have mine, which i suppose makes you thick.
|
|
By:
but neither would gays, black, jews, slavs, feminists, communists, democrats, budhists.... the list goes on
|
|
By:
They were more than tolerated, they did the beating the death. They were the nazi SA street thugs, later the SS. They robbed people blind and did under the pretext of order.
I suggest you read some history. |
|
By:
OK smiggy, except that your opinions are demonstratably b0llocks by any historical evidence. But don't let that put you off. Have a nice day.

forget the nazi part,
they had high employment, alot of not that well paid through state run jobs. better than paying out huge dole money for people to do nothing. also profits on companies was tightly controlled, with the state taking money back and reinvesting back into the country. the likes of dell have now just decided to move out of ireland, taking 3000 jobs with them and moving to poland. i would just like a society with more in employment, stricter policeing, and to get rid of areas of the country which have turned into no go areas because because of lack of employment and crime. until about 10 years ago we never locked our doors at night and would often leave cars keys in the car overnight. now with** around the country people are living in fear, especially in rural areas. these** when caught are often out within months , if even jailed and back out robbing at night. |

You're right, there are awful problems in today's society, and many aspects of day to day living. The solution to these problems does not, however, lie with 1930's or Nazi Germany. The problems then were mostly, though not all, different. Life then was NOT good. |
|
By:
OK STUDYFORM, let's rip your BS apart, shall we?
"*You think that people in the 1930's did not suffer poor physical and mental health? I did not say that Life expectancy was considerably lower than now, and lower still in 1930's Germany, There was limited care (if any) for those with mental problems, and nothing like the access now enjoyed by virtually everybody to health care." Ineffective health care, due to the omnipresent junk food. Health improvements since 1930 are nearly all due to smoke control. The medical system exists to line the pockets of the pharmaceutical shareholders. "*Junk food. There wasn't any at the time. What's to say it still wouldn't have been developed i the intervening years?" Hitler was a vegan health fanatic, had them all running thru the forest in their birthday suits. He wouldn't have been impressed by junk food. "*No class system? Hardly. Given that our own Royal family is mostly German, and there were no shortage of Schlossen with incumbent Barons. Where do get the no class system idea. Any victorious Germans would have knighted themselves and become nobility, just as in most of the wars throughout history." 'Der Deutschen Volk ist ein Volk'. Hitler was dedicated to eradication of the class system, which was the basic concept of National Socialism. He hated the Junker for their failure to win WW1. During the war he did a deal with them for convenience sake. If he had won, there would have been another Night of the Long Knives, and the Junker would have had it. Probably. Germany today has much less of a class system than the rest of Europe, as everybody knows but you. "*No feral Youth?Again, I did not say that. I asserted it was one of the ills of our times, not that Nazi Germany was free of it Possibly the stupidest of your assertions. Where do you think they did their initial recruiting, in the wake of a depression? The Nazis put them in uniform and set them to work bullying people. this was a non-optimum solution to the problem, but it did de-feralise 'em There was, and at all times in all countries, has been plenty of "Feral" population. It's to do with poverty." Highly respectable people in poor countries have much less access to cash and material goods then the most brutal and feral people in Britain. So it's not to do with poverty. I don't pretend to have a complete explanation of it. It is a horrible and baffling situation, which decades of temporary material progress have made worse rather than better. "*No big business I never said this either. Do you ever read what people actually wrote? The Nazis worked hand in hand with big business, as governments do now. Big business provides funding, and would still have been vital to the Germans as it was in the 30's, just think about all the German companies that did well from the war." The apparatus of Nazi Terror meant that the balance of power between big business and the political elite was different than it is in Korrupt Britannia. If the business leaders were out of line, they could have been replaced. In Britain, they own the politicians. "and, "off to the camps" is the one biggest reason it's a good thing they didn't win." Couldn't agree more! Esp as I would have been in the camps, and you would have been in one of the black uniforms. You stereotype people and then rant dementedly at the stereotype, without paying attention to what people actually said. You'd have made a great SS man. Officer potential! |

You're right, there are awful problems in today's society, and many aspects of day to day living. The solution to these problems does not, however, lie with 1930's or Nazi Germany.
The problems then were mostly, though not all, different. Life then was NOT good. Weirdly, I agree completely with this, which would not surprise you if had ever read anything I'd actually said. |
|
By:
Oh and btw, they wouldn't have had me in the SS either.

Horse Racing would be in a far healthier condition. They certainly wouldn't put up with the Morning Line in it's present state.

By:
They did not, however, suffer from the same ills that we do now.
Hmm.. I should have said that they did not suffer to the same degree from the ills that we do now, and did act to ameliorate them, whereas in our time they appear to be deteriorating, often exacerbated by public policy. In fairness, our Govt is trying to do something about these things too, but ineffectively due to their financial dependence on big biz, which has a crippling effect on their ability to diagnose causes, esp junk food and booze. |

how would uk have turned out if germany had won the war and taken over
I think it is fair to say that we would not have some of the troubles we have today. On the other hand ,we would have troubles of a different kind. If you ask me better never to have fought the WW1. Then there would never have been a WW2. |

Britain did lose the war and we were conquered by the US, and are being remade in their ghastly image. Is it worse than the concentration camps? Arguable. Without doubt one of the most pathetic things ever written on the forum & that really is saying something ! |
