these are semi-privatised companies that make huge profits, but don't pump anything back because they are a virtual monpoly. Nothing to do with lack of money, but a lack of legislation

4 things i've noticed about far too many whinging pommes....
1. they moan about paying too much tax 2. they moan about public services 3. they moan and moan and moan 4. they moan.

Why don't they get the bus drivers currently ferrying everyone around to drive the trains.
Train driving=Turn knob on and off. Bus driving.= actually responding to road conditions and driving

Ill informed you are speedypro. Train driving is not just about turning a knob on and off. Train drivers have an extensive rule book that they must comply with.I assume you did know that there are rules and regulations concerning signals, points, indicators etc that they need to understand and obey.

Splicer, I think they got double time for Sundays and had plenty of staff booked up but then they changed the rates to ordinary day rate and as it was voluntary overtime everyone stayed home and left it to the managers.

well that is exactly the point. it is management's problem. if they changed the rates, they should have a plan B, not just cancel the services on which people rely

about three hundred quid a month to get from biggleswade to london. if commuting 5 days a week, that is about 7.50 each journey, not bad. and the quick train takes less than 30 mins, right to king's cross .
bargain imo and v.reliable. packed with people though.

300 is cheap imo. to drive to center of london and back 20 times a month is about 2000 miles? What is that in petrol? say 30mpg - approx 60 gallons which is about £250. plus the congestion charge - another £100/month, or is it more. plus wear and tear, road tax, insurance, MOT etc. oh and it would take at least 2hrs each way stuck in traffic. If you get the early trains you always get a seat, you might even be able to do some work on the train, eat your breakfast, read a book, do the crossword, look out the window at the understated bedfordshire and hertfordshire countryside.
trains are fkin brilliant imo.

I can see Biggleswade is 46 miles from the centre of London, and it costs you £300 a month to commute there and back 5 times a week.
Glasgow to Edinburgh is 47 miles, £8 return, would cost you £160 a month in train fares
£300 and £160 is a large difference, not to mention you're in the London area which has loads of people, train company must be making a killing down there
Easy to get a seat on the glasgow to edinburgh train first thing in the morning

i think commuters must subsidise the rest of the services eg. day time when no one is on the train, students and old people with saver cards, and all those on the late night p.isss pot express trains on fri/sat cos none of them buy a ticket. But worth it when you take into account how much more money you earn in london.
then they wouldn't make so much profit though.i think commuters must subsidise the rest of the services eg. day time when no one is on the train, students and old people with saver cards, and all those on the late night p.isss pot express trains on f
As a matter of interest, how much do you think a train driver earns, including overtime,a year? And what about signalmen - how much do you think they earn?

posit4th....well i suppose if the job has a high salary then £300 is affordable
but I would say £300 a month is a lot of money for the average salary, and especially for people who are on minimum wage
