IMO, the shared graphics has set itself to use 512mb ram leaving 2gb.
I'm assuming you have windows XP - it didn't give correct readout on memory reading until service pack 3 from memory.
You may be able to adjust the memory used by the onboard chipset in the bios, or it may be configured automatically by windows depending on installed memory.
TBH, you won't notice any difference in speed on a 5 yr old laptop running XP between 2gb and 2.5gb (minus amount used by gfx chipset).
The only issue you may have, is it may not run in dual memory configuration (assuming it had that capability) as I'm sure they need to be installed in matched pairs for that to work, so depending on what apps you are running, you may not notice a huge difference in speed.
