Travelling for Gold Cup day this year from the North and wondered what people would advise in terms of suggestions of places to stay outside Cheltenham and travelling in on the day.
Sam. If it was me i would try Birmingham i know the trains will be packed but they are plenty of them and you are only on for 50 mins. Where ever you stay enjoy.

The trains leave BIRMINGHAM NEW STREET at 12 minutes and 30 minutes past the hour, every hour (usually from platform 7 or 11) As ronnie rails says, they will be packed but there are plenty of courtesy buses from the railway station to the course.

I’m fine thanks regarding Benidorm that was a one off after over 40 years at the festival I just fancied a change ,whilst I wouldn’t put anyone off giving it a chance it wasn’t really for me.
Merry Christmas to you and a safe and healthy new year see you in may if not before.

Irish the Railway Hotel you stayed in is now surprise surprise a Wetherspoons.
Not sure whether that has improved the site but from memory in its latter life The Railway was a right fecking dive - and that's being polite
