Now called The Plate.
Why the hell was the race title obliterated?
It just saddens me.

It's poor isn't it. Fred Winter and Vincent O'Brien have both been dropped from the names of their races in recent years to accommodate sponsors. Says a lot about the "guardians" of British racing.

Like many businesses the bosses seem to think that anyone with a degree in marketing knows best. They only want to appeal to new customers and take the old ones for granted. Mind you do we want to go back to Gloucestershire Hurdle, George Duller, Cathcart etc. It depends how old you are. There was no Arkle Chase until Arkle. At least the oldest of them all, the Grand Annual survives.

The changes to the rules have thoroughly killed off the NH Chase. Might be time to put it out of its misery.

Recall listening to race think it was last of the day in 1976 over extel blower in local bookies .When Michael Dickenson rode Broncho 11 to victory for dad Tony.

Not a great historian, plenty on the Wikipedia site regarding the "Mildmay " family history.

Introducing the Queen Mother to NH Racing, and the course at Aintree adjacent to grand National Track were two big influences on modern day racing.
