Yes it would be very helpful

Hopefully Paris pike is around

One thing it is chaps is it's cold. In addition we have had some light rain/sleet this morning.

Because of the air temperature, this "should" prevent the clerk from watering.

I live around 5 miles (westerly) from the course

Report The Sawyer March 9, 2023 12:27 PM GMT
More sleet this morning followed by rain - some fairly heavy bits too.

Stopped around 10 and definitely not as cold as yesterday.

Likely to start on soft ground and according to forecast be softer on Thursday, Friday.

Should make the Gold Cup a real test.
Report brandyontherocks March 10, 2023 8:16 AM GMT
12mm of rain in the last 24hrs. Covering of snow (@07:30). Snow flurries should clear by 10:00 today and then remain mainly dry. Overnight frost followed by a dry day tomorrow until some spells of rain/sleet in the evening. Dry during the day on Sunday with a band of rain moving in during the evening and through the night into Monday morning (5-8mm). An unsettled outlook for Festival week with occasional showers.
Report The Sawyer March 10, 2023 1:54 PM GMT
Again quite heavy rain/sleet and a bit of real snow early doors - cold and sunny now

There is snow on them there hills

Given the forecast for the entire Festival I think the going will be soft to begin with and probably get progressively softer throughout. The Irish horses - not that they need further assistance given their ability - will be aided further, I think.
Report impossible123 March 10, 2023 6:22 PM GMT
'The Sawyer', thanks for the regular update. Keep them coming. Will it be abandoned, you think?

Not necessarily so you need some serious rain thro the meet for that to be the case. Last couple of races on Wednesday last year ran on heavy but less than 48 hours later you have the triumph on gd to soft

Why would it help Irish horses IMPOSSIBLE the last few years Heavy has been found rarely on Irish courses, but ur right they have plenty abilityCool

Won't be abandoned impossible - glorious here this morning and temperatures set to rise.

what has surprised me is that the surface water has mostly evaporated although it didn't feel that warm walking Mutley this morning.

Report wondersobright March 11, 2023 3:41 PM GMT
45mm watering in february...absolutely ridiculous
Report brandyontherocks March 11, 2023 5:00 PM GMT
He hadn't rained all year. What should he have done? Left it as it was?
Report The Sawyer March 11, 2023 6:19 PM GMT
I agree brandy

The temperatures for the next few days are set to rise with Tuesday and Wednesday being "normal" March numbers. If there is little or no rain it wouldn't surprise me if he watered the new course ahead of the final two days.

The course drains overly well and with a bit of warm air - feck me it could be at worst good-soft.

Back to today it has rained in the last couple of hours but not a significant amount, but it ain't shirt sleeve weather

Claisse was class. His biggest problems were the media , the public and mostly the BHA . If the bha wanted good and there was a deluge the night before he would have good in the going description by lunchtime. He had all the drains relaid in the cross country and fences moved nearer hedges and trees, what was a bog six months of the year round suddenly came up much dryer. He had a geyser there who knew where to put the going stick for the right reasons. What he organised a couple of years back for the Irish contigent during Covid was unbelievable. He took ground maintenance to a new level and wanted parts of the course churned up and relaid because of reverse cambers, he told the bha time and time again until he got the golden handshake. Fair play to him, the new man has got a lot to live up to.

Plenty of good to soft in the latest going report, but great uncertainty about how much more rain will fall.
Report The Sawyer March 12, 2023 1:40 PM GMT
Been a dry day and definitely milder than it has been. Breezier than expected but not as warm as I had thought it would be given the forecast.

Going - Soft (Heavy in places)

a great example of knowing where to put the going stick.....
Report unclepuncle March 12, 2023 11:11 PM GMT
It was 100% definitely officially 'Heavy, soft in places' (so heavy was the winner for betting purposes).

For some reason the Sporting Life result page for the 2018 Supreme says Soft, heavy in places and even Timeform show it as just soft - both are incorrect.

Hi I'm 20 mins walk from the course and confirm there was quite a drop of rain overnight. Not too hard but sustained. I see the official racecourse page is showing soft all round on the old course and that feels about right. Not much rain this year though so I suspect unless more rain it should drain away with a low water table. Some unsettled weather on Wednesday but not sure if it'll be too heavy. Tomorrow will almost certainly be soft though.

Won on heavy only mate, except the ultima, loads of them on there.
I was at cheltenham once when it peed down all day , venetia had a double and another time shishkin fecked it and nichols bottled it with bravemansgame.
You make a very good point never the less.
