Alarm bells must be ringing for Irish trainers......the handicapping appears to be totally random this year.
A week ago Elliot entered a stack of horses at Musselburgh to flush out handicap marks. None ran in Scotland.
Escaria Ten was handed a mark of 140 for the Edinburgh National, and that resulted in bookies prices on the horse collapsing in the 3m Ultima and the Kim Muir (max rating 145 for the race)
Today, Escaria Ten appears to be going for the NH Chase; why? A rating of 147 has now appeared. If you backed the horse for the Kim Muir, you seem to have been stitched up by the handicapper. This sort of practice isn’t right.
So what of Elliot’s other entries at Musselburgh, what about the handicap marks that were declared for those horses!
Escaria Ten ran two Sunday's ago and as the English handicapper marks up to the previous Satursday Escaria was subject for a rating review based on the Sunday run.. As for the others the mark should remain but if form lines justify a rise then that's what the Enlgish handicapper will do.. Unfortunately this is why it's totally insane to take the marks on face value and foolish on the people steaming into Escaria for example without knowing the full facts
