Again you are right Irish.

You can get to Punchestown in an Uber which makes it convenient as well.

I have said it before and I will say it again
You are so far up your own backsides

Look at it from a different point of view
And once again open your minds....
What other world class competition
Finishes with some of the participants
Dead ?

Until cheltenham solves the problem of fatalities
How can anyone boast its world class ?

Until cheltenham starts telling the truth about the going it will not be worldclass ?

Until it stops taking gambles like not dolling fences off where the low sun causes a problem it will not be world class.

Usual blarney from the Irish "ejit" (again). To state Punchestown is way above the Cheltenham Festival is akin to saying the economy of a 3rd world country is larger than that of the UK. It is totally outrageous, and ineffectual as a statement!
Report Hanx February 25, 2019 9:56 AM GMT
......because, as an owner, trainer or jockey, you dream of having the winner of the Punchestown Gold Cup, don't you?
Report Hanx February 25, 2019 10:01 AM GMT
.....and 'Punchestown Festival' has a forum all to itself, bookmarked on the sidebar, which receives hits all year round
Report impossible123 February 25, 2019 10:02 AM GMT
Where is Punchestown? I've heard of Cape Town, George Town, etc, but Punchestown? Is it an enclave in Bethnal Green?
Report Hanx February 25, 2019 10:04 AM GMT
I mean I loved my two days there last month, but when you barely get 12,000 for the Dublin Racing Festival, the question should be more about whether Ireland is falling out of love with NH racing?
Report buddeliea February 25, 2019 10:24 AM GMT
Why are you bothering with the idiot with the huge chip on his shoulder?
I have never blocked anyone on the Racing forums, but this idiot is starting to get me thinking.
Report Hanx February 25, 2019 10:59 AM GMT
I love the sport and it's a slow Monday my end! Grin

He's full of blarney, but he's harmless!
Report buddeliea February 25, 2019 11:28 AM GMT
Hes got a massive chip on his shoulder re the Irish and the Brits, comes across in his posts all the time.
The festival is all about the horses.....should not matter one bit where they are trained.
Report Hanx February 25, 2019 11:52 AM GMT
That Ireland is punching above it's weight re jockeys, breeding and arguably trainers nationalities re Cheltenham representation, can't be argued.

Does anyone bar a few blowhards (clearly) give a brass shiny sh1te?

P.S The Prestbury Cup is the biggest pile of contrived £urd since the ringmaster spiked Dumbo's food with Exlax.

Racing (and Cheltenham in paricular) is about 'us' (the commited, the passionate, the bunch of overgrown kids on the wag from real life for a few days) against 'them' (the dullards), not what land mass you happen to hail from

Anyone bringing a flag to the party can just go die as far as I'm concerned

The Cheltenham Festival and The Grand National race are tradition ensconced in British society similarly the Epsom Derby to a lesser extent.
Report irishone February 25, 2019 6:01 PM GMT
They may be "esconsed"

.....but it ain't no world cup

^^
Do you drink Guinness or is that a silly question to ask an Irishman? My dad loved the stuff - a bottle every day when he was alive until the ripe-old-age of 88.
Report irishone February 25, 2019 7:32 PM GMT
Imp you have no idea where punchestown is
So why make a comment about something you know nothing about ?

Irish racing is miles clear of UK racing
You go to kentucky, or flemington
They know all about Irish racing and it
stands in much greater status than Uk racing throughout the world
The prestbury cup aside
You dont often see an english runner over here
When you do its usually one of the best they have
Alternatively most trainers here are not afraid
To go for what they consider  are easy pickings
Even in the lower class races in the UK
Report irishone February 25, 2019 7:41 PM GMT
Ascot attracts some of the best in the world
That would be acceptable as a justifiable
"World Cup" nomination , but that would be
Heavily contested imvho

Unfortunately the bands, bars, beers and bundles
At your horse racing meetings
Dont give you guys much credibility
In the World Cup stakes at the moment
Report irishone February 25, 2019 7:47 PM GMT
Hanx 12 k from 4m = dublin
Cheltenham 70 k from 60 m

Now you do the maths !
Report irishone February 25, 2019 7:59 PM GMT
Impossible
The guiness at cheltenham is the worst at any racecourse
A pint has to be left to settle
Dumbo bristol students have no clue how to pour a pint of guiness
.....and that incudes the guiness village

You seriously think that is world class ? Ffs
Report foxy February 25, 2019 8:27 PM GMT
Nothing to do with racing impossible but whilst plenty do drink Guinness in Ireland more drink hienakin

You don't see many Irishmen
Drinking the Guinness
At Cheltenham festival

There's one who doesn't seem to enjoy it at all - too busy doing maths, waving his flag and looking for some ketchup for the chip on his shoulder

I went to Punchestown Festival last year for the first time. (I go to the Cheltenham Festival every year.)

Punchestown pros - small crowds (by UK racing standards for big meetings) and decent weather with an “end of season” atmosphere.

Punchestown cons - quality races diluted by low grade handicaps, in the  middle of nowhere, limited choice of drink (Guinness or fizzy pish water but that criticism applies to Ireland as a whole).

The Punchestown festival stretches over 5 days but only has enough quality races for 3 days maximum. I think the 2 day Dublin racing Festival in early February will go from strength to strength and vie with Punchestown to be Ireland’s premier jumps meeting.

"Guiness or fizzy pish water".....spot on there

A bit like the world series in baseball. It might be the best in the world but only 3 countries play it and one of those (France) seems to have thrown in the towel. At least we allow the other 2 to compete which is more than can be said for baseball.
Report irishone February 28, 2019 9:01 AM GMT
There are quite a few french breds about to be fair
....and there are a few french trained in at the moment
But whether or not we see them on the day ....
Report sageform February 28, 2019 12:10 PM GMT
They may send some this year but it is a long time since M. Doumen had at least one winner most years. Where they are bred is not really the issue.

This is what Gordon Elliot said about the Cheltenham Festival.

Elliot: "Cheltenham is the place you want to win. You can have 5, 6 or 10 winners at Punchestown or Aintree or any other Festival, but it's never talked about again. Cheltenham is the Olympics and that's it."
Report irishone March 5, 2019 6:00 PM GMT
Very shrewd man glad he agrees with me, its no world cup, pity its going downhill so quickly , really needs to stop pulling in the money at all costs, the average spectator experience is declining rapidly .
