Back on the track today, be very interesting to see how he shapes up on his quest to join the great triple winners. The 2 novice hurdle winners from March take him on,so very intriguing. Not seen Summerville Boy yet, so we don't know how fit he is,but he looked a good winner of the supreme, and is pretty tough judging on his novice season. We have seen Samcro, and he has to improve a fair bit on that run to win this I think. But coming out of novice season, hes entitled too. Trainer form and first time out to me makes BD a tad vulnerable today, but if he runs a big race its ominous for the rest imo Certainly hope he does. Watch and no bet for me today. Cant see any value anywhere. Hope to see A race to watch and no bet for me.
You can criticize Laurina's price but a number of factors have contributed to it, the fact that the division is weak for one, we can also assume that she must be out performing the likes of Melon and Sharjah on the gallops and considering how close Melon got last year allied with the progression that Sharjah in particular is showing I find that quite notable that they're at least double her price.
I'm not saying she's another AP (before anyone jumps on that) but AP never ran against a single horse of CH calibre, not one, not even remotely close to one before hosing up in it, she doesn't have to prove she's worthy of her place before the race, she'll just have to do it on the day.

Annie Power had a lot more experience behind her when connections finally decided to run her in the race, would have won more than one imo given the chance. Laurina could literally be anything, none of us have any idea how good she is or can be. You may have a point re whats going on at home, certainly that makes sense in regards to Ruby wanting to ride her(I believe that is right?)and the bookies prices. Melon got close last year imo because the ground blunted the speed of BD and the staying power of BD won him that race. I would not expect Melon to get close to BD on normal Tuesday festival ground.

Laurina needs to be better than AP to beat Buveur D'Air (BD); AP and BD both beat My Tent Or Yours by the same margin at the Festival.
Personally, Vroum Vroum Mag and Limini all over again - both these horses were reckoned to be serious Champion Hurdle contenders.

I believe Gigginstown will run Apples Jade if Samcro doesn't line up and she would be their best chance of winning.
Its just nonsense saying she's not a 2 miler (she won a Grade 1 at Aintree by 41 lengths for god's sake and followed up at Punchestown). She's a super mare at any distance, end of.
She is a 7 y o rated 62, which is exactly the same rating as that other "stayer" Annie Power had when she ran in it as an 8 y o.The tactics would be just the same - make the running and make it a brutal stamina test. And there won't be many still involved from 2 hurdles out.

Well looking back at her race record, AJ had good juvenile form, losing to IG at Cheltenham, and then thrashing the same horse at Aintree(why the big difference? the Aintree after Cheltenham factor perhaps??) She then lost 2 races at 2m against the older horses, and was then stepped up to 2 and a halfm, presumably with mares races in mind, in particular Cheltenham. She has been very good in those races aside from two beatings by BDD.She has also had two races at 3m and won them both well. All this tells me that connections see her as either a mares horse or a stayers horse in March.
Yes its possible connections could drop back to 2m,as AP did with success. AP was a super sub and hindsight tells us it was the right thing to do,and also hindsight tells me that they should have run her in the race before then instead of the Mares races and the stayers race she ran in!!! maybe that will happen with AJ as well.
I can only go on what the formbook tells me though, and that tells me shes been campaigned since her juvenile days with no thoughts of a Champion Hurdle. More thought about the Stayers seems to me.
If she does turn up in the Champion Hurdle that would be great, giving us extra intrigue and excitement. She may well surprise me,fair enough if she did. My feeling is BD would have too much speed for her, but no way of knowing for sure until it happened.

Apparently Nicky Henderson is fuming that other trainers have entered horses against Buveur D'Air in the Contenders Hurdle today. "As the reigning dual champion hurdler, the horse deserves a nice exercise canter with no rags to distract him. I'm trying to complete his preparations for the treble with the weather and everything else against me and it's a disgrace the BHA has allowed other trainers to use the Sandown course. My horses deserve the best and this is yet another example of the ****-eyed thinking we're getting from the BHA these days."

Well i have to say AJ has got me right confused......or maybe her connections have!!! All this campaigning in Mares races and more recently 3m races, she now goes and does that over 2m. She has to be a major player in the Churdle for sure......if they run her in the race!! I hope they do,she would add some much to the build up as well as the actual race.

Music to my ears from Gordon. CH is a race to look forward to. Hope both horses get there fit and well and AJ is not in season! Goodness knows what they're doing to prevent this - playing Brexit debates to her? I couldn't make my mind up at this stage and will wait until the day.

They insert a marble into the horse's uterus to prevent the horse from coming into season.

I'm glad Elliot indicated the Champion Hurdle more likely for AJ, and no doubt connections of BD - he'll get a tow for much further. But what about those of Laurina? She'd have two horses to beat now, and The Mares is for the taking. Would her connections be tempted?

Don't say ye weren't told.

We managed to beat him at Kempton with a mare of our own in VERDANA BLUE who is very smart on good ground. She’ll struggle to beat him at Cheltenham though when it will be at least good to soft – it won’t be allowed to get any quicker than that. Any softer than that and she won’t run.
There are two factors going into this race. I don’t think he was at his best last year but we know why. He was in a box next to We Have A Dream who on the Monday morning of Cheltenam week had a screaming temperature. They lived absolutely nose-to-nose.
At 6am we got We Have A Dream out of the barn, he hadn’t touched a scrap of his food. Buveur D’Air is as tough as teak and didn’t get over Cheltenham at all last year. We were going back to Aintree, which should have been a piece of cake, but he couldn’t do it.
He wasn’t impressive in the Champion, it took him apart, races don’t affect him at all normally.
He got away with it but it was a bit scrappy. He’s going to have to be better this year because the opposition is better with the obvious threats being Apple’s Jade and Laurina.
Here's hoping he is better!!!

Ground may be a slight concern Foyles, will need at least good/soft I think to beat the 2 mares,AJ in particular I feel. They will try and make it that going, as they normally do.

yes budd been thinking about him and the mares, the bit hendo said below is swaying me to beuvair . he has been there in champion hurdles and done it and has less questions to answer and a backable price that could drift a little bit what with likley strong irish support for the mares on the day .think i will start backing him at sp rather than nrnb every week for from now

BD was not ridden to win the Supreme. He gave a start to the exceptional Altior and highly regarded Min; either would be a serious contender for this last year, and possibly this too. My only and main concern is Geraghty not taking it up until just before or after the last hurdle; the two mares do not worry mean as much as how he's ridden.

What an absolute ejit you are. Given up with advising HDB that monalee is a non stayer ? Now concentrating on advising geraghty how to ride What next ? Vetenary advice on horse injuries?

May I suggest you watch that race again?; pay particular attention to when BD was compared to Min and Altior. Then asks why Altior did not allow Min 1st run at the 2nd or last hurdle.

Well looks like no excuses for the Champ as far as ground is concerned. Could well be ideal for him, just some Mares to take care of!! That wont be easy.
God job they are running though, would not be much of a race to look forward to otherwise.

apples jade will not be getting an easy time of it up front , mullins with sharjah and hendo will also run a spoiler charli parkes type .she or laurina may still be good enough but the reigning champ is a tasty price now and not even fav on here ,he has less questions to answer having been there and done it .

Not sure about that Foyles Hendo has 2 others in the race and I don't see either of those front running for BD. And I don't see Sharjah anywhere near the front. Agree re his price though.

I do not think AJ could be gifted an easy lead or lead with Global Citizen in the race. Otherwise, Petit Mouchoir or Farclas could step up to assume the role of a pacesetter. If all else fails Espoir D'Allen could step up for the role too; a decent pace assured, I think, and the anticipated good to soft/soft ground will suit too.
The market resembles that of the fighting 5th when Samcro was absurdly made the fav; history repeats itself, I hope.

^^ The affection for the mares presently; one won 1 out of 3 at Cheltenham, and no proven 2-miler; the other unproven at all.
What price would BD be if he'd not run at Kemtopn?

I'm not the biggest fan of this horse but now thinking I might back him. mares both have question marks, particularly apple's jade in respect to the course, and the rest are rubbish.

thing about apples jade is her last run, she set off at a lung-bursting pace and basically just burnt them off
hard to do that at Cheltenham, they'll all be bunching up around the home turn

He would be evens. Race certainly set up to suit him with expected fast pace. Will sit in 3rd or 4 th and come cruising to the 2nd last . Whether hes got enough in the locker to go past Apples on the run in im not so sure. Fascinating contest reminiscent of historic battles: Hardy Eustace V Rooster Hardy Eustace v Harchibald Monksfield v Sea Pigeon Brave Inca V Macs Joy
where the dour staying galloper outstayed the turn of foot merchants

I'm not overly perturbed about AJ as she's sufficient form at Cheltenham, and over 2m; Laurina is the unproven one despite needing to improve significantly to beat beat either BD or AJ. However, I hope with AJ in the line-up BD will have a greater opportunity to be held up till just before or after the last to mount his challenge to whoever is infront then.

How can this horse be 9/4 ? Hes beat the best gordon and willie could throw at him and neat them fair and square ? I'll be respecting sharjahs galway hurdle win with a place only bet as well ...but seriously 9/4 buveir daire, at this stage is good value in my book .

agree with Irish he was never ridden to win the supreme but flew up the hill for 3rd going will suit, pace will suit and has the best turn of foot the two mares are quality but can Apples quicken thought they might go up in trip not back and cant have Laurina beating him, will shorten up i think.

^^ Yes, 3.9 for BD is an excellent staring point for in-running, and free money/bet almost assured, all things being equal; Laurina will probably trade bigger than the present 4.7 on offer, I believe.

Would not be confident at all of that free in-running bet on BD. Don't be surprised if its all AJ bar a fall from 3 out. She won't be coming back to them

I hope Punchestown (2m) next for a retriever mission as to fall 1st time in his career on the biggest race of the year deserves another chance to prove he's still the best. Let's hope AJ and Laurina and most of today's field turn up too.
A bad day all round: Lalor was pulled-up due to the ground; Kalashnikov brought down in the same race; Buveur D'Ar fell for the 1st time. Could it get any worse tomorrow with Champ/Battleoverdoyen and Delta Work/Santini?

On reflection one could say it was coming given the disrespect he gave to one hurdle at Kempton. Let hope money back next time after demolishing several of my accas. If there was a consolation (don't mean to be disrespectful to supporters of Laurina) I think we knew she'd be confined to the Mares (again) post today.

Imp 123, got out of jail with Rachel, beware delta, elliot stable had a best placed 3rd 2day, I very rarely lay but have on him and the national winner.

He could be going for the Punchestown Champion Hurdle against Melon, Apples Jade and others perhaps. I think the Aintree Hurdle over 20f on soft ground was too stamina sapping. If so, could be value, and payback time perhaps.

A step closer for him to making his 1st appearance at the Punchestown Festival; he's been given an entry with the meeting in May instead of April (proximity to Aintree). If showing no ill-effect from Aintree in a fortnight's time, and weather is ok it could be game on against Faugheen, Melon, Supersundae, Samcro, Laurina etc - he needs to redeem his tarnished reputation; Kemboy could also cross sword with Al Boum Photo in the Punchestown Gold Cup.
Let's hope the above materialise, and I could make my 1st couple of bets at this meeting for a very long while.

That was a pretty gruelling race at Aintree, and i would be quiet happy to see him finished now for the season. Thought he ran a fair race to be honest in those conditions and no disgrace getting beat by Supasundae who is a very strong stayer at that distance.
Next season we will find out if his owner has a better one.......i suspect he has, and we may have already found out,but we cannot know what would have happened had BD not fallen, so i will wait till next season to find out for sure.

I believe his stamina was stretched to breaking point at Aintree, but I hope he goes to Punchestown to exert and confirm his superiority over 2m. He's had a torrid prep running in races he ought not to eg Kempton (ground too firm), and falling at Cheltenham; nothing to fear from Supersundae, Apples Jade, Melon, etc, at Punchestown, I believe.

A redemption on friday at Punchestown; 15/8 against Laurina and Company - no Apple's Jade, I believe. M Walsh could deputise again as Geraghty is still out with a broken leg. And, the ground is yielding.

He's 13/8, but Laurina has chickened out to the Mares Champion, and possibly Apple's Jade (6/1) too. This race is Buveur D'Air's for the taking if Aintree has not taken its toll, I believe.

Only a convincing win tomorrow will do otherwise, any lingering hope of regaining his crown next year will be pie in the sky. My main worry is his exertion at Aintree, but Hendo is pleased with him.

A strange decision bypassing the Champion Hurdle for the Aintree Hurdle. Now his stablemate Epatante has drifted out to 5.5 from about 5 just a couple of days ago. She was 6/4 prior to her x'mas eclipse. A no concerned drift?
