Always one of my favourite races, and wouldn’t be Cheltenham unless I started a thread on it Grin

Not often you find a 50/1 poke you fancy... but I’ve had a decent bet on Enurgumene.

Mark Howard "When I spoke to Tom Lacey during the summer he was adamant Energumene is a much better horse than Blackbow (was Willie’s number one Bumper horse seemingly and 5th at the Festival) which bodes well for his racing career under rules. The Cheltenham bumper is a realistic target"

Tom Lacey (trainer) "He bolted up in first division p2p at Larkhill. The winning time was much better than the second division race won by Sebastopol. He was brought by Willie Mullins who also purchased Blackbow.. I think Energumene is an absolute weapon"

Jonathan Neesom (p2p expert) "Early season Larkhill form always worth looking at again, he was of two winners for Sophie Lacey (Sebastapol). Despite not jumping well, he quickened up very well. He looks star quality in the making and has since joined Willie Mullins"

50’s gone with Hills but still available with Bet365.

Hollowgraphic (rip) was of course a son of the Ballylinch Stud stallion Beat Hollow, and along with 14 time winner Wicklow Brave (also by Beat Hollow - they both have done really well for the WPM team.

The 4yo Mt. Linster (also by Beat Hollow and 40's for Cheltenham bumper) recently won very impressively at Ballinrobe (9/10 fav) is ONE-for-the-NOTEBOOK - owned and bred by Willie Mullins' wife Jackie, a half-brother to Blackstairmountain, "We've been keeping that name for a good horse," said Patrick Mullins (the mountain overlooks the yard).

So perhaps, as the Closutton brigade unleash another home-bred son of Beat Hollow tomorrow in Punchestown, we should look no further than the Stellar Football Partnership's GOLAZO Devil

Romeo Brown runs today at Cheltenham and may make into a Cheltenham contender.

Was weak last year and run a great race against Acey Milan (who went on to finish 4th in the 2018 champion bumper renewal).   Acey Milan had the benefit of experience that day, and over a longer trip and without the greenness there may not be much between then.  New years day is a place that Williams likes to target his best horses, so I think is very well regarded.

Interesting they have decided to keep the horse in bumpers rather than going novice hurdling.   Is entered in the big Newbury bumper in March so may go that route but I think it may be a horse to keep an eye on.

Report deepingfox November 16, 2018 11:20 PM GMT
It’s Mt Leinster vs Malone Road in Ireland on Sunday, joint favs for the Champion Bumper, WPM and Gordy go head to head, and if one of these wins by a few lengths from the other in 2nd, and posts a 135+ RPR, then the winner will probably shorten to as low as 6/1 in places, from 16/1 for the Festival.

If you have a clear fancy for one of them to win in March, now might be the time to put your bet on, if you haven’t already, and take the 16/1.
Report Catch Me ifyoucan November 18, 2018 5:19 PM GMT
MALONE ROAD easily dismissed market rival Mt Leinster at Punchestown (5/6 fav under Jamie Codd, stretching clear in the closing stages to score by 8 and a half lengths). Successful on debut for Stuart Crawford in a point-to-point at Loughnamore in March and subsequently changed hands for 325,000 pounds. He won with ease on his first start for Gordon Elliott and owners Cheveley Park Stud at Down Royal earlier this month.
Elliott said: "Jamie said he'll learn plenty as he was half-green through the race and behind the bridle. He's a horse that does everything easy and probably it's his first time being in around horses. I don't know about you, but I thought it was very impressive. In fairness to Patrick (Mullins) he went a good, honest gallop all the way. I'd say he tried to take the speed out of us but I'm really happy with the way he picked up. That'll be it now until Cheltenham."

Report Ramruma November 20, 2018 2:03 AM GMT
Malone Road looked like an aeroplane but why is he being put away till March? It is not to preserve his handicap mark! If connections are worried Malone Road is fragile, then suddenly the available 5/1 is not so tempting.

Think its more to do with the ground Ramruna. They dont want to run him on very soft.
Report sageform November 21, 2018 12:08 PM GMT
A bit early to take a strong view of the 2019 bumper but just had a look at the list of previous winners of the race and you have to go back to Cchampagne Fever to find a Supreme winner and then Cue Card to find a subsequent festival winner in any race. Many of them disappear without ever troubling the judge over obstacles.

Report differentdrum December 20, 2018 9:21 PM GMT
I backed her in that race and for a fair time I thought he could be tracking the wrong ones. Obviously, in the end she was in a different league and it didn't matter. She has probably won a very ordinary race very easily. As above if she backs it up I think she will end up at Aintree. That Sandown race can often turn into a slog.

Blue Sari visually impressive but slowly run race, soft ground, small field and guesswork as to the quality. 10/1 is no carrot whatsoever.
Report maelduin January 29, 2019 7:09 PM GMT
Andy Dufresne looked impressive today. Not sure if he'll go to Cheltenham but fingers crossed he does.
Report differentdrum January 30, 2019 3:33 PM GMT
Now got three very expensive, unbeaten ex-pointers topping the market. Do they deserve to be so short or is it flavour of the month?

They are all unbeaten but nothing has come out of their races to suggest the form is anything special.

At the current prices I wouldn't dream of backing any of them.

Another division that hasn't really evolved.
Report duffy January 30, 2019 4:07 PM GMT
Blue Sari looked a bit special to me, Mullins came on and said it doesn't do a tap at home.
Report differentdrum January 30, 2019 4:17 PM GMT
I know I knocked the price (and Bet 365 did subsequently go 20/1 on request) but visually he did appear to have more of a change of gear than the pointers but maybe that isn't the quality you most need to win a Festival Bumper. He isn't bred to be anything special.
Report differentdrum February 2, 2019 4:33 PM GMT
Envoi Allen no more than workmanlike today. Had the chasing horse wanted to run in a straight line it might have been very close. Winner doesn't look a superstar in this sphere but in a poor year he might be good enough but the price offers no value.
Report resner not lesnar February 2, 2019 4:41 PM GMT
I’m sure I’d read they weren’t going to the bumper with Envoi Allen it has this changed since the injury to Malone Road?
Report differentdrum February 2, 2019 4:50 PM GMT
Pretty sure Elliott said he would have to discuss with the owners but he inferred that would be his next start. He did keep saying he was a chaser in the making.
Report saxon farm February 3, 2019 1:09 AM GMT
Gordon said immediately after Navan in December, Envoi Allen will not
be going to Cheltenham, and this was after the  Malone Road scare.
A change of tune is fine but please pre-warn the attentive audience.
Anyway Envoi Allen reminds me very much of The I’ll fated No More Heroes.

Blue Sari purchased by JP.

Frank Berry stating the horse has options but what else has Mullins got for a race for which he is normally mob handed?

JP has also got Andy Dufresne but Blue Sari looks a quicker tool.

Master Debonair has been shortening up.... now 14's, 16's in places from 20's

His bumper win is outrageous - forgetting his win in the first one he came second in the next, 13 runner race producing 7 winners (30 runners, 6 different horses and 9 placed & 14 unplaced)
Then he toughed it out in a win in his listed race - 10 runners producing future form 7 runs, 3 wins (3 horses), 2 placed, 2 unplaced.

Master Debonair RPR 119! LOL LOL

I am pretty sure that GLORY AND FORTUNE is the best bumper horse this side of the Irish Sea,  Very impressive at Cheltenham on new years day.  I was there that day and the horse looked undercooked for that debut.  Already got track form and beat a stream of previous winners that day.  Horse is also a 4to so will get an 8lb pull in the Cheltenham bumper.

Horse is down to run this weekend (although I have heard he will not), if they do decide to run, the horse could shorten up.

Currently a standout 25/1 with William Hills, but more 20/1 and generally 16/1

Had Abacadabras not been impeded and then ducked into the rail in Envoi Allens race at Leopardstown then he would surely have got very close to the winner, seemed to be closing and going well at the time. Only had two runs and maybe more to come, 16/1 looks about right, win and place.

Was really impressed with Champagnesuperover at Ayr on Jan 2nd. Sauntered through the race and cantered clear in a time over 4 seconds faster than the Nicky Richards bumper winner, that had a protracted dual up the home straight, 5 days later on similar heavy ground. Took some of the 20s on Skybet hoping it turns up.

Have backed and keeping an eye on Power of Pause of Mullins. Has an entry Friday at Thurles, will be interesting if he does run and how he gets on. Like his PTP form.

The other is Deploy the Getaway, but have seen no news or anything, so guessing it’s either injured or Mullins has it totally geared up and will suddenly turn up on track, hose up and be fav on the day. Hoping for the latter! Form of his PTP is nothing special, but did win by 20 lengths and I believe Cheveley Park paid a princely sum for it.

I really like Gordon's Darling Daughter , she probably reflects  her 25/1 chance on here , but I loved her win at Leopardstown Festival on the Sunday . My question is this , she had her stable companion in the race Bigbadandbeautiful who was 5/6 jolly (that she slaughtered ) and she was a 25s chance . Gordon in his pre-Festival preview said she doesnt do anything at home and is definitely going to Cheltenham . Will he have changed the emphasis of her training since the result of that race ? ie can we expect even more improvement or am I just reading too much into things .
