In the last 20 years only Synchronised has ran further than the Gold Cup distance and gone on to win the Gold Cup, out of the 89 who tried! funny old thing stats mind you.

desmond if you believe that bollox you will believe anything
sure he probably took time to get over the ascot run, that's usually the case with horses that run to 170+ but they were never going to run imo and now the soft ground has come so have the excuses |

plenty that's how many you will struggle to find a trainer who hasn't had horses held up with their work for 1 reason or another |

They were very clear that they had misgivings about running here and the horse being less than 100% probably helped make up their mind, as Ruth said herself, she would look a fool running the horse if it was under the weather and didn’t perform. It may look a weak race, but I can’t think of many sub-par chasers that would have the beating of UDS. I do understand that there are punters who believe there fiver ante-post should guarantee them a run and that there are those who think that the game is rotten to the core and everyone involved is corrupt and looking to put punters away every chance they get. To those people I say this; why bother? Find something else that you do believe in, in which to invest your emotional capital. Life is short. |

I have no financial involvement in the ryanair or any A/P race market at cheltenham
I'd like to see him in the race for the sake of the sport and also for racing in the north I think the stuff that has come out in the last few days is laughable quite frankly although I respect their decision not to run |

if it was only the horses who were 100% that were running there wouldn't be many runners next week
but if they want to mind the horse and only run him when he's 100% then that's there choice |

So, for the sake of the North, you think the stable should run a sub-par 7yo with his whole career ahead of him in a potentially gruelling G1 chase against arguably the best 2.5 chaser in training. Presumably in the hope that it A) wins B) isn’t f***ed for the foreseeable.
The horse could be anything, the stable would’ve loved a festival winner, particularly given recent events. I doubt they’ve taken the decision lightly and were he 100% I think he would’ve run. You don’t, game of opinions as everyone is keen to point out. |

I would like to have seen him in the race as well,especially with the loss of Top Notch.
We now have 2 of the antepost favs as non runners, and the race is a lot worse off now. That however does not give me the right to call people who care about the horse and know the horse, basically liars. These are people who have been nothing but honest with us about this horse for ages now. Any stick they get on here or anywhere else is imo totally unwarranted. |

The lass has just lost her Dad who was obviously a major influence on her life and career. I can't understand why people would want to crab her for what looks like a patently sensible decision. We've seen a few sons and daughters struggle along for a bit after the deaths of famous trainer parents and then they pack it in. They're hard acts to follow. I wish her luck and hope she can carry on where her Dad left off. She's made a good start.

Ruth was straight with people about Cheltenham within 1 hour of his Ascot win. We don't know what the owners input has been on the subject.

The big puzzle is why he shortened again after being pushed right out following the statement from connections after Ascot when they made it pretty clear that they didn't like Cheltenham.

I just think this chat might sound v foolish if next winter/spring the horse picks up an injury or they struggle to get the ground they want for the races they should be aiming at next ssn given the ability of the horse
racing has a funny way of biting people on the backside for folding a good hand waiting for a better 1 injured and misses aintree  |

It would have been a brilliant decision to run the horse in the Ryanair when it wasn't working well

he really does look after his horses he is probably top of the non runners league there are a few of them over there dr richard and emma do the same thing dont run them unless 100% winning percentage more important than number of runners they think their clever ...... |

Thee horse has probably had a minor issue since Ascot which has now got worse and so he is out for this season and possibly for next season as well which is a terrible shame.

they have only got to lie down at an awkward angle and they can get up lame , many have cast themselves in a stable and not survived.

how many times do you think horses are 100% sound, fit, happy and healthy??
almost never in their career that's how often if owners & trainers don't want to run them then fine, its their prerogative but let's not have the lectures on here |

Ruth Jefferson interviewed a day or 2 ago and said "he is fine but won't run unless they are happy with the ground. He will not run in the Gold Cup now as he missed the KG so will concentrate on the Ryanair". There are not many opportunities to get a trial run before then unless over hurdles.
