Depends on the bookie. The ones in the key pitches max liability is higher. Anything and everything from £500 upwards generally.
Many years ago witnessed a £250k bet @ Freddy Williams pitch. Never batted an eyelid. The horse got beat. Sadly £250 is tricky. My friend was knocked back when he tried to put £1k on Kauto Star @ 4/5 a few years ago.
I mean, if you can't take a £1k bet on an odds on favourite in the championship race then what the feck are you masquerading as a bookie then (KS fell in the race)
