As Budd said it's been quiet on here this year, so who's organising this year's Plunge horse? @Rogerthebutler haven't you done it before in previous years? What do ppl think? This for me has always been one of the highlights of the Festival...
Correction: I nominate Crack Tiepy in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys Race. Currently 25-1 and I believe that's the plan!
Could well go off fav on the day.
Apologies

Yeah it's always a good laugh but - at the risk of getting all up the @rse about what should be a bit of fun - everyone needs to buy into the objective.
This could be anything from to back a winner (duh!), to try and make the market move, to get the 'BF Cheltenham Festival Newsgroup' mentioned by media outlets as 'the men the bookies fear'!
In the past we've tended to go for one horse in one race (usually a handicap and usually the 3 miler on day one as the runners are known, and punters don't get lost in the maelstrom of other activities during the rest of the week) plus a life-changing multiple. Bets are usually placed at a specified hour (Monday at or as close to noon as possible, from memory) for nothing else than the fun of seeing any bookies reaction to a multiplicity of bets on the same horses, up and down the land.
It goes without saying we've won naff all from this exercise over the years!
Anyway, there's a bit of 'structure' and 'how we've done things in the past'. Whilst it's great to get input from as may people as possible, I think it's always best to let the final decision rest with one person before the charge.
Not me though as I will be out of circulation for much of the Monday this year, but good luck and thanks to anyone who does step up to organize it.

Would be pretty tempted to suggest whatever the least favoured JP horse is in the Triumph. Everyone knows he loves a plot and in a Triumph where he could have a hand full, a plunge on his least favoured would probably make the bookies sit up and take note

The idea is that once there is a so called selected panel, they then get together (by private message) or like last year we created a whatsapp group. Then it is discussed and narrowed down to the final selection/s which are then revealed at a set date and time to try and cause a ripple in the market along with that added dimension or us all for a bit of fun make a few quid as well. As mentioned above we aint done brill over the years but the aim isnt to back a fav if possible as of course the bigger the price and the more people steam in then we shift the market. In the past it has only been advised to have fivers tenners or scores etc. So with only four weeks left may i suggest we crack on nominating a panel of say a max of five?

Definitely 180 - isn't it usually you, WellChief, FOYLESWAR & Marychain that do it? If so & ppl want to do that again then happy with the normal panel! I still remember Olofi in the County in 2012!

After discussion and final plunge horse being decided i will release the beasts name on Monday 13th March around 13.30. The clock is ticking so lets get cracking

hi sj ,and welcolm to the forum , the "plunge "is something thats been going for a few years now ,its basically a single bet in one of the festival handicaps at a decent price that is selected by 2 posters, rogerthebutler and marychain ,the selection is posted around lunchtime on the monday of cheltenham week and a large percentage of the forum back it , although the numbers on the forums have dwindled this year so there may not be the numbers there once were ,its just a bit of fun and hopefully we can profit from it , becoming a bit of a tradition now . an each way accumallator is also being planned..............

Count me in. I've been in the States as much as I've been here this winter and I might take a back seat on the choosing side this time if someone else wants a go, but I'll definitely pile in.

If we want in do we PM a horse let the selection panel choose from those nominated then take the plunge once PMD said horse on Monday Or just sit back and await hoss to be PMD thats selected If so im in either way . No doubt it will be reported from books reps as sustained gamble from well known faces

Mister Mayagi Coral Cup ran a screamer in Supreme made a complete horlicks of the 1st hurdle but upsides Buveur Dair and Petit Mouchoir @ 2nd last finishing just in front off P.M has won twice @ track and over distance will be suited by a step up back to 2 1/2 and better ground dissapointed on soft and heavy in past. Stable had 2nd last year with Long House Hall . Skelton is a master in his brief time laying em out for these big hcaps. Superb Story, Ctibello,North Hill Harvey etc. Currently around 25s

I've never understood the point of this annual thread. Not only does the cumulative impact of all the 50 pence bets placed by those saying "count me in" have zero impact on price but the so-called "plunge horse" never wins! This thread reads like a lonely hearts club.

Old Guard is one i'm interested in backing whereever i see him pop up next week. You go back far enough you see some decent handicapping type form. Rated at a high of 157 he's now come down the weights rated 150, so quite possibly might find himself near the top of the weights where ever he runs but last run he would have had no chance in again unowhatimeanharry anyways and was still dropped a pound or two. He's a hardy horse thats type often pops up in these festival handicaps at nice prices.
We'll see

Time is well and truely getting on now. Ive had a few messages with selections, does anyone want to sift thru them with me to make a final decision for Monday or shall we just go with the most compelling case and pile in when released Monday? Il be back on tonight and again Sunday so be quick and decide fellow plungers

You can almost smell the people who sign up for "the Plunge" you mean?
Rumour has it that few if any of the Plunge merchants will be at Cheltenham in person this week. Instead, the Festival will just be like any other racing day, stuck in front of the PC or telebox hoping on their lonesome.
Look forward to finding out at the end of the week what the Plunge horse was and how it fared. I can confidently predict the latter and I know I won't notice the Plunge when it happens because a small number of cack-handedly coordinated 50p each way bets does not move the market.

If you're not interested in getting involved why read the thread, and then go to the effort of doing several posts on it? It's a bit of fun between like minded people who want to have a collective winner during the best week of the year, and not cranks who like to have a go at others.
...also, what has being at the course got to do with it? You like staring at a screen 100 yards away, missing all of the pre and post race interviews, queueing for a piss and pint? Then so be it.
Anyway, like RV above, I don't care because I'm in a good mood. Biggest meeting of the year starts tomorrow, I'm off work all week and all is good with the world. Bring it on!!!

The true enemy is the bookies and as the 4 day battle gets underway I wish everyone well with their bets and hope the bookies leave Cheltenham on Friday thoroughly dejected and defeated.

Thanx anyway to all involved bit of a laugh.Collectively we thought we could move markets , little did we realise it would be in the opposite direction.
