Alistair Whitehouse-Jones discusses this in this weeks' 'Weekender', reckoning it's still a race you can plot one up for. Obviously though, to get in the first six of a qualifier, you have to reveal some talent at some point in the season but it's still a great race for those of us that love the handicaps at the festival

Make sure that your choice really gets the trip. There are only a handful of horses that get 3 miles over hurdles at the top level.

2017 Pertemps Final Handicap Hurdle Trends

Thursday 16th March - 14:10 - Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle) - Listed - 3m
11 of the last 20 winners won last time out.
There has only been one winning five-year-old in 40 runnings.
Only one winner has ran out from the handicap since 1974.
Horses rated 150 or more have traditionally struggled in this race.
Horses aged between seven and nine have won over half of the runnings in the last 18 years.
Horses aged eight or older have won 7 of the last 10 renewals.
Irish trained horses have won five of the last 23 runnings.
Just 1 of the last 19 winners had won a qualifying race.
2 of the last 12 winners started with single figure odds.
There are sixteen Pertemps qualifiers for horses to gain entry into this race so it is useful to check out the results of these. Although they are all key in getting the horses to the Festival in the first place, the Cheltenham Qualifier in October is a race to keep an eye on. Although not a qualifier, The Heroes Handicap Hurdle at Sandown in February is also a good pointer and has highlighted three winners in the last twelve years, although it hasn't been run the last two years. The Fixed Brush Handicap Hurdle at Haydock is also a good pointer, with three out of the last six winners having finished in the top five in that race prior to coming to Cheltenham.

From a site called betting directory/chelt festival.

Struggling to find full list qualifiers,no surprise if Barney Dwan gets another crack.

Anyone else have their eyes peeled on the Punchestown qualifier just there?

Glenloe stuck out like a sore thumb for me, and Presenting Percy still 33/1 is some rick from Betfair Sportsbook imo. Both need a bit of the Phil Smith treatment to get in but that should be a given. JP would obviously have any number of possibles for the race which tempers enthusiasm for betting the 16/1 Glenloe, but Presenting Percy for last year's winning connections, taking an identical route with similarly encouraging preliminary performances, rates a cracking bet at 33/1 for me. With Davy up on the day, I'd see it as a joint-fav or near enough.

always bear in mind that any horse rated above 138 is likely to get in to the final but anything rated lower needs to win or go close in a qualifier to make the cut.
