Got a couple of festival first timers in our group going on the Thursday want to make it as fantastic experience as I my first time last year any advice especially where to be in position for the opening race ?
Opening race I'd say try get a decent pitch in the stand, on the lawn you watch 90% on the big screen. I would recommend watching a race from the middle of course, I watched sprinter sacre demolish the field in champion chase from the middle of the course, great memory!!

One advantage of being male is they dont check you, they check girls handbags etc.
I wear a massive coat with about 8 pockets, just hoping for chilly weather now

It's not the boxing day sales. I don't want to be spending half the time there queuing when I can reach in to my pocket mid race and enjoy a single malt whilst watching the finest race horses on earth.

Totally agree, i dont tend drink unless the group has won loads then their is a need to celebrate. The only place where it is easy to get a quick pint is in the centaur, sadly it has to be guinness, but the van in the corner is reasonably quick. Hopefully someone will point us to a faster way.
I usually take a hip flask, small bottle of vodka and a few bottles of water, need to find some fold away cups. (btw this is for a group 6) hic

Regal it is not about saving money, between races and the paddocks their is very limited time to be wasted in a queue, generally the only time to drink is when you dont watch a race from the stands/grass.

first time I went to the festival I was only 16 , got the coach from Manchester on my own , got as far as I could at the top of the stand , couldn't believe the roar first race like a goal had just been scored , nowadays go in members lawn area

bankit • March 12, 2016 12:05 AM GMT What good is a piss before you hit the ale, where does that help 14 pints later...if I have to answer this, there is no hope for you.

The walk is much longer than you think, you can catch the bus shuttle from the rail station to the course, on the journey you can get off in the town centre and have a few pints, then get back on to a latter bus. they are very frequent.

dont drink 19 pints,by last race,(started at 10am),dont then carry on till 10pm and miss last train, dont then bribe national express coach driver to take you to worcster(can only book online he takes no cash offically).
you should be fine if you avoid these pitfalls.
as for newbys on a day out, just walk round everywhere and see all the different areas.

Stand by a group of attractive MILFS for the last race of the day.
Whether you win or lose let out an almighty 'GET IN THERE YA PHOOOKER!" at whatever crosses the line first, turn to the MILFs and go 'Bet of the day that one! Gonna be swigging champagne all night now'
Then take it from there.......
