Have a look at Germany Calling's record when fresh and on good ground - and then bear in mind he's been rested since mid-November.

Connections see him as a 3m chaser so could be unexposed for the 3m Handicap Chase on the Tuesday, with only Longsdon's so-so record at Cheltenham a negative.

Entered at Gowran as well isn't he? Was only looking at him earlier today. Impossible to guess what handicap they will aim him at though isn't it. Martin Pipe or Coral Cup maybe?
Report Joist February 9, 2016 8:23 PM GMT
He doesn't have one yet as far as I'm aware and this is the second time WPM has entered Townshend in a handicap over here so he seems very keen to  know what the handicapper would make of him - clearly eyeing up a Festival handicap imo.
Report slowerthanjohn February 9, 2016 8:32 PM GMT
Townshend needs to run over hurdles again to qualify for a handicap at Cheltenham. Very interesting imo.

Report miltons sophie February 11, 2016 12:38 PM GMT
not high enough to get m pipe or corl and unlikely for county  - few more pounds could get him in county, needs at least 5 i'd say for mp and possibly more for crl cup - so needs to run and at least place for county and win well for crl - for those interested he is now on here for county - me thinks mr s didnt want him lurking off bottom weight in county (a 133 might just have been enough) and is forcing to run again so he can reassess him if necessary.
Report slowerthanjohn February 11, 2016 1:16 PM GMT
MS Townshend has to run 3 times over hurdles to qualify to run in any of the Cheltenham handicaps, so only having had two runs WPM has no choice but to run again.

Report slowerthanjohn February 11, 2016 1:25 PM GMT
May not be but it's still a factWink the last few years you need to be 135ish for the County, 138 CC, 133 MP the year Don Poli won. But the fact is without a 3rd run over hurdles regardless of his current mark he will not qualify to run in any handicap hurdle at Cheltenham, that's my point ms.
Report slowerthanjohn February 11, 2016 1:34 PM GMT
So let me be clearer for you ms, say Mr Smith had said WPM Townshend is rated 139. We agree this mark would have enabled him to run in any race? But the thing stopping him from actually being allowed to compete is he has only ran twice over hurdles, to run in any Cheltenham handicap hurdle you have to have ran 3 times over hurdles regardless of you mark.
Report slowerthanjohn February 11, 2016 1:34 PM GMT
Hope that's cleared up any confusion.
Report miltons sophie February 11, 2016 1:34 PM GMT
yes i know omg that is not my point - my point is that he has ensured that he has another opportunity to reassess him - rather than him being able to run mid field in his 3rd run - and last year the mp was 135 and county 134 2014 county was 133 and 2013 was 132 -  i am trying to be really patient with you but you are coming across like a stalker

I'm not sure about the County for this lad, as I think further might be better. But if he does pitch up in a cap off less than 140, he may well be the gamble of the week.
Report maelduin February 11, 2016 1:46 PM GMT
MS Townshend has to run 3 times over hurdles to qualify to run in any of the Cheltenham handicaps, so only having had two runs WPM has no choice but to run again.

Aux Ptits Soins won the Coral Cup last year with only 2 runs over hurdles. Horses don't need 3 runs to get a mark, they can run 2 times and if they are placed in both or win one they qualify. Townshend got his mark based off of that. GL
Report slowerthanjohn February 11, 2016 1:46 PM GMT
Desmond all I am trying to say regardless of what mark Townshend has been given he needs to have ran three times over hurdles to run because it's above a certain class race. So in effect Mr Smith knows he has to run again, that's allLaugh

your corrections are pedantic and trivial imo and a poorly disquised legacy of your dislike for my posts when you first emerged (or first time i remember you emerging) when others were getting fed up with you (or are you going to say thats not a fact either as i can happily point you to their comments) -  now with regards to facts - if you want to correct me i suggest you do it factually  i said 133 could get him in the county the average of the last 3 countys is 133 fact not 135 ish.

I have met many people that prefer to critique others rather than put up their own original thought to be critiqued its certainly a lot safer space to play in as i believe it is a lot easier to destroy than it is to create - there are many on here that have my admiration because they regularly put there neck on the block. i have also met many people that avoid the tougher questions they are asked or the ones that would require them to admiit perhaps they were wrong and respond with a deflection. I dont claim to be the most knowledgeable poster, and i am sure many out there dont rate my posts but i enjoy interesting debate.

Speaking as the unofficial referee.
Milton, John's views are often delivered in a slightly more robust fashion than many would like, but on the whole, he's not a bad sort. He seems to have valuable insight on most of the threads he comments on and I think we all appreciate the need for a little more traffic through here.
And as shown above, he can readily admit when he is wrong, so that charge can't be levelled against him.
John, stop being pedantic, it was a minor point, you knew what you were doing - consider wrist slapped.
Report slowerthanjohn February 11, 2016 2:10 PM GMT

I think ALL YOURS is very well handicapped for PFN.  This is a grade 1 winning hurdler and you can ignore all its form on soft ground.   He is rated 147.   It is a joke that Connetable is rated 150 as AY would beat him 99/100 over 2 miles on good ground.

Target is County but could miss festival altogether in favour of Scottish Champion Hurdle. 20/1 NRNB
