He is the best horse but he ain't the best stayer and that's what the GC is all about.

Horses that win  GC having previously failed once (never mind twice) are as rare as hens teeth
This is my lay of the festival (possibly even a place lay)

I have been trying to get someone to give us an example of a horse that has won a Gold Cup at the third attempt - with no luck

The Fellow won it on his fourth attempt in 1994

6/1 now with Ladbrokes max bet £25 for a limited time only.

It doesn't worry me that it hasn't won it in 2 attempts, to me there are valid excuses of why he hasn't. He may run the race of it's life this time around and still get beat and if he does fairplay to whoever beats it. But to me everything as it stands now and with the improvement that he has shown this season it is definitely the one to beat imo.

If I am wrong about him and it's beat fair and square then so be it, but it's all about opinions and prices.

Has he improved,I don't think he has.

Magic days - 'If I am wrong about him and it's beat fair and square then so be it, but it's all about opinions and prices'

Sure it's about opinions - but the price is 3/1 !!! And Laddys were going 6/1 for an hour?

And in my earlier post I said I am on at bigger prices. Although if pushed to have a bet now (which I am not) I would still rather back him at 7/2 than any of the others in the race. Some people will make it a 5/2 shot and some will have it as a 10/1 shot - it's all about longterm profit not one race - we can all get it wrong.

Ladbrokes can go what price they want it wouldn't worry me. If you think by them going 6/1 for an hour tells us everything we need to know about the horse I think you are mistaken. If they want to show they want to take it on why not just go 4/1 - 9/2 and lay for fortunes rather than pennies at 6/1? A bit of free publicity going 6/1 that's all.

SC is the form standard in the GC, why wouldn't he be favourite? What could possibly happen in the next 2 weeks to see him dethroned from the market leader position?

Two chances Jasey slim and none mate, only reason wont start Fav if doesn't start.
Could see Carlingford Lough going much shorter, due to Mcoy factor.

No doubt he will be fav,but imo theres doubt he has the best form.

He has won the most prestigious races thats for sure.I can't understand why PN has chose not to try him round Cheltenham.

KG was very impressive,Prefer the Lexus form myself.

Got to agree with buddiliea, as impressive the KG win was, I like the Lexus form more myself.

interesting debate about the best form lexus or Kg? ..What a people's view on Sam Winner finishing so close to RTR and How would PN compare Sam with Conti?

Good question Jasey you think he may have, maybe didn't fit into his plans?
As Nicholls always said Betfair and King George, like season before.

Personally think both Sam Winner and RTR will relish 3m 2f at Cheltenham. Not sure SC does.
Think RTR is the better horse and had it been decent ground in the Lexus would have beaten SW a lot more comfortably.

As a Conti backer, Road to Riches is the one I fear the most, and by some way.

If the GC was run at Kempton on soft ground I'd take 2/1 on SC.
At Cheltenham, on 3m2f on g/s (maybe faster) I'd want 7/1.
I can't make my mind up on the race, but it won't be SC for me.

I'd take Lord Windy - not been anywhere near fit yet and Culloty has first hand experience of timing a horse's prep for a Gold Cup, Djakadam - on potential and Holywell as a spring/course specialist. So I will have Russell, Ruby and Richie Mc on my side. Settle for that. Still think that Boston Bob has a big race in him, but at the prices can't have Silvi, Carlingford or Road to Riches. That said, I would love to have a 50/1 each way voucher on Noel Meade's horse.

Culloty not had winner for almost one year, would be slight worry re LW.

Fair point stevo - but I think that stat was the same last year. Then Spring Heeled and Lord Windy in 48 hours

Yeah that is correct cant happen again surely lol?
Afraid couldn't back any trainer on such a poor run, good luck with LW.

what going do you think would  be ideal for Conti?

If you think he's the best horse in the race but worry about what will happen after the last you'd probably say on the day you'd be hoping for good ground.
