Couldn't fancy this more strongly for the Foxhunters.

Was a good hurdler but an even better chaser - unbeaten over fences - 2 from 2 in novice chases then 3 from 3 in hunter chases by 11l, 11l, 19l, 19l and 8l - without coming off the bit in that last one in beating the useful Shoreacres with Pearlysteps (who won Teaforthree's race on Saturday) beaten 11l in it.

AP rode him in both novice chases, Sam Waley-Cohen in all three hunter chases so Warren G is treating him like a very good one. Unless Sam's dad has a fancy for the Foxhunters he will have SWC on again which looks a formidable partnership.

Disappointed to find today he hasn't been declared for tomorrow's Hunter Chase at Taunton but he has now been entered for Doncaster on Wednesday and Huntingdon on Thursday so should get his run this week after all. Will be concerned if he doesn't take either up, but if he does and hoses up as usual he will be clear fav and probably 4s instead of 7s for Cheltenham.

Oh, and has 2 wins and a 3rd from 4 runs around Cheltenham.

All aboard.

Agreed and can tell you RWC is very keen on his chances, Good Luck Roger.

Must have good ground Roger?
Report Roger The Butler February 16, 2015 10:08 PM GMT
Last time out was good to soft and probably his most impressive performance yet, but yes I wouldn't want to see him run on anything softer than that. Seriously exciting beast though.
Report Can't Catch Me February 16, 2015 10:19 PM GMT
Already a backer myself. Looks a fairly weak renewal at this stage and I think he could go off sub 3-1 fav.

Big fan as well,ik9

Have him in a few multiples. Declared at Doncaster tomorrow
Report Can't Catch Me February 17, 2015 11:11 AM GMT
Coral have been ducking him at 5/1 for the past couple of weeks, but have just removed him from their market....
Report Roger The Butler February 17, 2015 9:19 PM GMT
The beast goes at Donny tomorrow with SWC up as usual. Good to soft ground, 3m2f, nice little test against former good horses Calgary Bay and Quinz. Is giving them both 8lbs too so if he knocks them off with ease he will deserve to be 4s or 7/2 for Cheltenham. Still in as 5/1 fav with Coral.
Report Joist February 17, 2015 9:34 PM GMT
He's developed into one of my biggest Festival punts and it's pleasing to read so much confidence in him. That Stratford race was a farce from what I remember though so not sure it's worth anything. But the point stands that he was very progressive over hurdles until injury and could easily be the class act in the field now that T43 won't qualify.
Report Can't Catch Me February 17, 2015 9:40 PM GMT
Cheers Roger, don't know why he wasn't showing on oddschecker before....
Report Can't Catch Me February 18, 2015 4:34 PM GMT
Fantastic performance.

Bit iffy at a couple of fences, but to power away from Quinz giving him 8lb's was superb, especially considering Quinz was about 5th fav in the betting. Should be clear favourite now.
Report Can't Catch Me February 18, 2015 4:36 PM GMT
Managed to get a bit more on at 7's with Hills.

Paddy already make him 5/1 fav.
Report Roger The Butler February 18, 2015 10:03 PM GMT
I was actually a little disappointed having watched it but as you say, he was giving lumps to Quinz who is no mug - with Joe Hill claiming 7lbs and Sam claiming nothing it was actually just over a stone he gave away to a formerly decent horse and still beat him 10 lengths.

Was hoping he would enhance his Cheltenham claims but for me he just confirmed them. I'm hard to please!
Report Roger The Butler February 18, 2015 10:07 PM GMT
Was also his first start for 9 months so entitled to come on for it too.
Report Can't Catch Me February 18, 2015 10:19 PM GMT
You're obviously not alone mate as plenty of firms haven't shortened him at all. I'm obviously more easily pleased!
Report Swardean February 19, 2015 6:31 PM GMT
I was in the "ok run" camp, but plenty of reasons to suspect it will improve, the stable is only just starting to re-find its form should be fitter for the run.   the question is how does it's form stack up the Irish Challenge (who have won the last 4 runners).   Salisfy is the one surprising overlooked.   Is only a 10yo (same age as PTC) but seem to have been around for ages.

Lightly campaigned this year with Cheltenham the only consideration, there is still a suggestion PTC may bypass.   Salsify's comeback run was immense IMO, jumped the best I have seen any horse jump this year.   Ridden up with the pace (he will be ridden from the back in March), was bang there 2 out and just faded.   10/1 looks an amazing ew bet.
Report Roger The Butler February 19, 2015 9:22 PM GMT
Paint The Clouds definitely not bypassing Cheltenham:

Warren G quote after Stratford in May: The plan with Paint The Clouds will centre around coming back in the autumn for a campaign that will end up with him at Cheltenham next March for the Foxhunter

Warren G quote after Wednesday: He´ll improve a lot for today and will go to Cheltenham (for the Foxhunters) with a live chance. He´s had his problems down the years, but he´s a proper horse
Report blackbarn February 19, 2015 9:40 PM GMT
I am in the impressed camp. Stable only just out of "snotty nose" time, and there's an argument that those that are winning may (on current and past performance) have more to offer.
Report Ibrahima Sonko February 19, 2015 9:47 PM GMT
Looks a decent horse but big chaser winners trained by WG are thin on the ground, but he has made big strides with his novice hurdlers this season so we will have to see if he is not the 2nd lenny lungo.
Report Ekbalco February 19, 2015 10:35 PM GMT
Excellent chance at Chelt. ; good thing for Aintree with Sam up - any firming of the ground in his favour.
Report Swardean February 20, 2015 9:51 AM GMT
I thought its jumping style was a little low and fast for aintree
Report TheCollector February 20, 2015 12:04 PM GMT
I'm on this at 7-1 also after taking notice of the above threads. Had actually never heard of the horse until the other day. Fair price with SWC on board. I was at Leopardstown the other day and was gonna be all over Prince du Beachene for this but he's not in this for some reason. On The Fringe was tenderly handled by Nina also but has had a couple of goes at this I think and not succeeded.. This thing just wins and wins well when it runs.

Doesn't qualify to run in it. Really like the look of PTC myself.

Has finally reached 4s in a place, with 365, and Ladbrokes close behind at 9/2.Top price 6s in just a few places.

365 Nr no bet now.

are you an arber rodge,if you really fancy the horse why do you want it to shorten
Report Roger The Butler February 22, 2015 10:23 PM GMT
Not an arber. Am an ante post punter and I don't know any of those who want to see a horse go off a bigger price than what they got it at.

Is there a favourite next week with worse stable form?
Report Roger The Butler March 13, 2015 12:51 AM GMT
Poor stable form? How many other trainers in the Foxhunters won a Grade 1 with their latest runner?

If Annie Power had stood up this would now be the last leg of an accumulator to win £64,000.
Report TheCollector March 13, 2015 9:39 AM GMT
Ground a big worry with the rain
Report ThunderRoad March 13, 2015 12:23 PM GMT
Can't see it mattering tbh. The more I think about it, the more I realise this horse is one of the bankers of the week. A weak Foxhunters & Paint the Clouds looks 10 pounds clear.
