Would have to be Katchit although looking back this is the race i have had least success with over the years.Had backed him for the Triumph the year before when he was so impressive so followed in a year later. Didn't really do too much after but was a real terrier on his day.
Queen Mother
Klairon Davies wont go down as one of the best winners of the race but he saved my festival mid 90s. The cameraman forgot about him as he seemed to appear in the picture just jumping the last then proceeded to skip away.
World Hurdle
Baracouda winning at 9-4 beating the Irish mare Bannow Bay. What a horse this was, would have given Big Bucks' a run for his money. 9-4 must have been one of the steals of recent times.
Gold Cup
Desert Orchid getting up to beat Yahoo, took the day off school to watch it and if i mind right his participation was in doubt because of the soft going. Some horse he was, wasnt afraid to run in handicaps giving stones away to good horses.
Istabraqs final romp and the Irish (well, Irish-plus-adopted-Irish that day) going mental
QM
One Man...or Master Minded's first - proper 'what the hell was THAT?' moment
WH
Anzum's win, where one of his owners was next to me on the Lawn. The horse came from somewhere near Stratford-On-Avon to get up in the dying strides, at which point the owner grabbed me, did a little dance and started crying like the baby Jesus! 'The Cheltenham Effect' I suppose!
GC
Long Run's Gold Cup where 'the right horses' were involved in the finish from a long way out, with the old timers going out on their shields in noble fashion

I remember being there for the final Inglis Drever win and i was cuddling a chap i did not know, weird to think about it but at the time it was superb.
My favourite races change every year but mostly i love novice races.
Still have a step named after Spirit River at cheltenham, i often text my mates when we split up, im near the spirit river step.
I have even taken my parents to the spirit river place in the stands

Beat some serious horses that day sint, fair play to you if you saw his talent when thrown in at the deep end.
I had one of major bets on him to win the hennessey.

Apart from that mistake at the last, just watched the vid.
I started a fred the other year, i think i have seen BB race nearly 20 times live. strange as i only go to newbury, ascot, chelts & aintree. But still, im not even a big gambler.....

Bula winning in 1971 from 3 times champ Persian War .....my fav ever horse.
Queen Mother
Badsworth Boy's 31 length demolition of previous years champ Rathgorman ......yes 14 lengths further than Master Minded's victory. A superlative performance from the only 3 time winner.
World Hurdle
Baracouda fighting off the grey horse who's name I can't recall ......not a big fan of this race.
Gold Cup
It would have been Tied Cottage and 1980 ......Silver Buck winning beating stablemate Bregawn in 1982 , almost unbeatable away from Cheltenham , this magnificent jumper of a fence was not at his best at Cheltenham.

Champion Hurdle Would have to be Hardy Eustace 2005 for me. Jumped off in front, hurdled like a dream, and was never headed. I remember Harchibald, Macs joy, Brave Inca, Rooster Booster etc all cantering in behind coming down the hill, and he saw them all off. Harchibald seemed to get all the attention for seemingly being a dodgepot and I never felt Hardy quite got the credit he deserved. Three consecutive wins at the Festival, and then another third, and all for one of the nicest men ever to grace racing, Dessie Hughes.
Queen Mother Really hard to pick one... Undoubtedly my favourite race at the Festival. So many classics like Katabatic, Deep Sensation, Viking flagship etc where there were three in a line coming over the last. Edredon Bleu breaking my heart beating Direct Route. But would have to be One Man. Right up there with my favourite horses of all time and one of my first festivals. Felt like I had a life changing amount of money on him at the time... Was probably about £50, but will never forget the buzz of him winning that day. After the disappointment of three Festival defeats, it was great to see him get his victory that day and go down as a Festival winner.
World Hurdle Nothing jumps to mind for me really here. Remember Dorans Pride very fondly, but purely for pocket purposes. Probably Inglis Drever's last win. Brought the house down that day.
Gold Cup Simply has to be Desert Orchid. My Dad, who I still go with to this day, hasn't missed a Festival for nearly 50 years and he let me stay off school to watch Dessie that day. Didn't look like he was going to win at any point after turning in.... I'll never forget the sound of the roar from the crowd. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it now! That was the day I decided horse racing was something special and that I had to get myself to Cheltenham. I'd always gone racing since being about 4 or 5, but that was the day I properly got the bug!
The best four days of the year..... Not far away now!
