I believe the race has been reopened due to lack of entries mate
By:
8 entries only and not released until after tomorrows deadline. The 8 plus any additions should be known by lunchtime tomorrow.
By:
cheers lads...rumour has it kings palace may also get an entry.
By:
I believe they reopen the race if there are less than 10 entries, card looks amongst the best all season at 5 day stage, Cleeve looks a cracker if most of 'em turn up.

i think the betting will be tight here maybe dynaste fav and close behind.

By:
Dynaste (9/4), Many Clouds (3), Holywell (11/2), Smad Place (6), The Giant Bolster (8), Black Thunder (12), Double Ross (20), Theatre Guide (25)

By:
Is Dynaste likely to be a runner in this? I assumed Pipe would want him fresh for the Festival, seeing as that method worked last year. Smad Place is a good bet at the prices and weights imo. I reckon Theatre Guide could outrun those odds too with Tizzard in really good form. 8 runners antepost, but Jonjo has stated Holywell is more likely to run in the Cleeve.
By:
Smad Place very good chance at these weights.
By:
Why the **** would you run Holywell in the Cleeve if you were going for the Gold Cup? Maybe he's off to the world hurdle instead
By:
^^^ was always the plan , pal, don't know why.
By:
It's weird eh? No doubt he is a Festival horse...he would be intriguing for a World Hurdle. Trainer top class at getting them ready for March
By:
Perhaps it's because he realizes as he should by now that throughout the winter in bad ground Holywell suffers with his jumping and probably feels that continuing with this in a relatively hot race around Cheltenham would be counter productive, we know that he's much improved on spring ground as he showed by his two wins at the festivals last year....more important now just to get a run into him...that's my guess anyhow....he's not a novice so don't see how a spin over hurdles is going to confuse or harm the horse going forward.
By:
But why enter for both on the same card? It's not as if one could be cancelled so would run elsewhere !!!
By:
Giant bolster 9/1 appeals. Some firms going 1st 3 e/w.

Cant resist backing Theatre Guide @25/1 with pp

Have just backed Black Thunder 12/1 EW as the price is just too big to me. I don't understand why Many Clouds is 3/1 and this chap is 12/1 and the same applies to his price for the Gold Cup. Just take a look at their form and I challenge anybody to explain the difference. They clashed twice last season off levels resulting in a win for Black Thunder by 2l and then both failed to complete in the RSA. This season the common denominator is Merry King. At Ascot in November Black Thunder finished 2nd 6l in front of MK giving him 11lb. Then in the Hennessy Many Clouds beat MK by 4l giving him 13lb. This proves as much as you can that they are almost identical yet Black Thunder is 4 times the price.
I would be very worried about Smad Place if he were on song as he has class and great course form, but his Hennessy run was disappointing. The Giant Bolster loves it at Cheltenham, but when he won it last year he was getting weight from everything this time the boots on the other foot. Dynaste is the classy proven chaser but over shorter distances, so at the 9/4 I can look elsewhere. Holywell probably won't run and for me the other 2 have it to prove in this grade. |
By:
I like Smad Place for this, he's getting plenty of weight from his rivals here. He's got some quality form on soft ground and at Cheltenham. Was wrong to go fto for Hennessy.
The Giant Bolster will run well, but he has to shoulder 11-10 here where he was on 11-0 when he won this last year. Race is a tougher one too. Dynaste will be exposed for not staying the trip well enough to win. Theatre Guide is very much over priced here at 25/1, and that's a price to take. Double Ross isn't without a chance either, he could easily run a huge race back at a track he really enjoys. Holywell, nah just doesn't like this time of year. Many Clouds would be right in Gold Cup frame should he win here. I feel he had fitness edge on many in the Hennessy. Black Thunder has to shoulder 11-10 here to some quality horses, this I feel is beyond him. |
By:
Smad Place at 5/1 each way for 3 places looks a fair bet to me.
By:
I like Smad Place too - bit concerned that the stable has been quiet - as opposed to out of form - and Carraig Mor went out like a light at the weekend far too soon for the ground to be the sole factor.
Anyway, King has plenty of entries this weekend so I'm probably overthinking it, will wait until Sat before I get involved... |

many clouds for me with TGB thereabouts as usual

Forum charge... Smad Place the absolutely stand out bet for me as well.
By:
^^^ Yeah, same here. At the weights he has to be the bet.
Saw the 6's and stupidly waited and that's all gone now. Wanted to double him up with Peace and Co but only PP have that race priced up and they are 7/2 Smad. |

What happened to the intended plan to run Coneygree in the Argento, seemed well set a few weeks ago??? I was looking forward to seeing the novice form against older stars?

I'm in the Theatre Guide camp... pleased to see Slybet have pushed it out to 25s so gone in again... this horse had clearly had its problems with less than 20 starts as an 8 year-old... downside is that a big run could make it a lively Gold Cup outsider and all the fancy prices have gone...
By:
I liked the Theatre Guide play but almost all of the books are now 1-2 only, which makes it a whole lot less appealing...
By:
Slybet go 3 places, 1/5th odds...
By:
Thanks for that - really weird, I looked an hour ago and none of them were going 3 places, but now most of them are... Wonder if Holywell might run and they've just heard?
