Taken from first post on the champion hurdle thread -

Aside from those 7 mentioned the division lacks much depth to my eyes. Right now you can go back Vaniteaux 33/1, Irivng 33/1, Tiger Roll 25/1 all e/w and come out with a profit if any one of them even places. I think they do offer some great value and have backed all the on the nose. With a view to adding Jezki post soft ground slow run race defeats in Ireland.

And now you post this

I've Irving, Vaniteux and Tiger Roll all backed. All bets are written off as Vaniteux won't be running according to Henderson, I think Tiger Roll will surely go for a handicap surely. But maybe slim chance of Irving squeaking into the frame, but that's more hopeful than anything. So they're lost antepost bets. My only real financial interest remaining is Hurricane Fly e/w.

I've a spreadsheet actually. Much better than a filing cabinet. I have a column which contains lost antepost bets, then I put all my live bets under a heading for each race. Supreme, Arkle etc.. I build books for each one, 2 in the Arkle, 2 in the Supreme, 3 in NH Chase etc..
Report CVByrne February 3, 2015 10:56 PM GMT
This years Champion Hurdle is £80 in lost bets, £31 e/w on Fly and £15 win. Compare that to the last 4 years and it's dwarfed. I've more money on UDS, Vautour or Peace and Co than I've got in the Champion Hurdle. Race just not one for a big bet this year.
Report SoYouThink February 3, 2015 10:57 PM GMT
Tiger Roll would be interesting back on good ground at Cheltenham. Not saying he'd win but a performance above the level of what he's shown in his last few runs would not be out of the question.

I feel the race is being billed around 3 horses - 4 if you consider Hurricane Fly a contender - and it underestimates everything else.

Plenty of e/w opportunity outside the big 3/4.

I bet on UDS @ 7/1, & 9/2 Sint, £50 & £100. I've almost £600 of lost / written off antepost bets so far. So that's £800 profit if UDS wins and I'd only get £90 profit if I put the £150 on at the current 4/6, so the antepost value on one horse can cover lost antepost bets on others. That was my point

I think they're still trying to work out what went wrong the last day. Watch Paddy prices for indications as to where he's likely to go. Personally I reckon it's the Neptune or wait til Punchestown. I gather he's fit and well if that's a help.
Report Can't Catch Me February 11, 2015 3:47 PM GMT
Looked at Paddy's prices this morning. Noticeably longest on him for the Neptune and shortest for the Supreme.

Report CVByrne February 11, 2015 9:49 PM GMT
You'd imagine Mullins would want him to run in Supreme as he has 3 already for the Neptune.

Eddie O'Leary said Neptune was the race for him a few weeks back so you'd imagine as Giggenstown decide where their horses go he could well run in Neptune.

Once the defeat came lto the original plan of Neptune was put into question

Giggenstown have always said they want a runner in each race, aside from Tell Us More I don't see who could run in Supreme that wouldn't be a big outsider. He'd have been a cert to run in the Neptune had he won the last day, but to be beaten by McKinley is very poor form.
Report Tory February 17, 2015 10:44 PM GMT
I've had two bets in the supreme and two in the neptune:

Supreme
Allez Colombieres @ 10/1 and 16/1
Alvisio Ville @ 25/1

Neptune
Tell Us More @ 20/1
Shaneshill @ 10/1

Gone a treat this year!!
Report CVByrne February 17, 2015 10:49 PM GMT
Problem is Mullins has so many good Ricci, Wylie & Giggenstown horses. He has to keep them apart for their owners and he also wants to try keep his best chances apart to maximise his own winners. It's been an interesting and tough year to try place his string. One defeat relegates one from preference of a race.

I wonder if something has been up with TUM and Shaneshill though, not been sighted is ages and they were both defeated on their last starts.
Report SoYouThink February 17, 2015 10:51 PM GMT
Shaneshill running in the Supreme too. Nichols Canyon in the Neptune. Although we kind of knew that after the comments from the Deloitte.

Tell Us More could be forgiven the one bad run. He ran quite well for most of the race but just didn't quicken at all. As you said yourself CV in other threads, there could have been something amiss with him that day and we never heard.
Report CVByrne February 17, 2015 10:55 PM GMT
Forgive him a bad run aye. But he's of no interest over 2 miles in the Supreme for me. He's a Neptune horse or he'll produce an Un Atout Supreme performance. Supreme is the race for Shaneshill (if he turns up) as Wylie has ones for the other two races.

But going on a bit of hope for both in the festival. I'll be mighty happy if either win but I fully expect both to be defeated.
Report Tory February 17, 2015 11:11 PM GMT
Don't know if you've seen the Mullins interview on the ATR site.

Says regarding TUM that the school of thought was to drop him back in trip after his defeat but he felt he had different reasons for they defeat.

Then goes onto say that he's probably headed for the Neptune. Doesn't commit but that was his line of thinking.

Coupled with the O'Leary interview a few weeks ago, what's happened in the past week for TUM to now be headed to the supreme? No horses have won etc
Report delsie777 February 17, 2015 11:44 PM GMT

Report wellchief February 18, 2015 8:19 AM GMT

I think what was said about TUM and Outlander is if both lined up in Neptune Cooper would ride TUM. Think his housemate said that on final furlong pod.

Just feel no run for TUM after his setback or poor running lto is big negative. As is Shaneshill not been sighted since Dec
Report SEATHESTARS....NO1 February 18, 2015 6:45 PM GMT
Think gigg will run 2 in one 2 in other. Which ones anyone's guess. But thinking about that, looking at previous years, they don't actually run that many in the championship novice races, not as many as people might think anyway and certainly not anywhere near as many as they do in preps or at home in domestic grade ones

Tell Us More will run in the Supreme if he runs at all as Gigginstown have nothing else for it. They have a few for the Neptune. I watched back Tell Us More's Naas race and his hurdling was terrific. He didn't get up the hill at Naas which probably isn't a good omen for Cheltenham. The Scorpion thing is getting mentioned too but the shorter trip would be in his favour based on I what I saw in the Naas race. I could see him jumping and travelling very well and fading in the straight.

He has done a few nice bits of work since last week and I would say that he is a Neptune horse. Pedigree-wise he could go for the Albert Bartlett, but he has enough speed for the Supreme. He is good and he hasn’t done anything to suggest that he won’t be travelling.

He'll be cruising this horse right up until the bottom of the hill. Looks at his Naas run - he has an engine and he's electric away from his hurdles. He didn't find much off the bridle that day and much is made of his sire's record. Still though looks a good back to lay to me.

As well people put a lot of emphasis into what happens on Mullins gallops....how many times has a fancied one lost to a stablemate this season. Nichols Canyon beat Allez Colomberies (not a great example I know), McKinley beat Tell Us More, Nichols Canyon beat Alvisio Ville, Twinlight beat Ballycasey, Outlander beat Killutagh Vic, there's probably more.

They know as much as the rest of us ... and it would be no surprise to see Tell Us More to finish ahead of his 3 stablemates, DOuvan, Shaneshill or Alvisio Ville (who if I was JP McManus would be running in the Neptune)

The pre season Mullins hype this season has not worked out at all. They'd all been usurped for one reason or another. Tell Us More didn't go to plan for us, Shaneshill was the other early season Neptune fancy, he had Kalkir in the Triumph, Allez Colombieres was going to be the Supreme horse and Douvan was an afterthought.

You'd have some genius foresight to pick out Douvan, Nichols Canyon and Black Hercules as the big 3 Mullins favourites for the novice hurdles.

Also part of me is now wondering if Hercules is only favourite because we haven't seen him in ages. His early season reputation is in tact because he's never had a race. Shocked
