Can't remember a summer market like this for any Cheltenham Championship race. 11-1 the Field. Horses literally coming from all spheres:- failed this year, Novices, horses quoted at 33s who have achieved next to nothing.

horses don't often win the gold cup having been unsuccessful twice kev, is sir des champs slightly forgotten I wonder.

If I was given a free bet at the moment I might put it on Bobsworth. He didn't have a very good 13/14 season and might have had a problem. If they get him back to the previous years form he could still be the best around at the GC trip.

I think the only Sub-20/1 shot worth an Ante-Post thought at present is CUE CARD.
The right age, 8 rising 9. Immensely talented OR 172 RPR 180 Strong performer at Cheltenham Was unbelievable at Haydock last November. Was storming home again at Kempton in King George when the race turned on its head when he faltered. I am assuming some form of injury/illness manisfested itself in that race (virus mentioned to be in the yard, and stable form wasn't strong last season at 11% winners), and he wasn't seen again through the rest of the season. Nothing I can see in the favourites has the profile to outperform this gelding, and if he comes back well from his break then this could well be his year to be the Gold Cup winner. |

Would agree with above post Timeform have him on 180, few clear of anything else he would face in the Gold Cup. But did he leave the race behind last year, hard to see him not involved in this years race, the way it turned out.

If Mullins trained him for it, I think he'd get it. Like the Derby, if you're sure to get it, you're probably too slow. The horse that chased Brindisi Breeze up the hill, we'd have laughed if it was said he wouldn't get 26.5f at the time. Didn't fall in the RSA due to tiredness either I don't think. They've handled him tenderly in many of the races he has been beaten in since he came back and that can create a certain impression. Won't fail for lack of stamina to me.
Quick ground means Sir Des Champs for me still. Would have beaten Bobs Worth for me if he'd had it. |

I started backing Boston Bob 16/1 is a cracking price I think and must have a massive chance but im keeping a eye on Taquin De Seuil AP loves this horse and could step up into a leading contender taking in the King George along the way Hollywell as another off the t all doubled up with my Early Cheltenahm Banker Balder Success

I'd be interested in backing Taquin De Seuil. Has Jonjo been quoted as saying he's going to step the horse up to 3miles next season for the King George though?

Smad Place @ 25's would be the one for me at the moment. Good progressive second season novice who was unlucky not a win an RSA, and placed in two World Hurdles. 155 is a good mark for the Hennessey and then onwards and upwards.

I think Smad is a bit under rated (placed in three G1's at the festival), and didn't have the easiest prep last year. It would be good to see Alan King having a good one again as well. He was the one who I took out of the RSA as having the biggest future in staying chases anyway. Couldn't have any of this years runners winning it next year, so I'd have to look at last years novices and Boston Bob. |

Probably has mate. Have to admit that I've never rated him as hightly as some people, but it doesn't look a vintage one, so he has to have a chance if he's back from injury.
For me, Champagne Fever and Ballycasey would be better over the Ryanair distance, but Ricci has Djakadam as well for that. It will be like last years novice races all over again with those three! No idea what the record is like for Arkle runners in next years Gold Cup. Kicking King was second to the mighty Chief in the Arkle and won the Gold Cup the following year, and War of Attrition was unplaced in the Arkle and won the Gold Cup the following year, so not out of the question for Champagne Fever. |

huge buzz horse last year Djakadam was at preview nights. Thought about backing him for Gold cup on bacl of this. Youngster so could improve. I'm keen to know what they have got planned for Briar Hill.

I may be wrong, would not be the first or last time, but in my opinion, Champagne Fever, much as I like him, will not stay the GC trip in a month of sundays.

Well, one of us is wrong & I am quite happy for it to be me. The staying chase division could do with a new star and CF would be an immensely likeable and popular one.

I'd want to see Champagne Fever over 3m before I put my hand in my pocket to back him.
Similar with Al Ferof, what they called a stayer who both happened to win a good renewal of the Supreme each; but Al Ferof didn't stay anywhere near as well as they thought. I'd like to see Champagne stay 3m and add some class to the Gold Cup, but with Al Ferof memories fresh in the mind, I'd be a bit cautious at ths stage as an antepost proposition. |

Sorry for going off topic as well, but if they do aim Hurricane Fly at the WH, that's the wrong decision imo.
I wouldn't take him to Cheltenham again; I'd be in favour of retiring him. If he does stay in training, I think he should be kept in Ireland on his favourable soft ground, and if they do come over here, the Aintree Hurdle over 2.5 would be perfect, as he'd be nice and fresh against horses who'd just run in the Champion. The step up in trip worked for Solwhit, but that was his 26th race as a 9 year old, whereas it would probably be Hurricane's 40th race as an 11 year old. |

I'm a big Fever fan but I've got to think that others have worked out to get him beat - just don't think he's at his best when taken on for the lead.
