Nicky Henderson is on record as saying if My Tent Or Yours didn't win this year he'd go chasing, Vautour likely to be campaigned over further unless Un De Sceaux doesn't fulfil his potential at two miles, Jezki likely to go chasing, Hurricane Fly's finished, Our Conor sadly no longer with us, Faugheen going chasing...The New One could be miles ahead of anything that lines up for next year's race. The 5/1 about him is massive, if only because there'll be nothing to take him on.

the new one was desperately unlucky this year, to my cost !!!

totally agree that 5s is massive

Mine too; that soon paled into insignificance thought with the injury to Our Conor.

I doubt both Jezki and My Tent or Yours will go chasing given they finished first and second. I'd even be a small bit surprised if either of them do.

Vautour will go chasing no doubt about thay. Faugheen I wouldn't be so sure he will but he needs a trip I think. Mullins has to decide what he'll do with the likes of Un Atout and Pont Alexandre.

Tiger Roll probable chaser too but Guitar Pete might be an interesting hurdler next season.

Mccoy has already come out and said he was on the right one in the champion hurdle, albeit the wrong result. MTOY won't be going chasing next season.

Who was the last horse to win the Champion Hurdle and then go chasing the very next season?

I think Calipto will be a big improver for next season. He has only had 4 runs and loos very promising to me, though ofcourse he'll be just a 5yo.

Until mtoy's loses a CH after having settled well I'm going to have to keep supporting him, safe in the knowledge that he is the best horse in the field...and pray they sort him out.

he,s had 2 seasons to learn to settle will they risk a third????

well, the problem would be worse if he was chasing.

duffy, even if he settles better that is no guarantee of a win. It is a very overrated dynamic of racing. The assumption being it takes a load out of horses. We see plenty of horses win when they have been keen or failed to settle. Did you see how bad Lord Windermere was before the GC? Sweating and kicking out. MTOY was just beaten by the better horse and was lucky at Kempton.

MTOY is different class imo.
But he don't settle and that's vital to his chances of finishing the race well enough.
No doubt in my mind he would be the best around if he did settle.

It's funny how we see things so differently. If every horse ran to his best, there is no doubt in my mind TNO would win. Guessing what MTOY would do if he settled better is purely that.... A guess! I thought AP's comments were out of order tbh. He was beaten by a better horse. And the unluckiest horse finished 3rd.

I wouldn't back MTOY to beat either of them next year myself.

Mtoy would have won if ap wasn't on him

Sorry for stating the obvious. Only one horse from the 2013 Champion Hurdle turned up this year and he was probably too old to win it. Who knows who'll turn up next year...

It will be interesting what they do with Ricci's horses as they can not all go novice chasing next season.
Love to see Vautour kept to the hurdles.

Brandy. Think WPM has already confirmed he will go chasing.

I know what was said before the race but I don't see MTOY or Jezki going chasing now, those two and TNO will be the principles again next year

When: 18 Mar 14 13:45
Yes Can't Catch Me I did hear him say that.
Just think with all Ricci's horses that will be going chasing next year they've a lot of sorting to do.
They obviously like to try and keep the horses apart and give themselves the best opportunity to win as many races as possible, so something will have to stay over hurdles next season.

Jezki is the Champion Hurdler, so won't be going chasing. I'd be surprised if MTOY did too. It seems that Vautour is going chasing next season, but he seems such a good hurdler that I'd be tempted to have a go at the Champion. Un De Sceaux is the only other one of any interest (unless Faugheen stays hurdling).

I'm of the opinion that more should be made of MTOY's very high cruising speed. I'm not sure why McCoy wants to produce him at the last; he should be letting him go earlier and trying to get the rest at it before they hit the hill.

Whoops. Left out The New One. Could be a rematch of the three with UDS thrown in next season.

your all forgetting un de sceaux who in my opinion would have gone close this year doing exactly what jezki done in the race only for mr mullins trying to make it easier for hf
By:

When: 18 Mar 14 18:15
Would love to see UDS in it and bombing off from the front from a MTOY's point of view because it would ensure a very strong pace for much longer in the race and crucially would ensure that the rest of the field follow it.

Sint

I don't think it's overrated myself, if two people get from A to B but one does it in a controlled manner and the other does it whilst doing the hokey cokey along the wayGrin, one will be using up more than the other after they both get to where they're going.Silly

I agree howdi.

Anyone think they might drop Annie Power back to 2m for a crack at the Champion?

Very early days, but Faugheen is 30 on here, when he is 12's with the bookies, so this may not be the first choice (although 30 could look MASSIVE in March 2015).

Outside of Vautour and Faugheen, I can't see any novice from this year being in the mix, so that leaves the big three at the top of the market and UDS.

UDS's price is extremely skinny now compared to the big 3 at this stage, for what they've acheived so far.
By:

When: 18 Mar 14 21:54
Its a simple well known fact that pulling during a race will affect a horses chances of getting home in a race.

I would tend to agree with Duffy........had UDS been in the race,MTOY may well have beaten Jezki, although he may not have got to UDS!!!

Take nothing away from Jezki,he did nowt wrong and was a good winner, but MTOY weren't beaten far despite using up too much energy by not settling.

jezki will beat the tno and mtoy again at aintree !
By:

When: 18 Mar 14 23:41
^ interesting call, will Jezki not go for Punchestown G1 over 2m instead?

I'd fancy TNO to beat MTOY in the Aintree Hurdle - if the latter runs - but Annie Power would be a big threat (though I just wonder if she might have left her Aintree race behind after enduring a hard race in the World Hurdle).

I'm in the camp that TNO shapes like he would be even better over further and I hope they send him chasing - I doubt they'll do that though as he was close enough for connections still to be encouraged that he can win a Champion Hurdle.

He's a souped up zarkandar, who himself showed plenty of boot around wincanton once upon a time, just like melodic rendezvous did too around wincanton too earlier this year.

Against the proper speedsters both these two horses got outpaced at various points of the race, I thought TNO might end up being this years zarkandar (did say it on the champion hurdle thread way back in the early season tbf, mind you I also didn't think jezki could jump well enoughCrazy) and he proved to be just that, outpaced at a crucial point and then ran on after the initial kick.

TNO and AP would I imagine go to Aintree this year but I have always said TNO was a chaser and would expect him to go chasing next year.

I just think its bizarre for anyone to think that what MYOYs needs right now is a step up in trip in a slower run race.
Do you really think that could be the key to get him to settle?
Do you think Henderson & JP are seriously thinking down that line ?
