Evening all,
I really like Vigil for champion bumper, but at the moment is not entered. Does anyone know when final declarations/entries are/close?
Or if i can find any info re: dermot welds horses?

Cheers

Entries for the Bumper, Mares' Hurdle and Foxhunters close today, 25/2.

Like you Triple, I also think Vigil could win. Held up, he travelled really powerfully last time and came through to win easily. His 2nd to Cillian's Return, his first ever racecourse appearance, was full of promise especially as CR was a good 2nd to the current Fav, Black Hercules. Both these had racecourse experience though and I expect Vigil, who went off favourite against CR, to have the improvement to beat both. On a line through one of the beaten horses, Princely Conn, BH gave it 7lbs and beat it just over 6L. Vigil also gave it 7lbs and beat it 21L, which shows the improvement.
10s guaranteed & nrnb with 365 is a decent bet.

i too am a vigil backer, if he turns up obviously, bred to win a derby rather than a bumper, could be a class apart.
Report oufies pal February 25, 2014 12:44 PM GMT
I would be much more inclined to back him if he were bred to win a gold cup than a derby. NH breds have a  much better record in this serious test of stamina than flat breds.Trainer also has a woeful record at festival,no winner since Rare Holiday in the Triumph 24 years ago.Lots of fancied ones turned over since. Best of luck if punting him anyway.

Even the Wonderful Rite Of Passage came up short finishing third behind Dunguib.

i was on rite of passage - dunguib was an awesome performance, nothing would have beaten him that day.

Kevin O'Ryan has said Smullen thinks Windsor Park is the best of Welds. Wonder does Smullen ride it?

Anyone know who's training Cillian's Return and is he an intended runner? Recently bought by JP.

They wouldn't be missed. The guy couldn't train a dog to sit at Cheltenham these days.

Thanks for the post dej99.

Yeah, thanks but no thanks! Cry

Never been a player in the Bumper but really, really fancied Vigil this year and have backed accordingly. Keeping my fingers crossed he does make the gig. I think he's very good.

I heard that on TV today ( ATR ?) one of the Mullins boys was saying that only one of the two Wylie horses (Shaneshill and Black Hercules) will run and Vigil now a big doubt too...and the market showing that...lay out to 60 as I type for Vigil. Of the two Mullins/Wylie horses Shaneshill wants better ground so it's most likley to not run and it's drifting accordingly.

Might be a chance to snaffle a price on one of the others Wink
Report M13 February 27, 2014 7:28 PM GMT
This is how i have read it, Ahem...

Black Hercules wants softer ground than Shaneshill, Only one will run,so Patrick will ride the one that runs.

That leaves Ruby to ride Killultagh Vic (10s) and bag another Bumper. It won very easily lto.

Heres Hoping.

Yeh the market suggests Vigil may not make the trip over but hope I'm wrongCry

Money on here or Golantila and while he is entitled to come or the run I simply cannot have him reversing form with KV given the distance to make up in the short time btw that race and the festival. I can see Ruby riding KV and it going off close to fav on the day. Extremely taking performance with more to come slamming a horse previously placed in this race and will have the better jockey in the saddle come the day. What's not to like ?
Report The RealDeal February 27, 2014 9:17 PM GMT
I thought WPM was sending all four, Black Hercules, Shaneshill, Killultagh Vic & Westhorpe.

If so and Patrick gets to pick, then Ruby could be on any of the first three, probably not the last but who knows?
Report Mister Westsound February 27, 2014 9:45 PM GMT
Patrick Mullins said on an ATR interview that he didnt think Wyllie would run 2 in the race and Shaneshill would run on goodish ground with BH wanting soft. Same interview he also said he had heard the Weld horses were unlikely to come over. All this was on the ATR Irish Angle program this morning.
Report nostaw_01 February 28, 2014 10:28 AM GMT
Read this on the Irish Herald website on Monday.

"Mullins confirmed yesterday that he is likely to have four runners in the Champion Bumper as he looks for a ninth win in the race with Saturday's Fairyhouse victor Westhorpe also likely to make the line-up.

"He (Killultagh Vic) is on the ferry over, assuming he comes out of this alright, and Shaneshill and Black Hercules also and the more I think of it, the horse that won (Westhorpe) yesterday has to go and he'll have half-a-stone less at Cheltenham and better ground that he'd prefer and you'd be hoping he'd improve as well after his first run.""

I was pretty impressed with Westhorpe the other day, very green when idling in front but quite a lot of improvement in him. Very hard to judge bumper form so I would sooner take the longer odds on one of his and hope it's another Brair's Hill!!!!  Can still get 25/1 NRNB with B365.

Any flat jockeys riding in the race this year - Smullen might ride one of the Weld duo?
Report Giddy March 2, 2014 5:43 PM GMT
Definitly Red is best the of the English IMO. Form is being franked, and can see him in the mix,if he defo runs.
Gollings has stated he needs soft and may not run him on anything better. 25/1NRNB looks pretty big to me
