Well it's that time of year again when the quiz of the month begins with prizes handed out to all those that can guess the correct answer! .. er well it has to win the race as well but no problem we'll take that unnecessary risk as we all love a challenge as do the bookies in this case!
Come on down for the Willie Wontie 'Willie (expert hurdle trainer can't train a novice chaser to jump and out of novice chaser to stay in training longer than 2 minutes trainer) Mullins' 5-Dimensional Swingometer Cheltenham Festival Peter Snow Memorial Even Though He's Still Alive Bonanza Challenge!
I was going to come up with a snappier title but hey there is no hurry and I can always change my mind right at the last minute once my plans for the title have already been finalized!
The horse in question is Annie Power and we have a 5 dimensional Swingometer so 'Will(sh)ie Wont(sh)ie' go for the -
a) Mares Hurdle (1%)
b) World Hurdle (30%)
c) Champion Hurdle (30%)
d) Aintree Hurdle (30%)
e) None of the above (9%)
The factors are the owners opinion, the trainers opinion, the jockeys opinion, the bloke on the Betfair Cheltenham 2014 forum who starts an 'Open Letter to Mr Ricci' thread to appeal with a nonsensical pocket talking argument as he has £2 at 1000/1 for any of a) to d) races, journalist Dave Yates random argument generator on racing tv where 1000 words could be said in 10, the ground, the time of the month for Annie Power, whether the supermoon will coincide with the summer solstice, which favourite lucky hat Willie Mullins chooses for this years Festival, whether the jockey has analysed Big Bucks return and worked out to the pound where he will announce he will hit his flatspot to psyche out Nicholls, none of the aforesaid as it is easier to measure the paradoxical whereabouts of Schrodinger's Cat using Quantum Theory .. Swinging towards the world hurdle imo now the owner has left the decision to Willie. Obviously Ruby already favours that option as he gets three great rides.

He makes his mind up when he's ready and certainly not before he has to. Seems to make a hell of a lot of good decisions judging by his record. I wouldn't have him down as somebody who suffers from indecision. Anyway he's probably already decided AP will run in the world hurdle

Make sure to back him for every race to avoid disappointment and get Evs for him to win any of those races .. amazing value .. or you could wait until his target is declared by which time there will be no value left.

No..it's willie(will he) or wontie(won't he). It's a sort of Scottish pronunciation, so you must have nicked it from someone else. Next time i think the punters will run to the 'to win any race' with Hills. You'll know after Sunday. If Vautour runs well he will go supreme, Faugheen neptune and Briar Hill stayers race. If Ballycasey doesn't run in the Moriarty, i doubt he will go anywhere. If he runs well i think he will go for the 4 miler.

When was his last Gold Cup winner,not a top trainer of chasers in my book,over runs them and they always seem to have problems.

I don't know if he is the best trainer or not. What we do know is that many of jump racing's most wealthy patrons send their best/most expensve talent to him and this is a progressive trend - he probably has the most talented crop of horses now that he has ever had.

Spirit plenty of trainers have plenty of problems with horses but one only normally hears about the better horses (Big Bucks, Alferof, Sprinter Sacre, Simonsig, Denman, Imperial Commander, Weapons Amnesty, Solwhit, Tidal Bay, Finians Rainbow, Last Instalment, Binocular .......................................... etc etc etc)

He's not in the same parish as PFN when it comes to chasers. Of all the blue riband events, Champion Chases, Gold Cup, King George etc etc WPM has won 4 or 5 ? PFN has near 20 or so!

The problems he has,injuries aside,is his ability to get them jumping in my opinion,lots of top class novices come through his hands and they dont seem to make the grade.He is a very good trainer of hurdlers with all the good horses being sent to him.If I owned a chaser, I would not send it to mullins.

How many Gold Cups is it again? Hendo multiple champion hurdlers...how many Mullins had? World Hurdlers? Ryanairs? Arkles? Mullins looks far superior in Ireland cos there's no competition. No one can deny the brilliant records of both NJH and PFN but it is only in the last few years that WPM has had the numbers to compete with them. NJH still has a very strong crop and PFN no doubt will be back competing very soon (if he ever went away) but I can see WPM dominating over the next four to five years. I would be surprised if he is not leading trainer at the festival this year although the festival has a habit of surprising us most years. Other trainers have been relatively slow in running their NH horses in the top races in France and his campaigning of Blackstair Mountain in Japan last year tells us plenty.
