Crazy running Hinterland in QM when Al Ferof is in stable. Hinterland miles away from winning a QM surely?

Not sure if a bet for top trainer counts as ante post but I have just had £2 at 110 on Philip Hobbs. He may not win any of the championship races although stranger things have happened than Capt. Chris winning the Gold Cup. He is though in great form at present, has a good Cheltenham record and has several decent shots at handicaps, particularly Fingal Bay, If In Doubt and Balthazar King. The market is on number of wins and although it is hard to see past Mullins, Philip looks likely to be well in contention.

In the Dovecote, 2012 4yo winner Grumeti’s 3rd in the Triumph Hurdle is the only place effort to come from the last 9 runners to have gone on to Cheltenham the following month. 0 winners 1 place in last 9 years.

I think Nick Williams will win at least one and his donkey in the Cross Country is interesting. Not a speed machine and one run since last year. Looks like his missus has it and should make top 4 at around 6/1. Done a crazy ew trixie Zig at 100/1 Champion which should cut up more and place would be a good start, Sam at 16/1 RSA and Rocher 7/1 Triumph with VC.

I still think that Philip Hobbs is a crazy price for top trainer. Shame there is no market without Mullins as I would really steam in to that. Balthazar King, Fingal Bay, If In Doubt, Champagne West, Menorah ,Captain Chris, Garde La Victoire, Wishful Thinking, Colour Squadron, Persian Snow, Cheltenian all have realistic chances and a few others might step up in handicaps.

I'll know my fate for the day pretty early!

Bally, I'm sure that most horses that you bet ante post are shorter on the day but how many of them win and how many don't even run? Vautour and Holywell were no doubt big prices if you go back far enough but so were many of the horses behind them. I doubt if more than a handful got a double figure price Jezki, and they probably backed him on the day. My only early bets were Solwhit, Cue Card for the Ryanair and MTOY so that reflects my poor decision making.

I take advantage of NRFB and NRNB (preferably) on a lot of selections. There has been a good few this year that haven't ran and returned as promo cash for sure. More than normal but I just see it as losing a point as the ones that do run tend to end up being a hell of a lot shorter than when I backed them. For instance I'm sitting on the likes of

complete disaster so far for me... luckily have managed to trade out of a lot of my bets before the likes of Vautour and Faugheen did their respective demolition jobs. And complete blow out from withdrawal of Le Rocher the only thing i've go left is a Faugheen - Felix Yonger double at 24-1!

Thanks for the correction Budd. We all have different strategies and my ante post record-other than laying favourites before Xmas-is awful. I did get one result yesterday-stake refunded on Rocky Creek in the GC. I still think he would have been competitive but clearly Paul Nicholls disagrees.

Philip does have good shots at each of the County and the Martin Pipe plus 2 outside chances in the Albert Bartlett.

Better day on Day 4 but overall a frustrating Festival with many 2nds and 3rds. Still a good profit made with nice winners at 11-4, 11.5, 8-1, 16-1, 25-1 and 7-1 but disappointed to be honest. Roll on next year starting with Taquin Du Seuil at 25-1 in the Gold Cup lol...
