Is it restricted to a monkey back on each race - i.e. if you back 4 horses for £50 in the Arkle and they all don't run you only get back £50?

If soemone can post a link to the t&c's I'd be grateful.

Didn't take advantage of this VC offer last year but having had a look at the races that are available there do seem to be some fair long range bets given you get £50 back as free bet if it's a non runner (£100 max per race). Full T&C's above.

My opening £50 win bet is Chatterbox @ 25/1 for the Jewson.

Chatterbox was a very decent, if unflashy novice hurdler who was only 8/1 for a very strong Neptune last year. Henderson had been saying all season that he would miss Cheltenham (similar to when Sprinter Sacre was a novice hurdler) but in the end the temptation to run ws too much. He only finished 4th but made umpteen little mistakes as Gerraghty had him in last place on the inside and to my eyes he was getting unsighted at his hurdles as those in front took off just before him - something which is a particular bugbear of mine. He was also impeded on the home turn.

Although he's won his novice hurdles over 2m I don't see him as an Srkle type, and equally he's not an obvious RSA type.
He has been compared very favourably to Bobs Worth by Henderson:
Henderson said: "He doesn't do anything spectacular at home, but he's very good when he goes on a racecourse. He's so like Bobs Worth it's untrue."

Given his connections and obvious potential he could esily be favourite on the day - if he doesn't take to chasing or goes elsewhere I still get my stake back on the day. Whats not to like.Grin

i think it was running on empty in the sun alliance so it certainly wont win a gold cup never mind a grand national !
Report sintonian September 9, 2013 11:52 AM BST
was running on empty because the jockey used up his energy quickening around the bend. Almost certainly contributed to his fall. That said, I'd want 40/1 for the GC and looking at his handicap rating the GC will not be the main target this season i'd say.
Report Swagger September 9, 2013 11:26 PM BST
I think Bobs Worth will win it back to back but I agree with the original poster, Boston Bob is the only horse I could see beating him. People forget that Boston Bob wasn't really right at all last season and which is why Ruby chose the wrong horse for the RSA. But given another summer on his back, he must have a chance of progressing this season and if Ruby rides him then he could finally fulfil his potential. But I would give him next to no chance with Paul Townend on his back, brainless ride at the festival, as Sintonian says he was needlessly rushed up via the car park through a panic type manoeuvre. I don't understand how people can say the horse has no chance in the Gold Cup, realistically I can't see why any horse Bobs Worth beat last season would reverse form, the RSA winner I think got lucky on the day and for me doesn't look the type to progress (Boston's Angel type to me), I don't think S Conti properly stays the trip at Cheltenham which doesn't really leave much else.
Report buddeliea September 10, 2013 1:37 PM BST
Well we have Sir Des Champs who weren't far behind Bobsworth, and we have Al Ferof hopefully,SConti was running a big race and Boston Bob will be improving I should think.
I too think Bob could well win again, but hes got some real threats imo.

Older & stronger this year. Perfect for Gold Cup. Wouldn't have won last year so stand by that the Ryanair was the right race but was evidently one paced in 2nd. Now it has to be the Gold Cup.
Report sintonian October 8, 2013 7:39 PM BST
LOL.

He was in the wrong race due to owner politics, something his backers AND trainer said all along. He will be 9 next March. The only improvement he has to come is mentally via experience.

16/1 is a fair price, again.

Report sintonian November 28, 2013 5:00 PM GMT
Nope, thought he would have had entries in the Hennessy and John Durkan but none. Really hope he has not had a set-back.

If you have a Racing Post account you can send them a question to put forward to Willie in his Saturday column for the paper. I would do it but I don't subscribe.

Report sintonian November 29, 2013 10:30 AM GMT
Given he had no entries in the Hennessy or Durkan, which I thought was strange, I am wondering if they may be aiming him at the Grand National like they tried with the owners Prince De Beauchene a couple of years, and that he won't run in a chase until after the weights are published. Just a thought...

Things like £50 max per horse and if one backs the same horse twice its the first bet made which counts. Also £100 max per race and as far as I remember its £500 refund in total. One needs to check them rayher than relying on my memory. Tbf a good deal enough.

They are saying he has had muscle problems, so that rules out making any ante-post bets for the festival on him. If he's as good as he was/promised to be then he could be a real danger to Big Bucks.

Report ReaseHeath December 3, 2013 3:10 PM GMT
if Big Bucks comes back as good as he was (big if admittedly but vibes from connections are promising) then I struggle to see Boston Bob troubling him, he could n't peg back Brindisi Breeze in the Albert Bartlett 2 years ago.

World Hurdle looks like it could be a very hot race - Solwhit, Celestial Halo, At Fishers Cross, Rule The World (though he'd have to show better form than at the weekend admittedly).

Also been mentioned as a potential target for Melodic Rendezvous and then you've got Zarkander (though they might wait for Aintree). Not beyond the bounds of possiblity that Annie Power will end up in the race either.

Some of those will fall by the wayside but still think it's likely to be a big ask for Boston Bob.
Report duffy December 3, 2013 3:51 PM GMT
Solwhit for me, unlike a few of past BB challengers here we have a top class 2 miler who stays 3 miles very well, I'm surprised he's not shorter and receiving more support.

I know there's a general concensus that we've heard it all before about this such and such horse will give BB something to do and in the end, BB sees them off, but this really is different, solwhit was a top class 2 miler who has proven he stays the trip well, his starting point is far higher than grands crus, vlv and co!.

yep, fair enough sint - have to confess Boston Bob is one of those horses I've never really warmed to because of all the hype (not the horse's fault admittedly!)Just don't think he's achieved much for a horse that turns 9 in less than a month.

I loved Brindisi Breeze, as much for his performance at Haydock as the Albert Bartlett - what happened to him was desperate, what happened to his jockey was absolutely tragic.

Some useful animals were trounced in that Haydock race.

Won @ 8/11 Mullins was pleased enough with "a nice performance" from the winner.

"He hasn't been doing that at home on the gallops and I didn't expect anything like that," he said.

"Mourad ran poor and coming here I wouldn't have been surprised if this lad had done the same. The owner (Graham Wylie) is keen to go for the World Hurdle.

"Whether that's a World Hurdle performance or not I don't know, but we may go along that route.

"If we're thinking of going that way then the Cleeve Hurdle (next month) could be a possibility at Cheltenham."Mullins said: "That was a nice performance. He hasn't been doing that at home on the gallops and I didn't expect anything like that.

"Mourad ran poor and coming here I wouldn't have been surprised if this lad had done the same. The owner (Graham Wylie) is keen to go for the World Hurdle."

Report sintonian January 6, 2014 10:27 AM GMT
Cheers Foolsgold. But I don't see how they could have been surprised. The horse in 2nd is rated 135, BB is 151 over hurdles and 154 over fences, and he was receiving 8lb. I'd be worried if he did not win like he did tbh. That said, it was as nice a return to hurdles as you could wish to see and he should be winning again. He is in my TTF list and I still retain a lot of faith in him.

So long as the horse is fit, well and in good form Foyles then I guess it can be done. But we can only guess as to how the training would differ. The Gold Cup doesn't really strike me as a race you can suddenly decide to aim at?!

Report sintonian January 23, 2014 3:40 PM GMT
Agreed. Boston Bob is race fit and receives 4lb, too. It's his big chance. Has to be backed as he is an eachway bet to nothing imo. You can look at his rating and think he has a lot to find, but the fact is this is only his 2nd run out of novice company, so it's pretty likely it will improve.
Report shockster January 23, 2014 4:00 PM GMT
Only thing I would say is that Un Beau Matin(134) ran to his mark today if you work it out with Mala Beach and Boston Bob was getting 8lb from Un Beau Matin when they met.  Therefore needs a lot of improvement to get to 160ish which he'll need against some of these.
