Given he had no entries in the Hennessy or Durkan, which I thought was strange, I am wondering if they may be aiming him at the Grand National like they tried with the owners Prince De Beauchene a couple of years, and that he won't run in a chase until after the weights are published. Just a thought...

How do you mean Arkle?

Things like £50 max per horse and if one backs the same horse twice its the first bet made which counts. Also £100 max per race and as far as I remember its £500 refund in total. One needs to check them rayher than relying on my memory. Tbf a good deal enough.

Has an entry in the Lexus Chase. Trainer has said he will be entered in both hurdles and chases over the xmas period, fwiw. Recent update given to Irish press.

Back over hurdles with World Hurdle being the aim by the looks of things

Wowzer. Interesting.
By:
They are saying he has had muscle problems, so that rules out making any ante-post bets for the festival on him. If he's as good as he was/promised to be then he could be a real danger to Big Bucks.
By:
That's the Mullins effect. The horse should have been a very good chaser, now he's back over the hurdles.
By:
He's the new mikhail d'hagueneut!
By:
if Big Bucks comes back as good as he was (big if admittedly but vibes from connections are promising) then I struggle to see Boston Bob troubling him, he could n't peg back Brindisi Breeze in the Albert Bartlett 2 years ago.
World Hurdle looks like it could be a very hot race - Solwhit, Celestial Halo, At Fishers Cross, Rule The World (though he'd have to show better form than at the weekend admittedly). Also been mentioned as a potential target for Melodic Rendezvous and then you've got Zarkander (though they might wait for Aintree). Not beyond the bounds of possiblity that Annie Power will end up in the race either. Some of those will fall by the wayside but still think it's likely to be a big ask for Boston Bob. |
By:
Solwhit for me, unlike a few of past BB challengers here we have a top class 2 miler who stays 3 miles very well, I'm surprised he's not shorter and receiving more support.
I know there's a general concensus that we've heard it all before about this such and such horse will give BB something to do and in the end, BB sees them off, but this really is different, solwhit was a top class 2 miler who has proven he stays the trip well, his starting point is far higher than grands crus, vlv and co!. |
By:
why back over hurdles ? has his fencing not improved at home ? tidal bay staying over fences ?
By:
Noone knows how good Brindisi Breeze could have been, Rease.
By:
not happy at all about this.
By:
yep, fair enough sint - have to confess Boston Bob is one of those horses I've never really warmed to because of all the hype (not the horse's fault admittedly!)Just don't think he's achieved much for a horse that turns 9 in less than a month.
I loved Brindisi Breeze, as much for his performance at Haydock as the Albert Bartlett - what happened to him was desperate, what happened to his jockey was absolutely tragic. Some useful animals were trounced in that Haydock race. going a bit off topic, apologies. |

Did anyone catch the interview with Willie on Irishnews.tv ? I only caught the end of it where he said the owner was keen to go down the world hurdle route but then he referred to it as Plan B?
By:
yes saw most of that interview and its hurdles for BB this year
By:
did you not see him talking about the novice hurdlers then sint earlier on?
By:
Do you mind sharing what he said Alleged regarding the novice hurdlers? Thanks
By:
wish id taped it now as willie talks in riddles most the time
By:
but the impression I got was MP is the supreme horse, faugheen was the AB horse but is showing lots of speed will be dropped in trip next time and maybe the Neptune is right race, briar hill was the Neptune horse but might be the AB horse

By:
Cheers and WPM being really helpful there!! Faugheen does appear to have stamina and gears which would make you think Neptune but who knows!
By:
I only caught the bit about BB, Alleged, and just wanted to double check things. Cheers.
By:
Anyone know where I could find a link to the interview? Ta

He should be winning tomorrow shouldn't he??

With SDC now out of the Gold Cup, will they reconsider a Gold Cup challenge with Bob?
By:
I've gone in again with bet.365 25/1 nrnb. I think ruby and willie were surprised on how well he won last time out and will Annie power looking like world hurdle and sdc out I would let him take his chance in the gold cup plus he's huge he's built like a chaser!

By:
How could they have been surprised. He was massively favoured at the weights in that race, beat very little of class there. And I say that as a big fan of the horse.
By:
forgive me for my ignorance but if a horse is being trainer for the world hurdle i.e 3m+ over timber ,what would be the interruption in the training regime/preparation to suddenly switch targets to say 3m+ over fences i.e gold cup, would the transition be much different from hurdles to fences ? ,I assume he would be schooling over hurdles at home, would the training set up be much different from hurdles to fences ?
By:
Not really sure myself, Foyles. I guess the schooling would just be different obstacles. Paul Nichols was going to switch Tidal Bay to the World Hurdle AFTER he won the Lexus Chase. But he got injured.
By:
yeah sint suppose it would not be an ideal situation training a horse for a certain race and then switching targets halfway ,youd imagine youd want everything running smoothly going into the festival ,not an ideal preparation imo ,I would sy he will go world hurdle ?

Won @ 8/11 Mullins was pleased enough with "a nice performance" from the winner.
"He hasn't been doing that at home on the gallops and I didn't expect anything like that," he said. "Mourad ran poor and coming here I wouldn't have been surprised if this lad had done the same. The owner (Graham Wylie) is keen to go for the World Hurdle. "Whether that's a World Hurdle performance or not I don't know, but we may go along that route. "If we're thinking of going that way then the Cleeve Hurdle (next month) could be a possibility at Cheltenham."Mullins said: "That was a nice performance. He hasn't been doing that at home on the gallops and I didn't expect anything like that. "Mourad ran poor and coming here I wouldn't have been surprised if this lad had done the same. The Gold Cup it is then!

Cheers Foolsgold. But I don't see how they could have been surprised. The horse in 2nd is rated 135, BB is 151 over hurdles and 154 over fences, and he was receiving 8lb. I'd be worried if he did not win like he did tbh. That said, it was as nice a return to hurdles as you could wish to see and he should be winning again. He is in my TTF list and I still retain a lot of faith in him.
So long as the horse is fit, well and in good form Foyles then I guess it can be done. But we can only guess as to how the training would differ. The Gold Cup doesn't really strike me as a race you can suddenly decide to aim at?! |
By:
Not jumped a fence this season and signed off with 2 FFs late last year. 25/1 is poor
By:
Boston Bob NRNB for the Gold Cup is grand but the World Hurdle is the plan for both owner & trainer. SDC not running has no bearing on Boston Bob's plans.
By:
It does m8,Mullins will want a rep in the GC.
For me me tho,Boston Bob and Briar Hill look like they need 6 miles on soft ground. |
By:
What he wants and what is realistic are two different things. It depends on what they feel will best suit the horse.
