I always feel horses who displayed lots of ability as young horses but who've maybe lost their way a little bit are worth a second glance. Tataniano could be one such horse.
If I remember correctly for a period during the winter of 2009, he was the ante-post favourite for the following season's Arkle. He ended up missing Cheltenham but did go to Aintree to win the Maghull novices' chase in impressive fashion. He was touted as a future Champion Chase winner all those years ago.
He only ran twice the following season finishing third in a graduation chase and fifth when favourite for the Celebration chase at Sandown. He's never recaptured the form of his novice days but did manage to win at the start of this season before disappointing twice.
He moved stables at Christmas (from Nicholls to Richard Rowe) probably in the hope that a new environment might spark him into life again. It's worth bearing in mind that Rowe managed to get a few wins out of another former Nicholls inmate Tatenen after he left the champion trainer's yard.
The figures from Tataniano's early days are encouraging. He has a record of 4113 at Cheltenham and has always run best when fresh. He is comfortable on most types of ground.
The thing about this season's QMCC is that it's almost a foregone conclusion but if those behind Sprinter Sacre in the betting decide to go toe to toe with him it could pave the way for an outsider to come through and grab a place. On top of that this is the QMCC and the likes of Moscow Flyer, Azertyuiop, Well Chief and Master Minded great and all as they were, made terrible mistakes when favourites for this race that either ended up in them on the deck or ruining their chance. Not saying that will happen to Sprinter Sacre but the possibility is always there and the risk is increased by the speed they're going.
Tataniano in all likelihood is as his price suggests a no hoper but many will be searching for e/w alternative to the favourite and at 100/1, you can back this one and keep your stake small.

Prefers good ground but can run on soft gd to soft was well beaten on two starts this season but giving loads of weight was a very slick jumper in his day small stake punt worth it imo
Good luck SYT, on at 200's here, and a few quid at 100's ew with Vetbic. Did the same with Wishfull Thinking a few months back, up to 210's here, and a few quid at 50's ew.
More than likely lose, but with SS looking unbeatable, only takes a few quid to have an interest at what's going on behind.

I think he preferred good ground back in the day but he's shown form on soft too. Probably better the drier the ground is though.
