When Denman got beat by Nicanor in 2006, his trainer offered the following:
"There was enormous pressure going into the race, but we'd done all we could with him and he ran a cracker. However, I'd have to say that two weeks after the Festival, he was better than he was at the Festival.
"He's a chestnut, and they are notoriously slow to come in their coats. All of ours were behind the rest of the string, and I think if you look at the results, you'll find that not one chestnut won at Cheltenham."
Does anyone think this holds any water at all? It's going to be pretty chilly at Cheltenham by the sounds of it.........

Chestnut horses are thought to have a more sensitive skin (I don't know if this has been proven).
Maybe they do come into their coats later.

Thinner horses and those with a less robust constitution are less likely to thrive in cold weather possibly as well.
I'd have thought chestnuts were just what you needed on a cold day.

I'm sure it was really warm when Denman won his Lexuses and Henesseys
The horses only start to come in their coats usually when the warmer spring weather comes,which so far hasn't happened.
Many a one roasted on an open fire lately. Not only chestnuts but also greys, bays and blacks.
im a believer....seems like im a minority but thats not a problem..
