Who do you think Paddy Power will take on with their big opening day bet for the festival?
Got to be simonsig or the fly for me, as I can't see him taking on quevega. Supreme has no very short favourite but could my tent or yours be picked?

Im think paddy is not going to take any of the shorties on the opening day..will probably just be money back if your horse finishes second to MTOY
Report ReaseHeath February 9, 2013 10:38 PM GMT
Simonsig surely - won't be Quevega 'cos race is too late in the day and not high profile enough. H Fly is deserving favourite but the CH is sufficiently competitive for there to be plenty of money for other horses.

Overturn represents a bigger threat to Simonsig than any of the challengers to Sprinter Sacre last year - imo, of course.
Report dj876 February 9, 2013 10:40 PM GMT
They will definitely be doing this special.2012-Sprinter sacre,2011-Cue Card.2010-Dunguib,2009-Cousin Vinny.
Only did the Arkle last year because supreme was so open,I'd imagine it will be back to supreme this year as long as MTOY runs in it.

Will always be an early race first day gives them plenty of time to get the money back especially if they can get new customers to join up. Has to be a high profile race. The supreme is very often a bookies race so can see them go for either Jezki or MTOY.

MTOY if he runs in the Supreme, Simonsig in the Arkle if not

keen leader 27 Jan 13 21:33......final thoughts on the last 2 days.

12 months ago, Irish Champion Hurdle day was run in appalling conditions, much the same this time.....not ONE festival winner came of the card 12 months ago, despite H.Fly and Boston Bob winning easily....I believe winning Grade 1s in horrible conditions takes a lot out of horses and they may not recover in time for the Festival and they may run flat.

I will boldly predict, that NOT ONE horse you saw running on Sunday (HF won again btw along with Pont Alexandre, Blackmail & Rupert Lamb) will win at the Festival....the only danger to that statement might be something like Toner D, who Elliott could be preparing for a handicap chase, with his prospects determined by whatever uk chase mark he gets.

The most likely festival winner you saw over the weekend remains Reve De Sivola in a very weak division, believe it or not, history proves that it takes real stamina to stay in a fast run 3 mile race, so on better ground I would expect Reve to finish a long way ahead of Oscar Whiskey.

IF, going by the above then they should take on The FLY.

First race Mtoy, they know un atout will hack up!
Report Ming_the_Merciless February 14, 2013 12:47 PM GMT
It has got to be a headliner and it's between MTOY or Simonsig..... the latter would be headline grabber and they have a Champion Hurdle 2nd running for them with Overturn depending on the offer....  but you would have to say the Arkle lacks depth so I'd say MTOY.
Report dj876 February 14, 2013 3:52 PM GMT
I can't recall when PP announce which race they are potentially refunding on??

If MTOY target isn't declared for the supreme/champion till close to the time, they could avoid it and go for the Arkle ,so they can spin their PR for longer leading up to the festival.

Is that a personal deal you've got with them cos its garbage. Not on the site.
Report dj876 February 14, 2013 8:59 PM GMT
It was on their site earlier today(seems to have been removed)although I don't see the relevance to this thread.
Report dj876 February 14, 2013 9:21 PM GMT
apologies cmiyc ,so it's HF,I didn't see it in the middle of all the other specials
Report Catch Me ifyoucan February 15, 2013 12:55 AM GMT
I tink it will be HF
Report Arklearkle February 18, 2013 2:19 PM GMT
I reckon now that it will be MTOY
Report Graeme83 February 18, 2013 2:22 PM GMT
If they take on MTOY, then this means that they are less likely to lose alot of cash on the horse if it wins because many people will be looking to back something else to take up the offer. I have my suspicions with regard to how generous this so called offer is.
Report Ballydoyle February 18, 2013 4:40 PM GMT
Who cares? If you can get more than a tenner on with this joke firm then you're definitely losing money.

Scumbag of a firm. Agreed.

We'll REFUND ALL LOSING BETS on the Champion Hurdle *=* IF *=* HURRICANE FLY WINS.

i.e.
He will NOT win, so PP will NOT refund anything !
Report Graeme83 February 28, 2013 1:50 PM GMT
But if he does win, then they are saving money on the people who would have backed HF, but chose another horse because of the offer. Alot of Irish would have hammered that down, but will instead now back something else with them. Bookies are quick to tell you what they lose, and not what they saved.
