Does anyone know whether ALBERTUS Run will be aimed for the ryanair or whether he will run this year?

Jonjo O'Neill will give Albertas Run just one run at the most ahead of a return visit to the Cheltenham Festival.

Albertas Run would have made his seasonal debut in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon earlier this month but the meeting was called off.

Although that race has been switched to Kempton over Christmas, O'Neill never considered entering him there.

The Jackdaws Castle will look at races he has competed in previously such as the Amlin Chase and Betfair Ascot Chase as possible prep runs ahead of Cheltenham.

"I didn't even enter him for the Peterborough at Kempton," said O'Neill.

"I had a talk to Trevor (Hemmings, owner) and we didn't want to rip the guts out of him.

"He's getting idle in his old age and is desperate for a run, but we might give him a racecourse gallop and then take him to one of the races at Ascot early next year.

"That's as long as the ground is suitable, if not he'll go straight to Cheltenham."

Albertas Run has appeared at the last five Cheltenham Festivals, winning the Royal & SunAlliance Chase in 2008 and the Ryanair Chase in both 2010 and 2011 as well as finishing second in that this year and unplaced in the 2009 Gold Cup.

He's in the Irish Hennessey, but will be very surprised if he runs in that.

He's a big price, but there may be a few with younger legs that have too much speed for him.  Good ground is crucial for him though, and if we get that then you can't rule him out.

Very unlucky loser last year, due to BJG giving the ride of the festival.

Interesting comment about Jonjo straight as a die that geezer.

Hopefully that comment about Jonjo was meant to be ironic!

Not heard anything to the contrary,so i presume the ground is the reason he dont run tomorrow.
Certainly hope so,backed him again for HIS race, and if hes fit enough on the day hopefully he will run another big race.
Looks like they wont get a race into him now,but he ran last March after a long lay off.

Jonjo in RP today:

'He'll definitely go there if the weather stays like this. He was wrong earlier in the season but the only reason he has n't run lately is the ground.I'd have liked to have got a run into him beforehand but I'm happy with him and he went there without a (recent) run last year and only just got beaten. It's a hot race but he's got a great record and it's always been the plan'.

Bit below is me!!

He was absolutely brilliant in defeat last year and it's getting to the point where he's the horse I'm looking forward to seeing most at the festival. If the ground goes against him we can get him in the Melling Chase at Aintree.

yes it will be an absolute pleasure to see him strut his stuff at Prestbury!

Indeed it will and possibly for the last time.Sad

Hes been great over the years at the festival, cracking record and a proper festival horse.
Decent ground he could well run another big one.

sure he will run well and give a great sight

Who was the horse in the racecourse gallop with Albertas Run?
Report Fallen Angel February 26, 2013 12:16 PM GMT
yeah I am on at 20s. I think he will be much shorter on the day and the race could easily cut up as a contest between now and then. I am hopefull he can run a place at a minimum and may trade much shorter in the run even if it might prove too much for him overall. His form on G/S ground and at cheltenham is rock solid.

All seems to be going fine for Albertas.
Another big run i reckon.
