Flemenstar owner bullish about Hennessy bid

FLEMENSTAR warmed up for the Hennessy Gold Cup by paddling in the sea on Wednesday, after which owner Stephen Curran insisted nothing can beat him in Saturday's Grade 1 test.

The bookmakers are unable to split Flemenstar and Sir Des Champs in the Leopardstown contest, while the main challenge to the big two appeared to melt away yesterday when Bog Warrior was declared a doubtful runner.
But Curran takes a different view to the layers about his eight-year-old, who has twice finished in front of Cheltenham Gold Cup second favourite Sir Des Champs this season and will be fitted with earplugs before the race in a bid to keep him calm.

After working on the Curragh's all-weather gallop on Tuesday, Flemenstar took a recovery trip to Gormanston beach in County Meath.

Curran said: "We're hoping for a huge run on Saturday and I can't see anything beating him. That's my honest opinion. He's in tremendous form."

The owner, who had joined trainer Peter Casey to watch Flemenstar's gallop on Tuesday, added: "He didn't do too much at the Curragh - he did his real work last week. All we need now is a bit of luck."
