I think this is the first year that I haven't doubled everything up with Bucksy, so dodged the bullet there.
Smashes the World Hurdle wide open.

same here budd 85s and a lot of 80s gold cup , still only money , hope the horses make good recovery , losing crystal bonus was a blow for nicholls and connections on sat.

I echo that Wellchief. I think this may make the decision for NJH (the vibes have been suggested a 2nd crack at BB anyway). I think Peddlars Cross may prove the more formidable stayer, if he returns in good health.
Whatever the case, this is bad news. Big Bucks the best horse in training IMO (either code) for some yrs so this is awful. Lets hope its not so bad and both return sooner rather than later.

Well World Hurdle becomes a completely different race with no BB,gonna affect a few horses if he dont make it.
As for OW,it will probably depend on the ground,if its decent they might be tempted to have another go,if its soft he would have another go at the CH i reckon.

Once again, the first run of the season is the one that exposes any weakness in a horses legs. It is very sad but all too common that the best NH horses end up with tendon trouble. Human athletes are no different. The faster you run the more likely you are to get injured.

Yep, World Hurdle could now turn into a hell of a race.
Possibly Oscar, Peddlers, 1000 Stars and if they ever wanted Quevega to win a proper race at the festival, then this is it.

I think OW and Thousand Stars definitely paid the price trying to put it up to Big Bucks this year given how the other two placed horses where ridden. I was shocked to see Thousand Stars toiling and seeminly looking a non stayer since he seems to stay further when ran in France. Can't think off the top of my head any up and coming 3m hurdlers from last year.

Similar to the Kauto issue last year, this once again shows how good the Nicholls staff are imo.
No big drift on Big Bucks, no stable staff or insiders mopping up all the money as far as I can see.
If BB or Al Ferof were in certain other yards, they would have cleaned up!

I agree (again) WC. Nicholls should have been more open after Kauto's fall, but at least his price was stable and (I think) not subject to gross profiteering.

awful news, feel so sorry for all of the connections. Had both in my Ten to Follow and was in top 250 so there that goes, and really fancied Al Ferof for the KG. Had £15 @ 40's - was really excited for Boxing Day with that little bet.
Just hope they both make it back safe and sound and credit to Nicholls for getting the news out so quickly.

My opinion on PFN could not have changed more over the last week.
Having been annoyed at his petulance over Kauto, to respect over his humilty on Saturday interview, to admiration of his undoubted training ability and now sadness to this crushing blow following on from Cristal Bonus.
Like others have said, also says a lot about the stable that news came out before the betfair markets knew.
Wishing connections all the best

Gutted for the loss of both horses especially Big Bucks especially in a year without Kauto and the retirement of Frankel, racing needs these superstar horses. Al Ferof will certainly be missed this season and hurts PN chances of retaining the trainers championship.
Just really hope we see BB back in training!

feel bad for connections - thought Bucksy was bombproof - not normally one or conspiracy theories but does seem strange beyond coincidence that arguably the two highest profile horses in the stable were both found to have a problem at the same evening stables.
More to follow no doubt.

reading the owner quotes on RP site, I'd be very careful about the World Hurdle, 'tiny tear, unlikely, probably, let nature take it's course, G1 in three months not my style'
Al Ferof looks more definitive for this season unfortunately.
Looks like it is just a horrible coincidence, so sad after events of last week and Cristal Bonus.

Heartfelt sympathies to connections of both horses. Devastating news for them but also for us enthusiasts, fo whom the top horses provide such entertainment. The remainder of our season will be the poorer for their absence.

Really thought Al Ferof was gonna be one of the stars of the season, was coming round to him winning the KG and lining up in the Gold Cup with a big chance. Just hope he can have another go next season.

Ffs. I read this at half 2 this morning when a little worse for wear, I hoped when I woke up this morning that I'd dreamt it or something! At least Nicholls has said both will be back. And trying to look at it as positively as possible, regaining his World Hurdle crown at 11 could be Big Bucks biggest challenge yet.
Al Ferof is still young so hopefully he will get his chance to run in the top races again. A shame for this years King George mind as its wide open and he probably would have gone very close
