DJ i'm not saying he can't get them to jump well in a single race. It's a consistancy issue. Too many of his chasers are finding problems. Sir des Champs looked good at his jumping, then in the Lexus he couldn't jump for peanuts. It happens all too often, and something the punter should consider.

Graeame ,have you watched much racing over the last 18 years??

To compare Willie Mullins(23 festival winners, duel Grand national winner)to Howard Johnson is the biggest cr@p I have read on any forum.

No, i haven't watched racing for 18 years. I've been watching for about 5/6 years. In this time i've noticed that Mullins has had issues with the consistancy of his best chasers jumping. I have mentioned horses in this time who have all had issues jumping. The Howard Johnson bit was sarcasm, as he has taken criticism in heinsight because of Tidal Bay. I'm going on facts from what i've saw in my time, and i couldn't give a damn what he done all those years ago. I guarantee you Boston Bob will start hitting them. I'be backed a couple of his, but him training them is a factor. I'd feel more assured if someone else was training them, hurdlers excluded.

You are on your own in that respect Graeme. So please don't hijack the boston bob thread with this. I'd be helpful if this thread was about the horse.

No problems CVB. I'll start my own topic on the subject.

Graeame any stats/FACTS to back up your claims??

Last 3 seasons Willie Mullins chaser only,335 runners=84 winners=25.1% strike rate.

Aye, Graeme. Happy

Just to say that after seeing part of an interview with Patrick Mullins a few minutes ago on ATR, seems sure that BIF will not go for 4 miler and that his ride will be Vesper Bell as you suggested CVB.

Boston Bob not even quoted on here for Jewson - I'm going to ask
By:

When: 04 Jan 13 21:01
BB will not go Jeweson Roobuck. I'm 10000000000% certain bout that. He would be off the bridle after the 2nd fence. He's an out and out stayer.

BiF and BB will both run in RSA. Willie has great record in the race.

Aupcharlie goes for Jeweson.
By:

When: 04 Jan 13 21:04
I would agree with CV about BB being outpaced in the Jewson,I wouldn't be surprised if BIF didn't run in any race at the festival unless the ground is soft.
By:
roobuck
When: 04 Jan 13 21:05
Yes you are probably right. But to my mind it won't be the worst risk of a few quid if silly odds are quoted.

Unfortunately you are also probably right about Aupcharlie which is a shame as I have him at 25s for RSA. Just hoping that the Potts prefer to go for a Grade 1 and as I understand it, they are quite opinionated owners?
By:
roobuck
When: 04 Jan 13 21:08
But as he has yet to win over 3 miles, why you are so sure he'd be outpaced? Genuine question btw
By:
CVByrne
When: 04 Jan 13 21:11
Potts have You Must Know Me for RSA so Aupcharlie will defo go Jeweson.

Wylie is happy to let Mullins Decide where his horses run and Mullins usually double handed in RSA most years.

Last year he wanted SDC in RSA and CTP in Jeweson but Giggy overruled him due to FL.
By:

When: 04 Jan 13 21:14
Mullins usually runs his horses over 2m4f or shorter distance at the beginning as with the heavy ground and all they learn to jump at a faster speed, speeds they'll need to jump when over 3m at the festival on better ground. Also in Ireland most of the quality races are over 2m4f or shorter in the early art of the season. The only Grade 1 over 3m is at Lepardstown festival which BiF won.

Boston Bob has never run over shorter than 2m4f which is very rare as most horses will have a 2m hurdle run at some point. Also in the AB at last years festival he stayed on to the bitter end. He's a total stayer.
By:
roobuck
When: 04 Jan 13 21:23
Thanks that's interesting. Not paying too much attention to AB as don't think the horse was 100% like a few of Mullins that week.

Again you may be right about Potts' horses but YMKM was lame after last race. Don't know how serious it is but will he make festival. Anyway I'd have Aupcharlie as the better horse for sure.

Anyway as you say thread is about BB
By:

When: 06 Jan 13 12:51
YMKM did finish lame yeah. I was worried as it looked like he'd been spanked but he is well regarded and looks decent so being lame makes his defeat understandable.

Back in Focus might be best suited to the 4 miler. They'll want to keep both horses apart.

Arvika Legionnaire is better off in hte Jewson in my opinion. Aupcharlie maybe the Jewson as well.
By:
CVByrne
When: 06 Jan 13 14:14
Just because they have the same owner doesn't mean they will want to keep them apart.

BiF and Boston Bob both have chances in RSA and they both will run in RSA.

Why Boston Bob entered in Irish Arkle CV? I'm on it for RSA also but 2 mile region too short..could get its confidence shot

Owner Graham Wylie sees the Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown as an "interesting" option for the exciting Boston Bob.

The eight-year-old was the leading staying novice hurdler in Ireland last season, winning at Grade Two and Grade One level before signing off with a close second behind the ill-fated Brindisi Breeze in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

He only scraped home when long odds-on for his fencing debut at Navan last month, but Wylie is not ruling out coming back in trip for the Irish Arkle on January 27.

"It was very heavy ground at Navan. Ruby (Walsh) thought before the race he would win and then when he felt the ground going down to the start he was a bit worried," said Wylie.

"We were delighted that he did win and he did blow quite badly after the race. He is a bit stronger and a bit fitter now and we'll see where we go next with him.

"Willie (Mullins) has given him an entry in the Irish Arkle, which is interesting.

"He is a horse with plenty of speed and he jumps well, so we'll see. I'll leave it up to Willie to decide where to go with him."

Boston Bob is the 5-2 second favourite for the Irish Arkle with Paddy Power, with stable companion Arvika Ligeonniere heading the market at 1-2

plenty of speed!!

Am i wrong in thinking this one was an out and out stayer that would end up in national type races??
Was really thinking if he won the RSA,we would not be looking at the race for next years Gold Cup winner.
By:
Graeme83
When: 08 Jan 13 17:13
It's only an entry. BB won't be going to any irish arkle. It's possible that if he's well enough he could take in a 2m 4f race to sharpen him up again. He needs the 3 miles to be seen at his best.

If there were a prize for confusing ante-post punters Willie Mullins would take it every year.

No doubt by Festival week the pieces of the jigsaw will suddenly fall into place.

Back In Focus is too slow to win an RSA. The only race he can possibly win at the Festival is the National Hunt Chase. He would go off favourite. So where is he likely to go?

Boston Bob chased home a very good stayer in last year's Albert Bartlett and unless he has gone backwards he is the obvious RSA candidate.

All but confirmed today that back in focus will skip the festival. Won't be running on any ground better than when he last raced  which was soft

Boston Bob has plenty of speed?Laugh

I'm on for the RSA so let's stop muckin the nag about - nice easy novice chase this month then the Moriarty then the RSA please

If you take Wylie's comments at face value you would have to think Back In Focus a very doubtful runner at the Festival. Presumably, the reservations he has have always been there which makes you wonder why Mullins was describing him as ideal RSA material particularly as he already had a more obvious candidate in Boston Bob.

Back In Focus is too slow for an RSA - would only be of interest in 4 miler, if anything.

i wonder will he run boston twice more...i remember mullins saying after defeat at chelters that maybe the race he won at leopardstown at end of january had taken more out of him than he thought !!! im on him too in a big way

Yep he also has option of 3m at Naas 2 days later, but that's a grade 2 which might take a bit more out of him before Dr PJ at Hennessy meeting that all Mullins RSA horses run in before festival.

I need to stop backing Boston Bob though, I've my biggest bet on him now. Grin Will lay some back after his next 2 runs.

I'm on at 8-1 ew but I'm not that confident to be honest.

Simonsig at 10/3 and 11/4 and Sprinter Scare at Evens I just cant have beaten.

If he runs next Thursday and then the Dr PJ then the RSA would be his first crack at 3m over fences. Concern?

When: 11 Jan 13 17:42
Very happy with my 9/4 to place, but wouldn't be particularly confident about him winning the race though.

Complete lack of depth in the race for me at this stage, but you never know, things can change come the off time.
By:

When: 11 Jan 13 18:17
I was more asking if it was a concern Budd rather than making a statement. Can't be very normal for a horse to take in a race such as the RSA having only run to 3m once and lost - appreciate came second in a chelt race!!

In on BB so was more asking for people's opinions
