Even if he has been schooling well which isn't a given, do they want to race those two against each other as soon as next year, plenty of time to keep them apart, a couple years time they may try to step SS up to 3 miles.

My point is, do they want to be running simonsig and SS against each other as early next year or keep them at least another year apart by letting simonsig have a crack at the champion hurdle....nothing silly about that

fair enough...but you did say they might step sprinter up to 3 miles which they never will...simonsig is the one that will go up in trip that is a sure fact...don't think it is a bad shout to let simonsig have a crack at the champion hurdle however

HC - what makes you so confident he'll never have a crack at the King George?

20f will not be the slightest problem for Sprinter Sacre and for the 2M chasers, there's nothing prestigious enough around King George time, so why not?

"20f will not be the slightest problem for Sprinter Sacre"

Seemed a major problem for him when he was stuffed by the Twiston horse at Ascot.

Totally different animal as a chaser...you KNOW that Bolty Wink

listen navel i actually can't be asked to argue...if you think he will run over 3 miles thats fair enough...but why bother when you are a top class 2 miler

yes i'd say there is a chance you will see him over 20f in the mildmay chase but they have no reason whatsoever to run in the king george it is a silly argument tbh...

never's a long,long time.

Sire's progeny include Saint Are

interesting that his first run over hurdles was over 2m 3.5f - -why did they do that?

when he's 9 rising 10 or 10 rising 11 and there's a new kid on the block, they won't try 3m ( see Europe,Sizing)?

Kauto won two Tingle Creeks

Master Minded dismissed as non stayer by some after his first attempt at 2m 4f ended up running in a King George

To say he'll never run over 3m is a bit silly to me - whether he'll be successful at 3m plus, I've no idea

Ttue but that run lingers in the memory.

I tagged on to this horse after watching him in his bumpers. When he made his hurdling debut over 20f I thought it wa a bit strange as he seemed a speed horse in his bumpers. After he travelled like a dream until two out and then got beat I saw nothing to change my mind.I'm not saying he's not capable of winning over 20f but I'm certain 2m is his trip.If they ever run him over 3m he'll be beaten out of sight.Mischief

Even if the King George happens in one, two or even three years time?

Like the majority, I can't say I'd be confident at 3M but I've seen so many horses change with age, that I never thought could possibly stay a trip...remember Floyd?

It's fine being to be so dogmatic but many horses have made me look foolish before, and that goes for everyone else too!
Report Navel-Gazer December 8, 2012 6:03 PM GMT
Maybe some are struggling to remember Floyd? Confused

He used to tear-arse off over 2M and when gradually upped in class, started struggling to get home.

He didn't seem to have much fight in him (which was similar with Edredon Bleu in his early career) and when he was more mature, he used the same bold front-running tactics over 3M and became a warrior, battling his arse off and really seeing out the trip!

These things teach you lessons Plain
