have already backed sanctuaire for the champion chase and was llooking for another big priced contender just in case things dont work out as expected ,and  been watching reruns of this flemenstars  races over fences, and have to say you cant fail to be impressed  with the way he jumps and travels ! there is nothing hidden we all know he is a very smart horse and the main aim is the cheltenham gold cup for which he is trading around 10/1 . this horse won the irish arkle in very good style last season and won 1st time out in the fortria chase at navan  thrashing  big zeb, foildub ,and had  realt dubh well behind ! he has beaten some good horses along the way , he is due to step up in trip in the 3 mile lexus chase where he could meet current gold cup fav sir des champs ,if he wins or proves he gets the trip then he will be gold cup bound and i will have done my dough   ! but if he proves not to get the trip then he has the option of the ryanaire or even the champion chase for which he is currently around 50s on bf, this is of interest to me as he has the speed for 2 miles, jumps, travels , and seems best suited by small fields . i can see his trainer sending him for the more prestigeous and valuable champion chase rather than the ryanaire and the champion chase would suit him better imo ,o.k he may well have to face sprinter sacre and possibly sanctuaire but if you dont buy a ticket you wont win the raffle and he wont be nowhere near 50s if he were to line up.
jockey andrew lynch described him as " a real machine " last november when he won at navan by 19 lengths. and he won the grade 1 irish arkle chase leopardstown also by 19 lenghts andrew lynch stated "he was unreal ,he jumped  and travelled super and put the race to bed in a matter of strides,i couldnt belive how far back they were .
at around 50s on here i have taken the chance   that he will turn up  in the champion chase , at that price you dont have to put much on to win big ,and if he dont well thats life ,thats gambling as they say  . he who dares wins .....................sometimes ! CHAMPION CHASE .FLEMENSTAR 1 POINT WIN at around 50 on here good luck .

Very good read foyleswar, just hope your theory is not true.Would love to see the superSTAR line up in the gold cup,the lads breed to stay 3 miles.Wheather he stays 3m2f round cheltenham only time will tell, but if he does were all in for a real treat.ROLL ON MARCH & the best of luck with your punt.I ve backed him at 12s,that could be real value in a few weeks time!

Interesting post Foyles and nice that you are covering these angles,Hope one of them comes off for you and vindicates all the work you've put in (FWIW I see Flemenstar as a 2m4f horse and feel 3m2f could be a step too far but i have been wrong many times before)
Good luck

todays race was a bit inconclusive as to flemenstar staying a lot further ,my gut feeling is 3miles may be too far but its worth a try and if he dont stay then its either a biggish field  ryanaire or qmcc  facing the monster !

If he doesn't stay 3m will surely go Ryanair; anyone going to the Champion Chase is running for a place if Sprinter turns up
Report buddeliea December 9, 2012 7:41 PM GMT
not sure his connections will want him in the ryanair, reckon it will be either GC or QM,depending on what he shows them in his next race or 2.
Report BornToWin December 9, 2012 9:10 PM GMT
I also think its highly unlikely to be the Ryanair and slighty less unlikely to be the CC. I wish the Ryanair had the prestige of the other 2, so that we could have another true Championship instead of it being a fall back option Plain

The Gold Cup is a brutal race, I would like to see him try 3m before then. Even if that is negotiated acceptably the GC test still not certain to suit.

Deary me, I believe a cup of tea will help at this point.

Good evening.

Need a more prestigious sponsor than Ryanair for a starter .....whatever happened to "The Waterford Crystal Arkle" etc - that meant it was a big deal!
Report oufies pal December 10, 2012 9:50 AM GMT
"Waterford Crystal "  sadly not such a big deal anymore ! Ryanair on the other hand...

The MD 20/20 20f Championship?
Report oufies pal December 10, 2012 11:31 AM GMT
There is every reason to believe this lad will stay 3 miles plus, breeding/look of a proper old fashioned staying chaser/ trainers belief / unlikely to have the stuffing knocked out of him by poor jumping/looks to have loads of running left at end of races. Likely good ground at festival should help in any case. Its possible this horse is running over trips far too short for him at the moment and we may  still have to see just what he is capable of when stepped up. Cant wait.

peter casey and nicky henderson ..........make it happen!
Report FOYLESWAR December 28, 2012 10:55 PM GMT
p. casey said he dont like the ryanaire and you need a 2 and a half miler for the champion chase ,he said that sprinter sacre would be quaking in his boots " er i dont know about that peter but would make the queen mother champ chase more interesting"
Report FOYLESWAR December 29, 2012 5:51 AM GMT
think they may well try the hennesey as flemenstar got the lexus trip all but the last 100 yards ,the extra 2.5 furlongs uphill of the gold cup is a completely different matter though and probably a bridge to far.
