There was something almost surreal about the Gold Cup going on but everyone around me (at least) watching Kauto be pulled up and trotted back. That could only happen for a very, very sepcial horse.
On radio 5 this evening Clive smith said he'll stay at Ditcheat until Christmas then they'll find him something to do to keep him active. I wonder if he might become a dressage horse or something like that? He'd love the attention. |

What can I say about this horse really that I haven't said many times over? I can't sum up in words how much this horse means to me. Or guage the importance he had in solidifying my love for this sport. He's influenced my life and he'll have influenced the life of my eventual children when I bring them to race tracks and regale them with stories of the sheer greatness that was Kauto Star.
Goodbye old friend, I will see you again I'm sure. But in difference circumstances. Happy Retirement, I don't doubt you'll probably live on for another 20 years so strong is your spirit. I'll be sure to pay my respects at your statues wherever I see them. The fact he managed to win 2 GC's despite that race but his ideal conditions speaks volumes about his class. He only need to look at what happened to Denman whenever he tried Aintree or Imperial Commander whenever he tried Kempton to see that. Also destroyed that seasons QM winner and future dual QM winner in the tingle creek the same season he won his first gold cup. Has his pick of riches that season.
