the handicp hurdle he won beating get me out of here and raya star giving them weight looks a really good effort now !
By:
on the face of it, it is a fantastic price, in these situations though i always get frightened by the price rather than thinking brilliant , more money for me to win
, i'd sooner a point knocked off the price and him to be fancied before i back him![]() |

I know what you mean duffy. Its almost like if it seems too good to be true........
By:
Well if he needed that he's going to be pretty good. Battled well giving a lot of weight away all round. Didn't end up backing him today, but have already taken some 14/1 for the Champ Hurdle. Also thought he travelled fairly well for the most part which he hasn't always done in the past.
By:
Yeah, he ran better than I thought he would. Didn't have a bet in the race but travelled well and to win a handicap off 163 is no mean feat. He just seemed to get tired approaching the last, and showed his battling abilities that he's shown in the past.
Whether or not I'd be backing him for a Champion Hurdle, but he's now set a pretty good benchmark. |
By:
agree res, very impressive all things considered, i didn't back him either today, he travelled beautifully and then when the point came where he could be forgiven for getting beat through needing it, he still battled on to win, on a stiffer track than todays and fitness he's going to be right in the mix for top honours this year.
By:
Well its gonna be a fast paced CH imo,so that should suit him,he will stay further which is no bad thing.
Yep,changed my mind completely,hes a player. |
By:
Delighted for my 14/1 AP ticket, but absolutely sick I listened to PN and didnt back him today.
Fantastic performance all things considered. |
By:
decent run imo ,backed him today although laid off stake at 1.81 in running, although a drifter nicholls said he is hard to fathom at home,
By:
I'd be tempted to keep Daryl Jacob on board. I'm not convinced Ruby thinks that much of him and will be riding Hurricane Fly barring injury anyway. Jacob seems to get on well with him and has been on board more often than Ruby has now. Sometimes forget he's only had 7 races over hurdles
By:
res - I assumed thats why DJ rode him today and not Ruby. Ruby will ride The Fly in March and Paul Nicholls thinks Zarkander has a great chance so will want DJ riding him every chance.

Could well be Billy, but I read that Walsh preferred Prospect Wells due to the weight allowance - can't remember if it was RP or Sporting Life but would have been one of those websites.
Howdi, on what we've seen over fences Overturn deserves to be fav in my view. |
By:
Sorry the comment re Overturn was meant for another thread.
By:
thought it was a decent performance today by zarkandar, just seemed to do enough and may be more to come .
By:
also proved he can race handilly and does not have to come from behind .
By:
He only raced handy because it went slow early on. In the champion he seemed to struggle with the pace until the latter part of the race when he flew up the hill hence PN saying he may wants further, fair enough he won the triumph but that was only his 2nd race over hurdles and still having the flat speed.
By:
he was always going to race handy i think, lined up like that.
By:
giving 17pound to prospect wells was fair form ,cant be taken literally but pros wells ran cinders and ashes to 2 lenghts off levels in the supreme at the festival .

By:
Winning yesterday in a slowly run race on a sharp track was indeed a decent performance.
I backed him for this seaon's event after the last one and was disappointed to see him line up at Aintree. On the whole he hurdled well and if anything was a little slicker as the pace increased. I do think he may need further in top class company on a flatter track, but but the pace and track of CH will suit him absolutely perfectly. Last year was always going to be a season too early and on the back of his interrupted programme and then his coughing post Newbury, his run last year should be marked up considerably.Played again after yesterday showed his well being. |
By:
any thoughts on where his next race will be? I would have thought the Bula would be a good option but where else? Did Nicholls say anything?
By:
That is the race judorick. Just as I wanted, 2 runs before Xmas, a prep somewhere in Feb and then fly up the hill in March.
By:
ta roobuck
be nice for him to turn up in rude health next March 100/30 was a cracking price yesterday |
By:
Yes, they said the International Hurdle (Bula) was what they were training him for.
By:
Very impressed with that. P Wells is a nice bench mark, badly campaigned and seemingly not top class, still a V, V nice effort from Z.
By:
I agree RC, especially if Zark was undercooked as PFN had said.
By:
Unless any of last years Supreme novices comes out with a sparkling performance, then it's hard to make a case for them after this. Trifolium already stuffed and now PW. Not looking good for Cinders chances IMO.
By:
Zarkandar was really impressive and when you couple that with how positive Paul N is about him it is enough of a hint for us all isnt it............he must go close in March Champion Hurdle. International @ Cheltenham next and then put away for March is my guess. Goes well fresh and listening to PN he wants to keep him safe for March.
By:
i think theyre taking in the kingwell aswell
By:
Yes I wouldn't want him taking in the CH without a run after Xmas. The Kingwell as potentially a speed test before Cheltenham sounds perfect
By:
He's run in quite a few slow-slow-slow-sprint type races lately. I'd like to see him in an out and out gallop over 2m. I'm sure he'll stay, but would he be outpaces before it matters?
By:
was the betfair hurdle a true run race? i cant remember
By:
No.
By:
if he did meet an out and out 2 miler over 2 then tactics would count for a lot. they might well bowl him along out front to try and make it as much a test of stamina as possible
By:
The better the stamina test the further he wins imo
By:
thought zarkandar did it well, looks the type who just does enough to get the job done .
By:
Yep. Impressed here. Had Grandouet as my main CH hope before today, and still really keen on him, but I think Zarkandar is probably the most likely winner now for me
Don't buy into the whole stamina horse thing with him, think he's fast as fook tbh. |
By:
Zarkander is a admirable individual but dont see it as the winner of the CH,now the most likely winner would be Grandouet given the 4lb and fitness disadvantage today but to me CF,HF+ROR are all ahead of Zarkander for me so Id much rather be a layer than a backer of Zarkander, although its genuine and tough as teak but the others make much more appeal for me,but its shaping up as a competitive renewal although without the Xfactor of a superstar..............as yet but you never know.
By:
I think today's track, which is the same one used for the Triumph, suits Zarkandar beter than the Champion Hurdle track. There's more emphasis on stamina. I think he could get outpaced in the Champion. He was briefly outpaced today.
I'd fancy Grandouet to beat him in the Champion, and I'd fancy a fit and well Fly to beat them both, unless the ground is fast(ish). Don't think the Fly is at his best on fast. |
By:
If its fast ground then Rock on Ruby is the winner IMO
By:
I do think that zark and ROR are stronger stayers than grandouet , with ROR being even more so than Zark but for most of the race today ROR was travelling easier than Zark, he blew up in the end but i was left feeling that Zark would get outpaced in the champion on better ground, looking further afield, this time next year I can see him being next on the Big Bucks challenger conveyor belt.
