As horrifically cheesey as it is, I can't help myself having it full-blast and belting it out the Monday before the Tuesday every year Grin

Nice opener for Far West there, don't think he jumped as well as ATR were making out but looks a lovely promising sort.

The NH season is here!! Love

Some very interesting entries for Sunday at Kempton, especially in the 2 m conditions hurdle - Brampour, Get Me Out of Here, Cotton Mill (pleased to see him tried at 2 m!), Local Hero, Moon Dice, Prospect Wells, Starluck, Baby Mix...

We are back and running.

I like to keep Cheltenham as a once a year event, keeps it special for me. Plus, while it's a decent card at Cheltenham and while I much prefer the jumps to the flat, seeing Frankel for the last time trumps Chelters on Saturday for me. Happy

My racing viewing is very limited. This afternoon's Cheltenham coverage on C4 will be the first jump racing I've seen since last season.

I am soooooooooooo excited! Grin Grin Grin
Report Joist October 20, 2012 11:11 PM BST
Hope you enjoyed, Makybe! The joy Frankel gave me and thousands of others at Ascot today is (dare I say it) greater than I've had at Cheltenham in my modest 5 or so years of attending. I can't wait to witness some history at Cheltenham because it must be incredible.

I always consider the Old Roan Chase as the first big race of the NH season, so roll on next weekend! We're firmly underway then Grin
Report strontium October 20, 2012 11:18 PM BST
Nice scenes at Cheltenham too - the race was delayed so we could all watch Frankel. When he made his move coming down the straight the place erupted.

I thought Frankel was very special today - losing 4 lengths falling out of the gate like that, then crusing past the second best flat race horse in the world like it wasn't there. He also made Nathanial (King George and Eclipse winner!) look ordinary.

Glad you enjoyed it Joist - I've had some of the most unforgettable moments of my life watching sport.
Report Joist October 20, 2012 11:25 PM BST
Absolutely phenomenal Stront wasn't it- Frankel cruising on the bridle past a top class Cirrus Des Aigles who was in full flight. Bet that was a great moment at Cheltenham.

I was so impressed with Excelebration today. Then I had to remind myself that he's the horse that Frankel regularly laughed at to the tune of several lengths. Just remarkable!

Anyway, with that awesome culmination to the flat I'm ready for the NH. One thing I'm so grateful to Frankel for is that he's got my best mate interested in racing, when he couldn't have given a monkeys before. He's now got so into it that he's thrilled to be attending his first Festival with me next year! So from Frankel, to Sprinter Sacre; really hope he fulfils his incredible potential this year.

Yep, Excelebration was oustanding - his race today goes to show how good Frankel really is.

Great champions are always worth watching in any sport. We have one in Big Buck's - let's hope we have another in Sprinter Sacre.

I sure did, Joist Happy

Our sensational summer of sport continues into the autumn with our darling Frankel.

Loved the jumping from Chelts, too.
I particularly enjoyed seeing the win of Nadiya De La Vega.
She's a gorgeous looking mare.
I believe she reared up and went over backwards (with AP) before the race Sad, so she did well to run so well after that.
Really looking forward to following her this season.

Don't get me wrong, I love NH racing and jumps racing fans - a more passionate and life-affirming bunch you'll never meet.

It's just this CONSTANT need (by some) to define themselves by how much they loathe flat racing. It's a bit like Scots defining their own national worth by precisely how much they hate the English.

Also, it used to be the stroking was scheduled to start at the Mackeson Meeting at Cheltenham. Then it was Charlie Hall Chase but now I see it's the Chepstow October meeting.

It's all horse racing for me.

Still I learnt an awful lot from others on forums, for which I am grateful, so I hope I can help others get into horse racing, or improve their own betting. btw If anyone wants me to write about something on a particular topic please use the contact feature on the site. The latest Willie Mullins blog post was in response to a request.

I'll have a big blog post and pictures next Tuesday evening after we go see the clubs horses in training with Harry Fry. Paul Barber has leased 4 of his horses to the club this season. With Highland Retreat being the star, she heads novice chasing this season once the rain comes.

Report wellchief October 25, 2015 5:28 PM GMT
Just got back from Aintree, and I am a small shareholder in Sound Investment.  What a day; managed to get an owners badge in the week, and rub shoulders with the like of Jonjo O'Neill and Phillip Hobbs in the parade ring.  When he won, everyone was going crazy, and we all ran to the winners enclosure to greet him, and the icing on the cake was going up to collect the trophy.

I can't recommend the Owners Group highly enough.  For £50 per year per horse, you get the chance to get an owners badge like I did, and I have also got a free tour of Paul Nicholls stables as part of his owners open day.  You never get your money back in prize money as this is just a hobby, but being associated with such a horse is fantastic, and being in the winners enclosure of one of the most famous racecourses in the world, having just won a Grade 2 is something I'll never forget.  On to the Paddy Power next!

.....the next one for me is Nexius, a 2,5m novice chaser making his chasing debut on Tuesday for Paul Nicholls too.

Just to make it that little bit more special was that I got to give Monets Garden a little pet on the face as he was walking round the parade ring - only in NH racing could you get such an experience for a one of £50 fee.
Report scooby91 October 25, 2015 6:39 PM GMT
Sounds like a great day chief.
Have to agree, the monthly newsletter is very good also.
I also have shares in the owners group novice hurdler bagad bihoue. Unfortunately there were no owner's day tickets left but have been offered a stable tour at the end of january.
Report wellchief October 25, 2015 6:52 PM GMT
Excellent Scooby.  Two of my mates have got shares in Bagad Bihoue too - he looked impressive in his only bumper win in France, so good luck to you.

I had shares in Tercel too, before he was sold a few months ago to go back on the flat - it's an excellent inexpensive way to get into the sport.  Nexius was a half decent 142 rated hurdler for Keith Dalgleish, but PFN appears to be really bullish about him as a chaser.

The dream is to get an owners badge at the festival....very unlikely but you never know!
Report scooby91 October 25, 2015 7:48 PM GMT
That would be the dream, would be nice to think one of the owners group horses can make it to the festival.  Will be interesting to see how they all get on, and gives an extra interest going into the jumps season.
