A great subject for a thread Howdi, and you'll do well to trump this one... Sabin Du Loir - off the track for a solid four years, before returning to a similar (if not better) level.
The level of form comparison is debatable, as he was unbeaten in 5 as a 4yo hurdler, side-stepping the Triumph Hurdle for the Sun Alliance instead, where he beat his elders, including the likes of Dawn Run & West Tip, at the huge odds of 16/1!

West Tip got hit by a lorry when it was young as I recall.
Moorcroft Boy broke its neck before winning Scottish or Welsh National forget which.
Delius is the best example I can think of.Sabin du Loir another - good shout Foetus.West Tip got hit by a lorry when it was young as I recall.Moorcroft Boy broke its neck before winning Scottish or Welsh National forget which.
We've also not mentioned Denman (counting his heart condition as an injury). Perhaps not quite as good when he came back, but within a few pounds.

Kalaglow incurred a leg injury of some sort when down the field in Shergar's Derby, and that was his season over. He returned with a vengeance the next year, winning the Eclipse & King George

Even though he didn't win, I'd say Albertas Run's run in this years Ryanair is up there as one of his best performances, against a top quality field after about 6 months off

theres injury and injury the only two mentioned so far that i would count are sabin du loir and delius, both of course trained by the dickensons before coming back with other yards.

Hala Bek won a conditions race after sustaining quite a serious injury, didn't race after that but had looked to retained a lot of his previous ability.

Wellchief, mighty man had to have stem cell therapy and came back to finish close up second to big bucks at aintree. A couple of years earlier he would have been destroyed. That was a proper injury.

OTS - that was from memory a listed event at Nottingham. I personally don't think that proved it was as good as its (admittedly suspect) Derby form.
However I do think that qualified as a 'proper' injury which many of those horses mention don't.

Of course it's a spectrum, but how do you define a "proper" injury? In Aldaniti's case he could well have been put down with different connections. Horses like Kauto (broken fetlock iirc) and Neptune Collonges (leg tendons?) had injuries that would have finished many or most horses.
I think in general people have avoided the Bionocular/kicking King type horses who were injured briefly.

Next time someone starts a thread "Horses that had stem cell therapy and came back as good as ever or better", I will be the first to mention Mighty Man on your behalf if no one else does.

Nick Dundee was a "good thing" when he fell in Looks Like Troubles RSA. But with hindsight it's very very doubtful he would have won anyway. But doubt also he was as good when he came back.

Howdi, with what LLT turned out to be, I doubt Nick Dundee would have won. Sadly, we'll never know. You could be right Fidway re Royal Gait, just came to me he had been off for a deal of time.

Good old mate of mine said to me 30 years ago and you know what in my opinion he was right ....
Horses don't come back after being injured and if they don't run as a 2 year old there no good ....
Obviously there's been a few but over the last 30 years or so i would struggle to name 20+ that were really good after a serious injury many have come back and won after a long long absence but they then bounce never to be heard of again
The same also applies to unraced flat 2 year olds there's been thousands yet as with the injured horses once again i would struggle to name 20 +

So now I need to take back my earlier comment "I think in general people have avoided the Bionocular/kicking King type horses who were injured briefly."
No, I don't think they count
SNA - In general you're probaly right but there are plenty of horses mentioned in this thread who had serious injuries and came back to win major races. From a quick scan I think we've named 6 National winners and winners of the four Cheltenham Championship races.
