Billy, Ruby does say very little but one thing he has said is that Zarkandar is too slow for the CH - I think he's got that one completely wrong as well.

roo - I havent heard that comment from Ruby but I reckon he is wrong too and more importantly so does a certain Paul Nicholls.........PN really fancies Z for CH. He has made that clear for some time.

I also think AF better suited to Gold Cup rather than KG. Wouldn't say he'll not take to Kempton, but he seems to love Cheltenham |

yes roo and i think he must have a decent chance of staying the gold cup trip after that run on saturday he wasnt stopping in bad ground .

Definitely agree he really likes Cheltenham. Will he get 3m2f ? Does he need to go for Gold Cup this year ? Just got a little inkling based on pure gut feel he might go for the Ryanair this year.

They may send him to the Ryanair, may not be the wrong option for him this year.
However I would go GC this year, obviously assuming all is well with him. You never know what's round the corner, but most of the top potential GC contenders this year are going to be around for a while so go for it if now if the horse is at the top of his game. |

think it depends on if he has anything for the gold cup at the time ,silviniaco looks as tho he will go gold cup but they have cristal bonus and kauto stone who could go for the ryanaire and he has run more than 1 in the gold cup before .

If he does enough during the season to convince connections he can stay the GC trip he will run in the race,absolutely convinced of that.They know that Cheltenham suits him down to the ground,so if they think he stays its a no brainer for me.
The KG will tell them that i would think,or indeed any other race they choose for him. If they have doubts about it this season,i think he will be in Ryanair,with a view to giving it a go the following season. What i do know is that wherever he ends up,i shall be backing him. |

I'm with ya Foyles, backed Alf @ 50's for Gold Cup before the PP last weekend for which I also backed him.
My case was how different an animal Master Minded was labouring and flat out over 2m in his last 2 Champ Chases, but class was shown when upped in trip. Look at where War of Attrition came in the Arkle the year before he won the Gold Cup. Stayers are stayers, Alf sire is Dom Alco and winning the PP on sat showed the depth of his stamina. Will improve when stepped up again. |

Al Ferof - Talented novice who is just not a 2 miler. Ran excellent to come 3rd in Victor Chandler just behind Champion Chaser Finians Rainbow before making a bad error when tryin to serve it up with flying machine Sprinter Sacre in the Arkle. Was out of sorts nto at Aintree, a meeting at which rarely is any use as a form guide. Horse is bred to stay, as he's out of Dom Alco, so as he's upped in trip we'll see significant improvement along with being more experienced. I keep thinking about Master Minded being flat out and out of his comfort zone over 2 miles in good company, but then when upped in trip we see a totally different horse. That's what I think we'll see here with Al. I also feel he's better in big fields, with his Supreme win standing out. He certainly has no problem with them in any case. I accept he has a high weight, but 2 of the last 10 winners have won off a weight 1lb either side of his 11-8, so it's not impossible, or even that rare a feat. That's 20% of winners. Also when you look down the field you get the feeling there are not as many low weight dangers as there would normally be in this race. It is a weak looking race and I'd like to go with class, and between him & Grands Crus you have to side with the better vaule Al Ferorf. Anyway, my point was he's a stayer who was always going a yard to quick over 2m in his novice days. |

yeah roo if i had a horse who was ticked a lot of boxes and was a genuine contender for a big race i would want to strike while the iron is hot ,as you say anything can happen waiting for next season, why take the chance get in while you can .

When they are fit and in form you gotta strike while the iron is hot. I'd prefer 2 cracks at the Gold Cup than a Ryanair and one crack.

yeh thats a good write up mate,wish i had read it,might have given me more confidence.Only had a minimum bet,was a tad concerned the Arkle error might have left a mark.
Was great to watch him Saturday and confirm my belief in him being a real Cheltenham type. He looks like he will stay further ok,and has to be a major player in any race at Cheltenham in the future. Hope you are on here more often CV,place is better for that for sure. |

I'll post a bit more as the season progresses like always. I did mean to post that piece on Alf in here but slipped my mind.
I'm very sweet on Bob's Worth off his current mark in a very weak Hennessy as long as the ground isn't too bad. Similar Saint Are is on a decent mark too. I've backed both. |

had a decent bet on al ferof on sat (not aftertiming its on the paddy power fred on the friday before the race somewhere ) my only concern was if the bad blunder in the arkle where he landed on the fence had affected the horse but when i saw the run of money for him on the thursday or wednesday it put my mind at rest .nicholls said it was an exceptional piece of work or words to that effect .
