Impossible to connect calls and text messages delivery delayed. Nightmare trying to meet with mates at the course over the 4 days. Anyone have these problems and know why it happened and any solutions for future festivals?
Mate of mine went to put his last ton or so on Long Run, couldn't get any reception - he managed to log onto his online account just after to empty out on salsify though, happy days!

Been the last 3 years and never had much joy (with Orange). Often messages are delayed or won't send. And as for using 3G and the internet, its very hit and miss, but more miss

I'm on Vodafone and had limited signal for pretty much all of Tuesday, texts took forever to send & as for 3G data forget it !! No damage done as had backed & layed everything that I wanted before leaving home and made sure I'd done the same before heading back on Friday so didnt even check if it was any better then.
Have commented on this to Cheltenham in the questionnaire thing they sent out, never know they may give us all free wifi access next year :-)

vodaphone , says it all really , im tied to acontract for nearly a year with vodaphone, last time for me, i also have a vodaphone dongle (im oncourse bookie)i never use it as vodaphone are totaly hopeless, thankfully the dongle contract ends in a month or so.their mobile broadband is slow at best and normally unavailable.i use two other dongles, connect three, tw3ice as fast and generaally reliable. i think vodaphone was the ist mobile broadband and has not moved with the times.i needed to use the phone 4 or 5 times at chelters but as you also pointed out with no success.

I'm with Virgin but I think they use the t-mobile network. My reception this year was the best it's ever been, even on the friday when it's usually hopeless
Didn't have a single cash bet this year

Clearly some us had success and others didn't, and reading the posts above I'm not sure if the various networks make a difference. Does anyone have any theories on why some worked and some didn't (type of phone, type of contract, network etc.?) because it's hard to understand why some of us were ok while others weren't.

I was at Cheltenham Friday and NO internet signal AT ALL so cld not place bets on the phone.
Only solution is for people to complain. Having free wifi - LIKE ASCOT DO! - will barely touch the bookies: those that want to bet in the ring will continue to do so... It might possibly hit the Tote a little if you think people go to the Tote rather than walk all the way to the ring, but bottom line is I was with an elderly familly member and was dependent on my internet and it failed to deliver all day...
C'mon Cheltenham,,, invest in a wifi system!

Should add I pay 75 quid a month for top of the range package (unlimited free everything) on a business O2 package... the iphone might be part of the issue, hence my prospective move to a BB 9900 with the now-linked T-mobile/Orange network...
