There seems to have been some very misleading announcements coming from certain trainers the last year which punters would have been much better without.
Peddlers Cross - Arkle ends up in Jewson
Captain Chris - Gold Cup ends up in Ryanair
Sir Des Champs - RSA ends up in Jewson
Kauto Star - Master Minded strongly fancied and backed by trainer, Kauto hardly a mention and then doubtful for the King George, big drift on here
Kauto Star - apprently 50-50 for Gold Cup (yeah right) causing big drift on here
Zarkandar - given plenty of paper space by his trainer, big drift on day. Rock On Ruby hardly mentioned by trainer by comparison surprisingly strong in market, wins.
Ignore them or do the opposite to what they say imo lol. People still buying the trade paper to read the rubbish they come out with.
Is there a case for totally ignoring them now as all they seem to do is put punters onto the wrong race

They have always done it! Forget the "now" at the end of your statement. Whilst I do like the soundbites from time to time it's is NOT the definitive factor that sways me to punt a horse ante-post. Obviously everyone is different in the way we handicap and bet races. For anyone imo to rely on the say so of a trainer is simply being lazy in the same way some people actually ring tipping lines!

Well I reckon the people who had NRNB about a good dozen serious fancies for this year's festival will be in a much better position that those who didnt.

Batonnier (Neptune)
Peddlars Cross, Grand Crus, and Sir Des Champs were all heavily backed for raced they didnt line up in as well.
Well I reckon the people who had NRNB about a good dozen serious fancies for this year's festival will be in a much better position that those who didnt.

After Zarkander won at Newbury Nicholls (unprompted) stated on Racing UK that the lads who looked after ROR would be pleased - a pretty broad hint that they rated ROR, imo.
It's an ever increasing problem working out which race trainers will target, not just a conundrum for us, but for them too. First they introduced the Albert Bartlett and the Ryanair. Then they changed the qualification rules for the 4miler effectively upgrading it. Then they introduced the mares race. Then the Jewson, which is a Grade 1 already in all but name and will certainly be raised to that status as soon as they are allowed.
With so many more choices, trainers are going to keep their options open and sometimes change their minds. I found myself with loads of fancies this year that I couldn't get seriously involved in due to uncertain targets. Once NRNB came in I was finally able to back them and still got some reasonable value on some while getting money back on others. It is not a trend I am particularly happy with but not much I can do about it so will just have to reduce my AP interest in the future.

Good point above, the porkies re target to get a price or indecision from trainers whichever it is could drive feeble antepost punters onto to dire valueless NRNB markets. If they become popular we can kiss goodbye to antepost value and Cheltenham aint half as exciting without decent antepost valuebets on.
