How good is Fingal Bay?

Simonsig will beat Fingal Bay. Visually you could see how much he picked up off the bit today. Champions aren't made on soft ground in a novice hurdle.

agree with that.....visually from todays race you'd have to think that fingal bay would want to be running in the albert bartlett

But fingal smashed him before the sick note was played.

Fingal loves better ground.

Why cant we agree that these 2 are the best novices from 2012 and enjoy......

the betting would be interesting....fingal has beaten simonsig fair and square but simonsig remains the horse with that special aura about him that today has enhanced.

I like both of them and they are both high class animals but the thread was indicating Simonsig boosted Fingal's form. I think Simonsig was a different animal all together today and doubt if any novice would have beat him.

Impressive performance from Simonsig today. We will never know whether FB would have beaten him but kudos to BG for insisting that he needed more time over his hurdles. This was the right race for him and I'm delighted for his owner (lovely man), who has hunting/pointing/NH rules racing in his blood and has achieved his first major Festival success after many years of trying.

ONS - read my post. Where does it say he would have beaten FB? You've obviously backed something else and are a bit sore....grow up.

Simonsig picked up very well at Sandown and ran on strongly, he drew many lengths clear of a smart sort in Barbatos in 3rd. Was just beaten by a better horse on the day. Simonsig may not even have improved to win today

the worry must be that longevity is not an oft used word at the Hobbs yard. Their horses don't seem to be able to last more than a season at the top level

There was some shat posted on here about Simonsig running in the Supreme. He missed 2 hurdles today which would probably have been fatal in that race and probably would have been against FB in the Neptune. My point is that he couldn't have won the Supreme. He was in the right race. The fact that the best horse over this trip didn't run is irrelevant.

Not me mate - I backed Simonsig on here for the Neptune immediately after he was beaten by FB, as I thought FB would be headed for the Bartlett and you will find plenty of evidence on here that I thought the Neptune was the right race for him.

It wasn't the hottest Neptune ever but BG's assessment of what was right for the horse was absolutely spot on.

Let's hope FB comes back with a bang for Philip Hobbs though I'm not sure Aintree will suit - he deserves a bit of good luck.

Where do we think Fingal Bay will head next year? Jewson?

Prob Jeweson, Lovecen was well behind in Albert Bartlett and he beat Fingal over 3m. Prob best to stick to 2 1/2 as RSA is for dour stayers. Jeweson is a Grade 1 next year too

CVB - is the Jewson upgarde confirmed? I thought there had to be one more running before it could become a G1?

I've never really taken to Fingal Bay, don't really know why - just think he's slightly overrated.

Yes, he did beat Simonsig, but I was very vocal on here believing Simonsig would turn that form around.  I suppose we will never know now, especially if Fingal goes staying chasing and Simonsig goes the Arkle route.

If they were to meet again, I definitely know who my money would be on.

If Oscar Whisky does go chasing (I wouldn't personally), then the Jewson is tailor made for him.
