Markets have known that for a few days!
Report buddeliea March 10, 2012 11:23 AM GMT
well, the work yesterday probably sealed it

The betfair book on the Gold cup still doesn't seem to be pricing up the race right. Book % is actually an under-round when you exclude all the non-runners including at this stage likely to be Grand Crus
Report ashleigh March 10, 2012 12:50 PM GMT
2/1 with billys but not n/r n/b.
Report frank60 March 10, 2012 12:50 PM GMT
Pipe was on the morning line at 8.15 this morning  and Nick luck asked about Grand cru, pipe said he would let punters know on monday morning , every think else is guess work.
Report rothko March 10, 2012 12:57 PM GMT
theres only one gold cup hopefully got the bottle to go for it

it was barney curleys charity bet at one of the preview nights - barney knows Wink
Report judorick March 10, 2012 1:03 PM GMT
hopefully RSA and a very short price, lay it big time
Report Luke01 March 10, 2012 1:26 PM GMT
The obvious race - Grand Crus is a novice so RSA.
Report differentdrum March 10, 2012 1:32 PM GMT
Disappointing news if confirmed. He would have been the one possible surprise package in the Gold Cup. His absence will effectively just hand the race to Long Run. Everyone knows how free-going Grands Crus is and with Midnight Chase he would have got an even pace in the Gold Cup. Not at all sure what will happen in a small field RSA. No surprise if he finds himself in front three out again which is hardly going be ideal.
Report duncan idaho March 10, 2012 1:45 PM GMT
Kauto's wellbeing+ Grands Crus unseating in schooling+ Gloria Victus= NO GOLD CUP BID imo
Report judorick March 10, 2012 2:18 PM GMT
Burton Port is gonna be the suprise package Diffrentdrum
Report duncan idaho March 10, 2012 2:56 PM GMT
^ 3rd fav
Report judorick March 10, 2012 3:00 PM GMT
yes but the surprise is going to be what happens in the race
Report Eeternaloptimist March 10, 2012 4:30 PM GMT
If its third fav it won't be a surprise if it wins the race. Of course if he comes home 20 lengths clear with Geraghty stood on his back after the last sipping Bolly then that would be a surprise.
Report judorick March 10, 2012 4:58 PM GMT
exactly
Report rothko March 10, 2012 7:48 PM GMT
missed opportunity for grand crus

long run - not as good as last year and 3 mile
kauto - 12 plus fall plus really likes flat tracks like kemptonn

the rest are handicappers

cant believe pipe is going for the RSA
lookslike i will have to back wierd al ffs
Report judorick March 10, 2012 7:54 PM GMT
burton port is pure class and will prove it

he aint no handicapper, people only think that because he had to have 14 months off with injury, never been out of the first two in a chase and all set to preserve that record - would absolutely hammer Grands Crus
Report rothko March 10, 2012 7:57 PM GMT
burton port is a decent horse but if thats the bar then you know what my decision would be
Report resner not lesnar March 10, 2012 8:18 PM GMT
Duncan mentioned Grands Crus unseating while schooling, I hadn't heard this, has anybody else seen/heard this, where did it come from. Not doubting it but just interested to read about it. Unlike quite a few others it seems, I'm quite confident that if he runs in the RSA he wins
Report rothko March 10, 2012 8:25 PM GMT
rather be placed in a gold cup than win an RSA

ffs synchronised is being put up to win and it wont have soft in the description
Report alexmillwall March 10, 2012 8:28 PM GMT
Im going for a similar GC to last year, Long Run, Kauto, WAF, Midnight Chase, Burton Port. All the others will be tailed off if the ground is decent. Very average race outside the top2
Report judorick March 10, 2012 8:29 PM GMT
I have no idea what your decision would be but if you are serious about putting a thrice raced novice up against the best stayers over a trip he has never faced abd thinking he could beat the likes of Burton Port then you need to have a rethink imo
Report rothko March 10, 2012 8:35 PM GMT
my decision would be if the horse was at its peak then run in the GC
peddlars cross is in the jewson rather than the arkle !!!!
Report differentdrum March 10, 2012 8:45 PM GMT
Have a little look back at the way Burton Port jumped in the RSA (admitedly for McCoy) and perhaps you won't be so confident. Possibility Cheltenham isn't his track - personally I wouldn't want to take the gamble at what is now a pretty short price.
Report judorick March 10, 2012 9:17 PM GMT
yes but I am on at much bigger and he still beat Long Run over the track and is proven at the trip

if he hadn't been injured he could quite easily have reached a higher standard than Long Run has - he has just been denied opportunity to demonstrate how good he really is

find out next Friday
Report duncan idaho March 10, 2012 9:43 PM GMT
resner, D Pipe mentioned in his RPost column today....'the horse jumped well but he stumbled  on landing and they parted company'....this happened Friday (the day before).
Report resner not lesnar March 10, 2012 10:43 PM GMT
Cheers for that Duncan. I still think if he runs in the RSA he wins. He gets 3 miles has jumped brilliantly bar one mistake in his first race over fences, and for me is the best horse in the race. I dare say one or two may be closing in up the hill but I think he'll have put enough daylight between him and the rest by then.
Report judorick March 10, 2012 11:45 PM GMT
my nap lay of the festival in the RSA
Report MissiontoMars March 11, 2012 12:49 AM GMT
price coming back in
Report duncan idaho March 11, 2012 9:53 AM GMT
Good luck, resner...big fan of the horse tho havent backed him for either....what i remember was odd about him in the World Hurdle last year was that he settled like a lamb despite them dawdling...same again this week would help.
Report buddeliea March 11, 2012 10:01 AM GMT
Must admit im warming to Burton Port, think he has to be on my side now, wish i had the price he was before Newbury.
Still current price is a working mans one.
Report Can't Catch Me March 12, 2012 6:52 AM GMT
I just can't see BP reversing form with Long Run. Could well sneak a place though.
Report buddeliea March 12, 2012 6:56 AM GMT
yeh, thats fair mate,i just feel that it would be sensible having him on my side, hes the one horse in the race that i really cant work out what hes capable of.
Report ashleigh March 12, 2012 11:49 AM GMT
confirmed will run rsa chase.
Report undertaker March 12, 2012 11:52 AM GMT
GRANDS CRUS will miss the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday and will tackle the RSA Chase two days earlier instead.

Trainer David Pipe made the decision on Monday after weeks of weighing up his options.

His top-class hurdler, runner-up in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at Cheltenham, is unbeaten in three races over fences this season and has been hot favourite for the RSA  since landing the Feltham Novices' Chase at Kempton in December.

But the grey has created such a big impression as a chaser that he was also given an entry for the Gold Cup and had come under serious consideration for a crack at Long Run and Kauto Star but will now stick to novice company at the festival.
Report differentdrum March 12, 2012 11:58 AM GMT
I have a feeling if the horse had been 100% since his last run then it would have been Gold Cup. My guess it hasn't been - he missed the Argento at the last minute and the excuses seemed a little hollow - and I don't see him winning anything now. Could well be the week's biggest disappointment.
Report marychain1 March 12, 2012 12:09 PM GMT
I've said from day one it would be the RSA. It was just too much of a risk to go to the Gold Cup. If the top two had come a cropper then maybe it would have been too good an opportunity to turn down, but as it is they will go off favourite for the RSAso will rightly go for that.

Wont win though, imo
