Don't even think twice. Go.

You'll be able to see fine in the Best Mate enclosure.

It's a two mile walk from the station.

You'll have a great day.

Tough Call, depends if finances are an issue, if they aren't then definitely come to the track. No you won't see much, but the atmosphere on day one is just awesome! Getting a beer is not all that bad really and big screens to watch, worth getting the earpiece for the commentary though.

Three more days to have a more relaxed time on the couchHappy

You can see fine from there. It's not that bad a view at all and I've been all over the course.

Take a hipflask would be my advice.
Report TheStayer March 5, 2012 9:03 PM GMT
It must have rained when your friends went!
I Go every year, on the Tuesday in the BM enclosure. Get there early, is best advice I can give. Believe you me its not much better in the tatts or club for viewing or getting a beer. Have done them all and BM is best value by far & big screens mean you don't miss much. Besides you go for the atmosphere and a day out, you don't get that sitting at home. ENJOY! Oh and return bus from train station is  £6 if you don't want to walk.
Report chesterboys March 5, 2012 9:09 PM GMT
Go. Best day of the four for me. Never had a problem with seeing the race, some beer queues not too bad, only a minute or two for the toilet. Forget the tele, soak up the atmosphere.

The walk down to the course is a big part of the day for me too. Plenty of decent pubs and racing chat along the way. Go and enjoy.

YOU MAY BE DEAD THIS TIME NEXT YEAR, get youre ass in gear  the atmosphere alone is worth the money and the public transport is a fine way to  get to the course. the  view from that stand is advantageous .

And don't pay £61 on the train. Split the ticket and it will be about half that from Derby.
Report conditor March 5, 2012 9:52 PM GMT
thanx for all your input,

split the ticket ??
Report Loftgroovv March 5, 2012 9:53 PM GMT
Don't go in the Best Mate enclosure unless you've had your jabs. Tatts is best. I've been on Tuesday loads of times, but if I'm being dead honest its not as good as it used to be.

I've taken the day off work to just watch on TV this year.

Ebayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!! Wink
Report SEATHESTARS....NO1 March 5, 2012 10:05 PM GMT
I never seem to have a problem with atmosphere staying at home! All yee got to do is get beers in fridge, choose amongst your like minded friends whose house on which day you use and bobs your uncle! Your own personal toilet (or your friends)

A bookies shop with a great atmosphere for when C4 goes off air is also advantageous which is something else we have here! Wink
Report SEATHESTARS....NO1 March 5, 2012 10:08 PM GMT
Part of that was missing lets start again

Your own personal toilet (or your friends), your own beer bought from supermarket in cans where no tampering could have taken place (watering down), no crowds to worry about. No chance of being a victim of crime! The safety and comfort of your own armchair (although we have a rule ON YOUR FEET, LOSE YOUR SEAT) oddschecker/betfair on home pc and laptop!

For the sake of £2 stay on the Derby to cheltenham train
Report silvercoat March 6, 2012 10:30 AM GMT
You don't need to get off the train. Just stay on it. It's a legitimate purchase, one that I do all of the time.

Ok it's only a coiple of quid cheaper, but it'll go towards the first pint.
Report marychain1 March 6, 2012 10:31 AM GMT
you dont need to change Laugh its just a way of getting cheaper tickets.

Those of us from Crewe know all the tricks. For example, Rotherham away tonight, the journey can be split into three parts, knocking one third off the price of a ticket from Crewe-Rotherham

You are not just going racing . THIS IS A FANTASTIC DAY OUT. Make sure you arrive at Cheltenham station before noon. Have a pint ( or three) before you get on the bus for the course. ENJOY!!!
